On the bark of the plum appeared a resinous rush. The tree is 8 years old.
What are the reasons for this? This is bad?

Smolyanisty influx on the trunk or branches of stone fruits, including plums, occurs when the cambium is damaged (a thin layer of tissue located between the bark and wood) and is called gum. This can occur when the tree is frozen in the winter, when the bark is bruised or other mechanical damage to the trunk or branches, or even when the aphid tree is colonized.
If the damage is small, the tree itself cope with the disease, since resinous secretions prevent the penetration of any infections under the cortex. If the damage is significant, then the treatment methods do not differ from the treatment of cancer diseases. Early in the spring, peel the bark to healthy tissues, disinfect the wound with 1 -2% solution of copper sulfate (10-20 g on 1 L) or 5% ferrous sulfate solution (50 g per 1 L). Then, treat with garden gauze and tie this place with a natural cloth. As a rule, the wound overgrows during the summer.

In autumn 2015 planted the Chinese plum of the varieties Sporozplodnaya and Mara. After planting one-year-old seedlings shortened them by about half, in the summer of 2016 they gave long increments, they pinched them at the end of June, after which long branches again grew. It is embarrassing that these branches are rather thin. How to deal with them in the spring? Strongly shorten, slightly shorten or not touch? And what are the features of pruning a Chinese plum?

Both varieties were obtained with the participation of Chinese plum. With single plantings, they bear fruit poorly, because require the presence of pollinating varieties. When joint plantings are both well pollinated, and, accordingly, should well tie fruit. At a young age they differ in the strong growth of annual shoots. To moderate growth, a moderate shortening of annual increments is required - one third of the length. If you do not shorten the shoots, they become too long (up to 1 m and more). At the same time, the crown with a weak branching of shoots remains rare.

If too much shortening, most of the remaining kidneys awaken. Of these, long, but rather thin shoots grow. The crown quickly forms, but too quickly thickens. So, it is most rational to conduct a moderate pruning of Chinese plum varieties, shortening in the spring annual shoots to a third of the length.

In the spring, my plums often podapapivaet. If water costs a long time, the trees get sick. But I learned to care for plums so that, despite flooding, they get good harvests from them.
First, I strengthen the immunity of trees. For this, I feed them in early spring with a rotten compost, and in the fall with a phosphorus fertilizer (according to the instructions on the package).

Secondly, I conduct preventive maintenance of diseases. Even before the formation of the ovary I process the trees with copper oxychloride at the rate of 10 g for 1 l of water. It is a remedy for rust, which affects the leaves. After harvesting the fruits, sprinkle the crowns with copper sulfate, diluted with water in the same proportion. Always remove from the tree all diseased leaves and fruits. Both I send to the fire.

A few years ago, friends gave us the plum seed of the Chinese Commonwealth. If you find one, I advise you to put it. This is an average tall tree, about 3,5 m. Time has shown. that the plant is very frost-hardy. Blossoms beautifully in late May. You'll look! The variety is very fruitful. Fruits ripen in the middle-end of August. The flesh is yellow and juicy! Plums are not too acidic and moderately sweet, but the bone is shallow. Friends warned us that the longevity of the variety is large - about 30 years, provided timely pruning.
A variety of Chinese plum Commonwealth is included in the State Register in 2002 year in the Volga-Vyatka region. The originator is the Sverdlovsk Horticultural Selection Station. Authors: M.G. Isakova, V.S. Putov, I.A. Puchkin. In the description of the variety, the yield of 20-40 kg from the tree is indicated, the maximum yield is 60 kg.

When relatives come to see me, they are particularly amused by the yellow plum. It would seem. nothing special about it. but for many golden fruits in the gimmick. Of all the varieties of the yellowfruit plum, I chose the White Honey. I remember that the neighbors told me that the trees of this variety are growing too actively and take up a lot of space in the garden. However, I did not give up my choice.
Knowing that the plum is very fond of fertile land, before planting, I fertilized the soil with humus (2: 1). And since 3-th year, every spring began to contribute to the near-bottom circle nitrogen, and in the fall potash fertilizers (according to instructions).
Fruits begin to keep up by the end of July. At this time, they can be shot for jam and compotes. But I leave a couple of lower branches until mid-August. For what? Imagine: a summer day, ripe plums are about to fall to the ground. But here you come and tear off these warm fruits with an unmatched scent! The taste is incredible!

Last year some saboteur attacked my plum. I do not know who this is, but it is very similar to aphid. Because of this, the leaves on the tree were wrapped and inside of them a web with some mosses started. Many fruits wrinkled and turned gray, and those that looked normal were tasted bitter. This year there are no fruits at all, the tree continues to hurt. I fell ill and the apple tree: spring blossomed violently, everything was fine with her. And suddenly the leaves of her, like the plum, curled up. But in this case, it's much worse, starting to wither the branches. She called her neighbor to help. He examined the apple tree, found some worms in the bark of the trunk, and said that it was necessary to cut it. And I do not want to just start fruiting, and even apples are so delicious. And I'm sorry for the sink, too. Dear gardeners, I beg your advice: what hurts my trees, can they be saved?

    Plums: the alternation of generations
Even with proper care, the plum garden requires constant renewal. In root-borne varieties, it is easiest to leave a certain amount of root for replacement. Young (1-2-year-old) processes easily tolerate the spring transplant.
Harder with grafted trees. In this case it is necessary either to acquire seedlings, or to master the details of the vaccination. And taking into account the compatibility of the scion and the stock. Because of genetic diversity, not every variety will take root in the local semi-culture (a hybrid of varietal and wild plums).
It is more reliable to master the way of obtaining cultural root-bearing seedlings from rooted green cuttings. Cuttings cut at the end of June, when the growth of shoots has already ended, but the upper part is not yet lignified. The technology is about the same as when rooted cuttings of roses: in a hotbed, in a sandy substrate, with a preliminary treatment with a growth stimulant.
Usually cuttings give roots by September, but they are not ready to winter in the open ground. Therefore, they are digged with a clod of earth, placed in a container with moss or sawdust and sent to winter in a cellar with a temperature close to zero. In spring, the cuttings are planted in the garden to a permanent place.

Plum: in the autumn we whitewash, we clip it in the spring
Very often on the sink can be observed active gum, which greatly weakens the tree. The cause may be damage to the bark and roots, freezing. To prevent this from happening, all wounds and spills on the tree should be covered with garden varnish, in autumn adult trees whiten (2-2,5 kg freshly lime for 10 L of water, for better adhesion, clay or mullein can be added to the solution). A trim shoots plum only at the end of winter or early spring before the beginning of sap flow.
