Many gardeners use siderats (plants that are sown not for the sake of harvest, but to restore soil fertility). But to get the maximum benefit from this, you need to use the siderats not chaotically, but select according to the type of soil and the task.

    • If the soil is too compacted and depleted, use plants with an advanced root system (rye, oats) and legumes that carry nitrogen-fixing bacteria (peas, sweet clover, alfalfa, vetch) on their roots. The best effect will give cereal bean mixes.
    • If the beds are infected with scab and pathogens of rot, sow oats and evil co-legume mixtures based on it for disinfection. ! Growing a mixture of cruciferous siderats (radish, canola, mustard) with marigolds will give a good result.

    • The infected area can be cleaned with autumn sowing of mustard and oil radish. If there are a lot of pests, then leave the area under the siderates for the whole season and sow lupine, phacelia, sweet clover, wicker-oatmeal mixture with the addition of calendula and marigolds.
Often, siderats themselves grow poorly on unsuitable soils for them. If the area is dry, then it is better to grow drought-resistant siderata: phacelia, rapeseed, rape. On the contrary, on overmoistened soils with close groundwater, use lupine and other leguminous plants.
