Phalaenopsis-growing in the room and a few tips for caring
Contents ✓
Orchids in principle and phalaenopsis in particular, can not be called capricious plants, but they still need some care
Such a glorious triumph was not yet seen by the world: in just a few years the phalaenopsis orchid flew up to the first place in the hit parade of the most beloved potted plants. Long blooming, the most fantastic colors and unpretentious care make this exotic plant a welcome guest in every home.
Breeders constantly surprise us with new varieties with original shapes and colors of flowers. Their yellow-lemon, amber-orange or terracotta coloring perfectly complements the classic palette of pink, purple and white shades. In the color palette of Phalaenopsis hybrid there is also a lemon tone, supplemented with a purple-violet color of the openwork pattern. Variety novelties with flowers in speckles or with mysterious dark colors are surprisingly spectacular. In addition to medium-sized orchids on a narrow window sill, or as a decor on a table, miniature varieties look great, which also have a long flowering period and do not need special care.
Keep at home "butterfly orchid" is not difficult. Typical of our living room temperature around 20 ° C fully meets the requirements of this tropical guest. Pots with orchids are placed in a well-lit place, but not under direct sunlight.
With the right watering regime, phalaenopsis will remain healthy for many years. The following method has proven itself well: thoroughly moistening the plant substrate with water at room temperature once a week. This can be done by immersing the plant pot in a container of water. Orchids have very sensitive roots that rot easily, so excess water must be drained off before placing the plant back on the tray. Fertilizer for "butterflies" is added to the water every second or third wetting of the substrate. In dry indoor air, it is good to arrange a morning shower for orchids from a sprayer.
A bouquet of phalaenopsis can last about a week
There are several simple techniques that will help preserve the beauty of flowers especially long. To do this, refresh the slices with a sharp knife. Then fill the vase with lukewarm water and add a nutrient solution. Vase with orchids should be placed in a place protected from direct sunlight and drafts. Make sure that the flow of warm air from the batteries is not directed at the bouquet.
Regular flowering
After phalaenopsis has faded, do not cut its flower stalks under the root. They need only be shortened approximately over the second or third sleeping bud, which look like a thickening. Often new flowers develop from these kidneys. Until the moment when the kidneys open and the orchid bloom again, it takes about three months. If the flower stem completely browns and withers, it must be removed.
The substrate for orchids must be hygroscopic and breathable. Its most popular components are pieces of bark, sphagnum moss, charcoal and expanded clay. Moss, laid out on the surface of the substrate, looks very decorative and slows down its drying.
Flower pots for phalaenopsis orchids
The right choice of pots is very important for orchids. Remember that the phalaenopsis orchid has green photo-synthesizing roots, so the ideal option for it is a transparent pot (plastic or glass). In this pot, the roots and the substrate are clearly visible, which allows you to visually monitor the condition of not only the "tops" but also the roots.
Phalaenopsis Orchid: 5 Care Rules
Orchid (Phalaenopsis) - one of the most beautiful flowers of the whole vegetable kingdom. Care for her is able even novice growers, though, with the observance of 5 basic rules.
Purchase
Pay attention to the roots: they must be green or silver, the dried parts can be cut to healthy tissue (in no case do not break them!). The leaves are green, dense, without spots. The plant should not stagger in the pot.
Watering
Light-silver coloring of the roots of the orchid signals that the flower "asks" to drink, Water for irrigation must be defended for at least two days, its temperature should be at 2-3 degree higher than the surrounding one. Do not excessively wet the substrate.
Terms
It is better to keep the orchid on the eastern or western windowsill (protect it from direct sunlight), it is also possible in the back of the room. The optimum temperature in summer is + 20 ... + 25, in winter - + 16 ... + 18 degrees. To stimulate flowering, it is important that the orchid experiences a temperature difference of 3-5 degrees, between day and night.
Additional fertilizing
Phalaenopsis is fed throughout the year (a special fertilizer for orchids strictly according to instructions). During the flowering period, the plant needs more phosphorus (1 times in 2 weeks at the rate of 0,5 g for 1 L of water).
