Transplanting (planting) seedlings in open ground
Planting seedlings is one of the most important stages in growing vegetables. We tell you what to look for so that tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers easily transfer the procedure.
Good predecessors: siderates, cabbage, onions, garlic, tomatoes, celery
Neutral: beets, greens
Bad: cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkin, melon, watermelon
Good: cucumbers, zucchini, pumpkin, melon, watermelon, green manure, onions, carrots / / Bad: beans, tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, eggplant
7 days before planting, spill seedlings abundantly and stop watering (instead of them, periodically loosen the soil). A day before planting in the ground, pour plenty of water and feed the plants with complex mineral fertilizer diluted according to the instructions.
WE ARE PREPARING PLACES FOR SEEDS TRANSFUSION
In the open ground. Tear out weeds with roots. Make a digging on a liter jar of ash and a bucket of humus or compost per 1 sq. Form the beds and cover them with a span bond so that the earth does not dry out.
In closed ground. If in the greenhouse it is impossible to completely replace the soil, after cleaning and weeding, pour the beds with boiling water (bucket per 1 sq. M). Cover the ground with a film and leave for a day, then dig on a shovel bayonet and pour boiling water again (it can be replaced with a 2% formalin solution - in this case the beds under the film will need to be left for three days, and re-processing can be omitted) .
After planting for 2-3 days, sprinkle the seedlings with a spanbond so that the plants acclimatize and do not get burns
4-5 hours before planting, plow and level the soil on the beds.
Form and fill the wells with fertilizers (see table).
Set small arches above the beds in the open ground so that you can cover the plants at night in the event of return frosts and shade them with spanbond from direct sunlight in the first days after transplantation.
An hour before planting, water the seedlings plentifully with warm water.
Pour 10 liter of water into each well 1 minutes before transplanting.
GENERAL RULES FOR TRANSMISSION OF SEEDLING IN OPEN SOIL
Plant seedlings in the open ground in the evening or in cloudy weather. Do not do it in the heat!
Gently turn the plants so that the stem is between the fingers, and the earthen ball is on the palm. If the glass does not want to be removed, gently tap on the bottom.
Sprinkle seedlings with soil, squeeze with your hands so that there are no air cushions between the roots and the ground. Pour seedlings with settled water and mulch with humus, peat or straw cutting.
When planting cabbage and cucumbers, deepen the plants by 1 cm. Plant peppers and eggplant to the depth at which they grew in a glass. Tomatoes with a very elongated stem lay sideways in long grooves, leave 4-5 cm of the stem and apex on the surface.
The number of true leaves in seedlings at the time of planting in the ground
- Pumpkin - 3-4
- White cabbage - 6-7
- Beijing, Brussels
- and red cabbage - 5-8
- Leek - 3-4
- Eggplant - 6-7
- Tomatoes and Peppers - 8-9
WHAT TO ADD TO THE HOLE WHEN PLANTING SEEDLING
|Tomatoes||1 tsp each potassium sulfate and urea + 250 g of wood ash||In order not to damage the roots in the future, immediately when planting, install pegs for tying|
|Cucumbers and peppers||1 tsp each potassium sulfate and urea + 100 g of wood ash||Seedlings of peppers and eggplant will transfer the transplant easier if you spill the wells with hot water before planting|
|Eggplant||0 l of wood ash||It is easier to care for cucumbers if you plant seedlings in a checkerboard pattern|
|White cabbage||1 tsp superphosphate or nitrophosphate||If in the first days after planting it is dry, hot or, conversely, cold weather, cover the plants with paper caps|
|Leek||1, 5 tsp superphosphate or nitrophosphate||Planted without preliminary hardening on the street, the leek is sick for a long time and ripens for 1-2 weeks longer than prepared plants|
|Pumpkin, watermelon, melon||1 tsp superphosphate||Plant under the film. Only take cover when the threat of freezing frost has finally passed|
TRANSMISSION OF SEEDLING IN AN OPEN SOIL REVIEWS AND READER TIPS
PEPPERS: TRANSFER TO GREENHOUSE
I plant pepper seedlings in a greenhouse in the second half of May at the age of 60-80 days.
A couple of weeks before planting, I take out boxes of plants in the fresh air (first only in the afternoon, and then leave it at night).
In the greenhouse for each square meter of beds I bring 1 kg of manure and 300 g of chopped straw. In each hole I put 1 tbsp. a mixture of 5 kg of sifted humus, 5 l of water and 15 g of complex mineral fertilizer Vegetable biomaster.
To protect against pests, before planting, I spray the seedlings with Strela's solution (50 g per 10 liters of water), water it abundantly, then carefully remove it from the boxes and plant it in the wells to the same depth as it used to grow.
I distribute tall plants of 4-5 pieces. per 1 sq. m, and undersized - 6-7 pcs.
If the weather is cold, I set small arcs above the planted seedlings and additionally cover with a film or spanbond.
To protect the plants from the invasion of the Colorado potato beetles, I make indentations between the bushes, drip a drop of pharmacy birch tar in each pipette and cover it with earth.

When planting tomatoes at the bottom of deep holes, I put a fresh fish head, pour a handful of ash and a little chopped egg shell, sprinkle a handful of earth. The holes set up in this way have everything that plants need. They quickly take root and grow well.
Be sure to throw a handful of fluff from old pillows into the holes for peppers - this makes the soil more loose and breathable. I noticed that the peppers on the feather bed are faster in growth, bear fruit better and are less likely to get sick.
Alina FROLOVA, Smolensk
A week before planting, I abundantly spray cucumbers with honey water (1 teaspoon of honey in 0 liter of water). Then I repeat the procedure in the morning or in the evening 5-3 days after planting. This helps plants adapt more quickly. It also attracts pollinating insects.
TEMPERATURE OF SOIL IN CONDENSING THE SITTING
- Eggplant - + 18 degrees.
- Pepper - + 15 deg.
- Cucumber - + 16 deg.
- Tomato - + 14 deg.
- Cabbage - +10 deg.
