It is grown everywhere and everywhere, in every corner of the country: our people love this culture. Even on the smallest vegetable garden there will always be a place for garlic. And everyone wants to grow it big!
DO WE NEED A ROCKAMBLE?
Probably that is why elephant garlic became famous for that, with someone's light hand, they began to call it rokambol - a very beautiful word. But rokambol is actually a garlic onion, and that makes a big difference. It tastes much closer to the onion and grows large only in the south - it is planted there before winter and in the summer they get impressive heads. And in the middle zone and in the north it freezes in winter. Therefore, we have to plant it in the spring, and clean it in August. In this case, you get the head of the most ordinary size. So does it make sense to grow it at all?
If you do not live in the south, it is better to grow onions separately, and to grow ordinary garlic with a real burning taste. After all, our garlic can also grow very large, up to 120-150.
Most people who grow garlic do not know the name of their variety, but nonetheless achieve good results through long-term selection. Larger varietal garlic grows, in which large-fruited genetically is laid. And everything is good, but to get varietal garlic is very difficult. Of course, our scientists are engaged in the selection of garlic, and sometimes it still goes on sale. You can buy a good varietal garlic in online stores or from private traders who are engaged in the cultivation and sale of varietal large-fruited garlic.
I myself recently became interested in these varieties. Why? Well, firstly, I love garlic and eat it every day, secondly, I like it when garlic cloves are large. I'll tell you briefly about some varieties.

Not so long ago, in the Perm State Technical University, large-fruited winter varieties were bred at the Department of Horticulture. Shadeika - onion weight, according to the breeders A.V. Well, well, here somewhere you got the desired grade. Most likely, it will get to you small, possibly degenerate. But do not be disappointed in him at once! Renewing a variety of garlic is not that difficult. This is done with the help of brooches growing on the arrow, or children, which in some varieties grow on the bottom.
Bulbochki plant either in autumn, before winter, or in spring. Of these, the next year we get odnozub-ku, and this is already a healthy seed. In the first year, small heads may grow out of single-teeth, but later they will be bigger and larger and gain the weight that is genetically incorporated in this variety.
In general, in the cultivation of garlic is nothing complicated. The main thing is loose and fertile soil, summer watering and two or three supplements. What categorically it is impossible to do, so it is to make fresh manure!
To make the garlic grow even bigger, I plant it not under a peg, as almost everyone does, but I dig a hole in the soil that size, what size I need garlic. The hole is filled with a loose substrate, which does not clog in winter and is easily moved apart with the growth of the head of garlic. To do this, you can mix the peat that has lain for a year or two in the air with vermiculite, fine sawdust or with crushed dry grass.
