How to make a shelf and boxes for growing greenery
In this shelf it is easy to grow any greenery that you need in the kitchen. In pre-prepared holes it will be easy to place three pots, which can later be removed, for example, for transplanting plants. In the shelves-boxes you can store from below any tool necessary for caring for indoor plants.
As you can see, there are no special constants here - if you do not need greenery, you can safely adapt this shelf for growing any indoor flowers - for this all will be at hand.
Shelves for flowers and greens with her own hands: the course of work.
A board length of about 800 mm and a width of 125 mm is to be slid to make the side and back walls of drawers to a thickness of 28 mm and spread the resulting blank along two halves. Then cut them in a thickness so that they are made into blanks with a thickness of 16 mm and 9 mm. Workpiece thickness 16 mm, slip to a thickness of 12 mm (for side and rear walls), and from the workpiece thickness of 9 mm, glue the bottom of the drawers. Allow the glue to dry, and then slip the blanks for the bottoms to a thickness of 6 mm. From the remaining parts, glue the wide blanks. From them, make a lid, side walls, bottom and associated parts.
Then cut out the bottom and middle shelf. Then, in the side walls, bottom and cover, prepare a 6 × 6 mm groove. The back side of the shelf is perfectly visible in the window from the street, so try to make the back panel as neat and solid wood as possible.
The partitions of the drawers are installed in grooves with a depth of 6 mm and a width of 12 mm selected in the bottom and middle shelf. To the side walls, the middle shelf and the bottom are attached to the dowels, so they also need to select the grooves.
For pots in the lid, it is necessary to cut out three holes. Open the holes with the allowance, with the calculation of the drying of the lid, but so that they completely hide under the protrusions of the pots.
Profiling of the ribs of the back panel and the lid is conveniently done with a milling machine with a shaped cutter.
From the same board, cut out the front walls of drawers, three rear panels and three panels of thickness 16 mm so that the pattern of the wood fibers is transverse. At the ends of the front walls of the boxes, grind a quarter for side walls of thickness 12 mm. Then on all walls of the boxes select a groove with a width of 6 mm for the bottom. The side walls of the box extend beyond the rear wall by 16 mm, so that they do not fall out of the shelf in the fully extended position. Insert the upper partitions, panels and collect all in one block. Adjust the position of the panels in the upper openings of the case. These panels are fixed with magnetic clamps, which provides access to the inner parts of the body and, accordingly, to pallets under the pots.
Scrub all parts with sandpaper, starting with coarser grit 120 and ending with finer grit 180. For finishing, mix equal parts of oil-based varnish, linseed oil and mineral alcohol and apply the mixture in three layers with intermediate drying. Then attach the pens and ... time to go for the seeds!
GROWING GREEN IN ROOM CONDITIONS
Greens are easy to grow on a windowsill: it does not take up much space and will feel good in clay, wooden or plastic pots. For most green plants, a soil mixture with water-retaining additives is ideal.

This allows you to use pots without drainage holes in the bottom and less often to water the plants.
Pots with drainage holes are even easier to maintain, but when watering they must be removed from the shelf and wait for the excess water to merge before putting it back.
To ensure that the remaining water in the pots has not spoiled the shelf and window sill, trays or pallets must be inserted in the upper compartment of the shelf.
The optimum temperature for growing greens is 16-20 degrees.
Basil, watercress, chives and cilantro are the perfect breeding kit for small areas. The same applies to dill, parsley and marjoram.
From aromatic plants, you can also choose thyme, oregano and mint, as these are fairly compact plants that do not require special care.
When harvesting greens, the basic rule is to cut no more than one third of the stem. The exception is cilantro - after cutting, it does not grow back again. In order to preserve the taste and aroma of greens to the fullest extent, in dried form it must be stored in airtight containers away from sources of both light and heat.
On photo:
- A removable back panel allows you to care for plants.
- Labels on drawers help not to confuse the contents stored in them - order is everywhere order.
- The shelf dimensions are determined by the size of the standard pots 100-115 mm.

Hello, gardeners and truck farmers! I want to offer you in winter time to grow greens on the window.
Seiy salad, dill, parsley, chives, not in autumn, but in the middle of summer. I sow in the garden, and after the first frost I transplanted into the pots and on the terrace - to severe frosts. Then I put it into the house on a light window.
Salad sow varieties of Greenhouse, dill Boreas, parsley Curly and to them in a separate pot sow (it is sowing) spinach Ararat. In the box at the end of August, I sow the radish Early and with the first frosts I put on the terrace.
In the greenhouse there are petunias on the seeds and there is no place for greenery.
Now on the window grow cucumbers Berendey and the Mountaineer. The bushes are small, but by the beginning of November I have already harvested. Cucumbers sow in early September in light, warm soil, cover with a film - and on the window. I sow two in a hole. After the appearance of two real leaves, I leave one cucumber.
In the beginning of August I sow a tomato of long nokistevoy, the variety is unknown to me. Height of the plant - 30 cm, brush - up to 20 cm, in the brush 12-14 fruit orange color, the fruit weight - 30 g. The first brush is laid over the fifth sheet. In room conditions tomato gives 4 brushes. And in the open ground to 7 brushes. Fruiting begins with 8-14 October and until the middle, and even until the end of November. Fruits are stored up to 3 weeks.
I harvest the last fruits green, so that for the new year they have their tomatoes, in which there are no pesticides.
I feed my plants 6 times before the New Year. And after the holidays I start the crop anew.
Experiment!