Transfer
You can not transplant a plant (no matter how close it might be) during the flowering period or the active growth of a new peduncle! If the orchid has discarded all its flowers, do not rush to conclude that it has faded (never cut the flower stem!). If the tip of the peduncle is green, it can move to growth at any time, and if it begins to turn yellow, trim it neatly (leave about 1 cm to the green peduncle). If the orchid began actively to grow new leaves and roots, if necessary (with a tight pot), you can transfer it to a transparent plastic pot in a new substrate (special "For Orchids"). Usually it is done in the spring - 1 times in 3-4 year.

Phalaenopsis Orchid For Beginners
Orchid is the most refined and desired flower for any home.
Among all the plants of this species, phalaenopsis is most common, as it is well adapted for living at home. In nature, it grows on the bark of trees, a special substrate for this plant is made of such material.
The substrate for the orchid can be prepared independently.
To do this, you need to collect a pine bark, dry it well, grind it to get grain size 5-6 mm, and boil 20 minutes in water. Then you need to add about 10% of the chopped charcoal-and the substrate is ready.
Gamma flowers
Phalaenopsis is characterized by a variety of flowers: violet, white, pink, red, green and even brown. The most interesting is that with proper care, you can achieve three-flowering blossoms per year, since this orchid does not have a pronounced rest period.
Growing conditions
Since the orchid comes from moist forests, it is necessary to try to create similar conditions for it. Its roots should be in the light and in the air, since they are green, and photosynthetic processes actively go on in them, as well as in leaves.
To place this exotic flower is necessary on the windows of the western, eastern or north-eastern orientation. It is advisable to rotate the orchid in different directions, so that it does not tilt one side, and during the bud formation it is better not to touch the plant. The flowering period occurs at a temperature of 18-25 degrees. It is desirable that at night the temperature is a couple of degrees lower.
The humidity of the air must be high throughout the year, regularly the room should be ventilated. If the humidity in the pot is low, then the leaves become sluggish, as they lose the turgor, and the flowers fall off. If the moisture is too much, the roots begin to rot, and the leaves appear stained. A shower for a plant is unacceptable, it is better to simply wipe the leaves with a damp sponge. The fact is that when sprayed, water can flow into the axils of the leaves, which can lead to decay.
Top dressing and watering
For fertilizing apply special fertilizers for orchids. You can feed every week, but the rate of fertilizer is reduced by half from the recommended. Top dressing must be done after watering the orchids, so as not to burn the roots.
Phalaenopsis is watered only after the bark has completely dried in the pot, but the soil should not be in such a dry state for a long time. Usually there should be no moisture on the walls of the pot - this is a signal for watering. This is clearly visible if you grow an orchid in a special transparent vessel for orchids. For watering, it is best to use clean, warm water.
Transfer
Approximately through 2-3 year it is necessary to do a transplant. It is best to conduct this procedure after flowering. If the orchid grows in the bark of a large fraction, then it can be transplanted by transshipment method, adding a small fraction of the cortex to the empty space. If the fraction is small, then you can gently clean the roots, prune non-viable and transplant into a new bark, adding moss sphagnum.
After flowering, there is always an arrow. Do not rush it off. If it is green, it may have a secondary bloom, if the needle turns yellow and starts to dry, you can safely remove it.
At home phalaenopsis practically does not reproduce. In nature it multiplies by seeds and outgrowths. At home, the shoots may appear, but it only signals that the care for the orchid is not done correctly.

The leaves of some phalaenopsis are strongly inclined in one direction, almost at 90 degrees.
Is it possible to correct the shape of plants and how?
#
Among beginning orchid lovers, there is an opinion that phalaenopsis can not change orientation in relation to light, and it will not bloom. This is not true. I regularly turn my phalaenopsises, so that the rosette of the leaves develops evenly, a little flattened. Otherwise, with large leaves, the pot with the plant will fall to the side. The only thing, during the formation of the peduncle, it is best not to disturb the orchids.
Slightly bent rosettes also align with the transplant. I center and fall asleep with bark, for reliability, I fix with stick sticks until the plant is rooted and will not hold itself. And if phalaenopsis is not young and the shoot is hard, then it is not even aligned with turns or transplantation, it is better to rejuvenate the orchid.
