A neighbor boasts that the onion set left after planting in winter can easily be stored ... underground. Pours it into a three-liter jar or a plastic container with a volume of about Zli, buries it in the soil to the depth of two shovel bayonets. I also want to test the technique, but I doubt it. Is it worth it?

The best conditions for storing onion sets are a temperature of about 0 degrees, and an air humidity of 60%. If you bury the onion to a depth of 50-60 cm, and even in an airtight container, then it will fall into these conditions. But in early spring, when the soil begins to thaw from the lower layers, the temperature will rise, the onions can begin to breathe intensively and release moisture. If the container is sealed, moisture from the respiration of the bulbs will accumulate, and this can cause massive rotting and germination of plants. Therefore, it will be necessary to remove the onion from the ground in time and store it at room conditions until planting. At home, it must be dried and folded into a cloth bag so that moisture does not accumulate. The main thing is that before planting, the onion does not get into a room with a temperature within + 5 ... + 15 degrees, otherwise it will go into the arrow.

How to preserve the remnants of onion sets that were planted before winter? Can you plant it in the spring?

      - You can store the remnants of onion sets in a pantry or other well-ventilated place at temperatures from +18 to +22 degrees, and humidity 50-70%. If the humidity is higher, the seedlings may start to grow, lower - they dry. The thickness of the seed layer in a container or storage jar should not exceed 20 cm. It will be possible to sow it in the spring, when the soil warms up to about +12 degrees.

Dad bought 2 kg sets at a markdown. Put in storage in the house, like an ordinary onion. But during the last revision, she noticed that the sevka began to dry out, germinate, and in some places even rot.
How to save leftovers until spring?

      - In the fall of the sevs I buy only for planting in the winter. But a couple of times there was surplus. In this case, I scattered bulbs on a newspaper and dried it for a couple of days under a battery in the kitchen. Then she put everything in a fabric bag (sewn from old pillowcases), tied it up and hung it on a wall hook on a glazed balcony. She noticed that a warm storage is categorically not suitable. But at an air temperature of up to + 4 degrees, it is perfectly stored for 3-4 months. The main thing is that the temperature does not change much, because if the onion is warm, then in the cold, in the summer the whole will go to the arrow.

Last year, sevok bought in February, put in shoe bags. I threw a packet of hydrogel in each bag (from the shoe box) into each and left it in the refrigerator for vegetables in the refrigerator until spring. Sevok is perfectly preserved, amicably ascended and did not give any arrows!

Hello! I really want to talk about how we grow onions in our winter. We have wide window sills - specially designed for seedlings. So, while it’s not yet reached the seedlings (the deadlines have not arrived yet), we plant onions there.

But not just in pots, but economically - in cardboard egg stands. Our family is big - as many as 7 people!
The eggs are always liked for breakfast. So we buy eggs not in boxes, but in whole trays. These are the trays and go into action. In each cell I fill in a tablespoon of garden soil (always in the garage, just in case).

    And I plant a bulb.

I water a little. Then all this good is on the trays - and on the windowsill. So the onion grows there and the feather gives. And we are no longer just eating scrambled eggs, but scrambled eggs with a fresh onion. Eating!

The first seeds, which the summer residents should take care of, are not tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, but onion-sowok. My friend works in a seed shop and says that the onion is stored in large bags and containers and is not ventilated. Sacks stand on the cold floor. Is it possible in this case to expect a good harvest?
When storing onions, we usually get it to be in a dry place, and at the same time it is also regularly sorted out. So we reject the sick, do not let other bulbs become infected. In shops, the seed onion is clearly not ventilated, and the longer it is stored in this form, the more moisture it has, and therefore the risks to buy an infected seedling. Therefore, for seeding, I began to buy onions before other seeds. When he is before my eyes, more confidence in the quality and in the future harvest.

    If the sowing passes
Earlier I happened that the onion-seedling had already germinated in January-February. Now I know that this does not happen, you need to monitor the humidity: you can not allow it to rise and especially so that water gets to the seva (I store it on the veranda in a cardboard box). The simplest indicator that the optimum humidity is a rustling of bulbs, if you start a hand in the box. Also affects the temperature of the air - the sieve is desirable to store at a temperature of no higher than + 5 degrees.
If the seedling nevertheless began to germinate, it can no longer be stopped, and it is unlikely that the bulbs will be preserved.
Therefore, it is better to put them on the pen of a green feather. I plant the onions fairly tightly in a plastic box from under the cake with garden soil, periodically watering, not allowing the stagnation of water, put on the windowsill.
TIP: If you planted sowing for winter ahead of schedule, or if the winter has turned warm and the onion has sprouted so that it does not become extinct and does not disappear in a snowless winter, cover up the leaf with fallen leaves or straw.

