If you want to plant and grow mulberry (here or mulberry)
Cultivation, reproduction and planting of mulberry
Nobody knows when a man learned to make silk fabric made of silk worm. The leaves of mulberry tree or mulberry serve as food for the silkworm.
People have grown mulberry since they learned how to make silk. Since that time, mulberry has been and is the coveted delicacy for people.
Juicy, sweet, healing berries of mulberry - an excellent delicacy. They are also suitable for processing - aromatic, healing wine, juice, stewed fruit, preserves, mulberry is tasty and healthy when dried and fried. And the crops are plentiful and regular. It is very easy to collect berries that ripen over the course of several weeks from the end of May to July - from time to time brushing the ripened crop onto a tarpaulin, matting or sheeting pre-spread under a tree.
Mulberry (tut) genus - Moms has up to 20 species, most of them are plants of the tropics and subtropics, and only some species can grow in a warm temperate climate. White mulberry easily tolerates frosts up to 30 ° Moms alba. This is a fast-growing tree with a dense spherical crown, in old trees, often spreading. The bark of the trunk is brown, fissured, young branches are gray-green to red-brown. Leaves on one tree of various configurations from solid oval to lobed dissected. In the summer it is dark green, and in the fall it is straw yellow.
Mulberry is durable - lives up to 200-300 and more years.
It tolerates drought and has significant salt tolerance. It is unpretentious to the soil and therefore is often used for forest reclamation purposes - for fixing sandy slopes and ravines. Mulberry is no less valuable for landscaping in urban conditions due to its resistance to air pollution by smog, dust. It tolerates regular haircuts, often acquiring a weeping, spherical or shrubby form. In landscape construction, it is used for alley, single and group plantings, when creating dense hedges.
Berries are white, red and black from 1 to 5 cm in length, resemble large fruits of raspberries or blackberries.
Propagate mulberry both in seeds and in a vegetative manner, i. e. grafting, cuttings, cuttings. I managed to master the reproduction of mulberry. Saplings are sold in spring and autumn. At a young age mulberry easily tolerates a transplant.
In spring, seedlings are planted before buds open or in autumn 1-1,5 months before the onset of persistent cold weather. Before landing in a sunny place, dig holes 50x50x50, fill with fertile soil, humus, rape or compost. Then seedlings are planted, abundantly watered when planting. The trunk circle is thoroughly mulched to prevent the soil from drying out. In the first two years, the crown is formed. In the future, sanitary pruning is performed - dry, broken, branches growing inside the crown are removed.
Over the years, it is possible to apply pruning to a branch with a view to lowering the crown, because in nature, an adult tree reaches a height of 20 m and will be inconvenient for harvesting.
The height is advisable up to 5-6 m. In some years it is possible ”to freeze young branches, but after trimming to living wood, the tree quickly grows and restores its former productivity.
Hurry up to get a silky tree on your site, and it will generously give you both a thick shadow and an exquisite delicacy for many years.
Children and grandchildren will remember you.
Additional interesting information on mulberry:
By the way: the Colorado potato beetle does not like mulberry - for 2 years I have been planting potatoes in early spring under the film for myself to eat young. And once I noticed that it does not have a Colorado potato beetle at all. The neighbors are tormented - they are poisoned by chemistry, they collect larvae, but on my potatoes - no, no! And I am sure that this is from the mulberry leaves.
We have a mulberry with very large leaves growing on the street. Passers-by sometimes freeze in bewilderment: what kind of tree? But when the berries ripen, the kids sit on the branches like starlings. The berries are large, juicy and sweet.
So, in the autumn I collect all the fallen leaves in bags, and in the spring I dig a groove, put leaves in it, add some ash and nitroammophoski and fill it with earth. The leaves rot, give heat and fertilizer, especially since under the film the potatoes ripen early, tasty, large. And most importantly - without colorado.

Good day. Tell me, pozh., After how many years does the mulberry begin to bear fruit? I planted seedlings for about 20 cm. All have well begun.
#
Depends on the seedling - same-sex can only yield on the 5th and 7th. Propagated by the cuttings for the 2-3rd year, you will already eat mulberry berries

In the Iranian folk tale, the leaves of the mulberry returned sight to the blind. In the Caucasus they believe that these berries can prolong life.
That's what an amazing plant will be discussed!
The mulberry belongs to the mulberry family. Lives 200-300 years or more. We cultivate basically two kinds: mulberry white and mulberry black (do not try to grow a red mulberry from America - it has a low winter hardiness). The plant prefers warm, well-warmed and lighted spaces. It grows poorly on lowland wetlands. The mulberry is drought-resistant and fairly winter-hardy. In the harsh winter, annual growth may completely freeze, but the tree is quickly restored. The white mulberry is more enduring: 30-degrees frosts are not terrible for it. I plant (in autumn or spring) two or three plants of different forms or varieties.
Before landing under the digging of the soil, I deposit 6-8 kg on 1 sq.m.
fasting, 60-80 g of superphosphate and 20-30 g of potassium salt. Planting pits 60 × 50 cm in size fall asleep with soil from a humus horizon. After planting, I water the plant well, mulch the soil with peat or humus with a layer of 3-5 cm. With the beginning of fruiting (for the fourth or fifth year), I annually feed the tree with complex mineral fertilizers - 30-50 g per sq.m.
The most effective way to reproduce mulberries is with green cuttings. Rooting with this method is 80-90%. The technology is almost the same as that of honeysuckle, actinidia. There are, however, features. I harvest the cuttings in early June and certainly treat them with a growth stimulator (for better root formation): I keep it upright in the solution for 8-12 hours. The area of the sheet is reduced to 1/4. Treated cuttings are planted in a greenhouse in wooden boxes with a moist substrate (turf land, peat and sand - 2: 1: 1). It is important to maintain high humidity (95-100%) and temperature + 22 ... + 30 degrees. By autumn, seedlings are ready, then I grow them.
Mulberry use:
■ Mulberry berries have a mild laxative and diuretic effect, so they are indispensable for problems with kidneys and the gastrointestinal tract.
■ Useful for increased physical exertion and mental fatigue.
■ Fresh mulberry fruits - an excellent remedy for anemia
(in a season to eat every day on a glass).
■ Mulberry juice has an excellent anti-inflammatory effect.

Winters in our locality (Astrakhan) come with frosts up to 37 °, thaws in January, recurrent frosts at the end of May. But all the mulberries in my mall every summer give a harvest.
Freeze only the tops of unripened annual growth. Harvesting, I notice that all the mulberries retained the features of the mother plants from the city of Astrakhan - large-fruited, the color difference of berries (black, white, pink, purple), two mulberries with large black berries are resistant to shedding.
In addition to Astrakhan, I sowed seeds of mulberry in 2009, sent to me by a gardener from Zaporozhye. These plants also tolerate our winters well, but unlike the Astrakhan-
The plants are less resistant to drought, they need watering.
Propagate mulberry with freshly picked seeds. I knead ripe berries and lay them on the surface of the garden bed, sprinkle them lightly with sand. The surface should always be wet (watering from a watering can with warm water). Shoots appear on the 9-10th day. When two true leaves grow, I transplant the seedlings together with a lump of earth, placing them according to the 30 × 30 cm pattern.
