Why does the taste of vegetables get worse in autumn than in summer?
LATE BUT TASTY VEGETABLES ...
Gardeners often ask why in the fall the taste of vegetables becomes an order of magnitude worse than they were in the summer, - cucumbers lose their aroma and elasticity, tomatoes and peppers begin to bitter.
It's simple: with the advent of autumn, the growth conditions change. Plants do not have enough heat and sun, and moisture, on the contrary, a lot.
As a result, less sugars and more bitter poisonous substances accumulate in the fruits - cucurbitacin, which is dangerous for humans only in a large dose, for example, if you eat a bucket of bitter cucumbers or 3 kg of zucchini at a time.
Fortunately, with the deplorable effect of the weather, you can fight and prolong the summer of plants.
That zucchini not acquired горечь, warm them roots.
To do this, at a distance of 15 cm from the main stem, dig a groove with a depth of 7-8 cm and lay semi-rotted manure in it. Sprinkle with earth. Cover the bush with foil.
Greenhouse cucumbers may lack not only heat but also light.
Cut off all the extra leaves and old whips. Tie healthy lashes to a trellis or net. Give up mineral fertilizers that can also cause bitterness. Instead, feed the bushes with a weak solution of mullein (1: 15) or bird droppings (1: 17).
Another way stimulate cucumbers - feed them with bread kvass. Grind 2 loaves of black bread, pour 7 l of heated water and leave it warm for 2 days. Strain, dilute 1: 10 with water, pour 2-3 L under the bush.
In addition to cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, and zucchini respond excellently to such top dressing.

Tomatoes и peppers will rather matureif you increase the temperature in the greenhouse. Dig dark water bottles around the perimeter of the beds.
During the day they will accumulate heat, and at night gradually give it away. Another way to increase the air temperature in the structure is to dig small trenches wide and deep into the aisles on the bayonet of a shovel.
Fill them with manure, sprinkle with excavated soil and spill with hot water. In the process of decaying, manure will generate heat and will serve as a natural battery for plants. It will be useful to rinse the walls of the greenhouse from the outside to increase light transmission.
TIP: If, despite all efforts, the fruits still grow bitter, dilute 2 tbsp. salt in xnumx l of water and soak the vegetables in the solution for xnumx minutes. Bitterness will go away!