Onion sowing is difficult to save: it starts or rot, or sprout. To prevent this from happening, I will share it in my tried and tested way.
Vegetables dry well, mix with sawdust (it is better to take from fruit trees) and add them to a dry glass jar, in which before that, a little salt was poured onto the bottom. She also sprinkles onions and on top before closing the jar with a lid. Salt perfectly absorbs the condensate and does not give the onion to bend. I keep the bank in a dark cellar. In the spring I take it out to fresh air and for the reliability of onions I select it, although it is kept perfectly. Everything, the ray is ready for planting!

For long-term storage of vegetables, the preparation “Antiburn” is excellent. One bottle with a spray is enough for you to process 300-400 kilograms of grown produce. A biological product can increase the shelf life of products in cellars, cellars and even refrigerators, at least twice. A biological product is not only safe, but even beneficial to humans. So, the healthy “Anti-Rot” products can be immediately used as food. The new drug can be used without any restrictions for the processing of refrigerators, cellars, storage. A powerful tool will quickly destroy all traces of rot. The use of a new generation of biofungicide is very simple. A few taps on the sprayer button and your vegetables and fruits are ready for storage. For prevention purposes, it is useful to spray Anti-Rot with the internal surfaces of storages and cellars. The drug consumption is only 0,3 l for processing 30 m2 of area. Products can be eaten on the day of processing.

Before winter, I plant a shallow seed (up to 1 cm). He does not shoot and tolerates frosts well. And a little later, in autumn, on the perimeter of the greenhouse I plant onions already larger, on the greens. I plant the rest of the onions in the spring, but before planting I dip the bottom of the onion in a mash - divorced slaked lime to the thickness of sour cream, and immediately into the ground. It helps a lot with onion flies.
Last year, I had to plant the entire onion in the spring, since the whole of the sodden planted in the winter and rotted. My experimental potato, planted under winter, also disappeared. Even the bushes of newly planted raspberries rotted roots. Flood was unprecedented, the water almost reached the houses, which
has never happened before. One garlic only survived in water. He is well done - he knows that you can’t let your grandmother down. Garlic is my pride! Grows large, well stored. My daughter-in-law and nieces love my garlic, they say that it is the most juicy, and they take it for food in Kazan and Moscow. I grow it from two to six teeth.

I want to tell you how I prepare the onion for planting to ensure a good harvest of this crop.
First of all, I conduct presowing vernalization. This accelerates the bulb onion for 3-5 days, and ultimately the crop matures half a month earlier than usual. To do this, lay out the sow with a single layer in the boxes and exhibit for three weeks in the sun.
After that, I carefully select the planting material. The task is to discard sick, ugly and sprouted onions. With the rest I take off the easily separated husk. Then I cut off the entire upper neck with a knife - so the feather will grow faster. Donets with rudiments of roots do not touch.
After that, I soak the onions in a saturated salt solution (1 kg per half a bucket of water). In this solution, the sevka “bathes” for two hours, after which it must be thoroughly washed in several changes of water. The meaning of this procedure is in the neutralization of onion fly eggs and spores of fungal diseases.
Without wiping and not drying, I place wet onions in a plastic bag, I tie it and leave it for the night. This is quite enough for the appearance on the bottoms of small roots. This means that the sowing is fully prepared for planting.

This ancient method is recommended for use by elderly people who have lived all their life on earth.
I got it from a woman who, in turn, recognized him from her grandmother. So this method, you can say, is really tested by the experience of several generations. Personally, I like it very much for its effectiveness, because keeping houses for long winter seok, especially small, is quite difficult.
So, we need to select a small sekok (a diameter of less than 3 cm), remove diseased bulbs, carefully dry. Before the onset of a persistent cold at the highest point of your site, you must prepare a hole of depth 30, see Bow-
of the sowing fill in a box, lined inside with dry hay or straw, a layer of about 15 cm and cover the bulbs on top with hay or straw.
Then it is necessary to cover the box with a plastic film, cover up the ground taken out of the pit, trample and cover with leaves and substandard cabbage leaves.
Now you can safely leave the "trunk" to winter to dig in the spring. Onions are progammered prophylactically from powdery mildew: one week at 30 ° and another day at 40 ° (before planting it is good to keep on the stove, only so, of course, so that it does not bake).
Then the onion grows healthy and does not shoot.
And also bulbs the size of a cranberry are simply planted immediately on the beds as a winter onion. Deepen them into the soil a little more than in the spring, so that the bulbs do not get out of the ground and do not freeze. It is good, if there is a possibility to cover the planting with spruce paws. In spring, the onion will quickly grow. True, it will not grow very large, but it will be better kept.
