Swing bench for self-catering: instructions, photos and drawings
How to make a garden swing at the cottage
Country or otherwise garden swing, an indispensable attribute of the improvement of the country. If they are on the site, then the dacha is used not only for planting and growing plants, but also for recreation. And besides everything else, it's just beautiful.
In preparation for making the swing the following decisions were made:
- swings will be made of coniferous wood (I have larch) with a corresponding change in the thickness of the parts to ensure the necessary strength of the product;
- hang Swing will be in the garden on a special portable steel support;
- A swing must withstand a weight of not less than three people, i.е. minimum 300 kg;
- for the winter the design remains in the garden without dismantling;
- instead of pillows on the swing, an imported car seat, consisting of separate parts, with a velor covering and a reclining armrest, bought on occasion for nothing, will be used, but the swings should be comfortable and without the use of pillows;
- For the lattice design of the backrest, ready-made parts will be used, namely - piece parquet slats.
Dimensions and number of blanks for assembly of the swing are shown in the table below.
Assembling the swing seat
We make the rectangular front 1 and the back 2 jumpers, and also cut out five identical 3 seat supports with a simple curvilinear contour (Figure 1).
The ends of the 3 seat supports, which after assembly will not be available for painting, it is desirable to prime and paint in advance. Jumpers and supports are assembled on 15 screws 70 mm long, pre-drilled holes in the jumpers (Fig. 2). The 15 screw heads should be pre-ground.
The left and right supports are attached at a distance of 50 mm from the edges of the jumpers (Figure 3).
At the assembled frame of the seat we check the rectangularity by measuring its diagonals. We impregnate the structure with a water-repellent primer on wood, and then paint it in two layers with paint for external works.
We drill in the details 1 and 2 four holes with a diameter of 13 mm under the pins of the eye-bolts of the suspension system.
The 4 seat straps can be attached to the frame at this stage, but I advise you not to hurry up and do not heavier the design.
Assembling the backrest
We collect the backrest frame on countersunk spikes. To do this, on the lower jumper of the backrest b and the upper jumper 7 we cut spikes on both sides with a height of 70 mm and a length of 40 mm, and in the racks of the backrest 5 we select the corresponding grooves. Putting the dry frame. The clearance of the frame should have dimensions 1320 × 450 mm (Fig. 4). After checking all the perpendiculars, glue the parts 6 and 7 with the right pillar 5.
Using a carpenter's chair, cut 32 spacers (item 8).
Grid the backrest begin to type on the right side. At the first bar 9 we remove the planer protruding along the long side and attach it with long thin screws to the right 5 rack, having previously smeared the contacting edges with glue. Next, we paste two 8 spacer inserts from above and below, joining them with the 9 slats by the parquet groove / groove method. The installation of all 8 and 9 parts is carried out on the glue flush with the front side of the frame.
If you paint all the details before the assembly, then in the future, get rid of the big problems with the grille back.
Having typed the grate completely, we grease the left thorns of the jumpers 6 and 7 with glue and finally fasten the left 5 rack with the bottom and top bridges.
After the assembly dries completely, cut the upper edge of the backrest along a smooth curve, as shown in Fig. 4. We paint the backrest in the same way as the base of the seat.

Connecting the back of the swing with the seat
The backrest and seat frame are connected with each other by 100 16-5 long screws (Figure XNUMX). Here you can not do without an assistant and power tools. Under the screws you must first drill holes and countersunk them. Screws screwed with a screwdriver. The screws themselves should be dipped in grease or soap. After installing the armrests, the rigidity of the structure will be ensured.
Installation of seat strips and armrests
We produce eight 4 seat strips, two armrests 11 (figure 6), two 10 racks and two 12 supports. The 4 seat strips need to be chamfered on the upper faces and treated with sandpaper.
Attach the 3 straps to the 4 seat supports, distributing them with equal gaps. Then fix the armrests of the 10 armrests, and to them and to the 5 backrests, attach the armrests of 11 at a slight angle (Fig. 7).
Support armrests 12 fasten the screws from the bottom to the armrests of 11, and then - to the racks 5 and 10. We paint the installed parts.
We screw up to the stop four 25 rim screws in the places indicated in Fig. 7. Pre-drill for them holes 03,5-4,0 mm for the entire length of the screws (otherwise the parts in which they are screwed, cracked).

Suspension frame for swing
The side racks of A-frames are made from a steel corner with a shelf 63 mm (item 27), and the crossbar 29 - from a thick-walled steel pipe 060 mm (Figure 8). To the pipe we weld on both sides flanges 22 0160 mm with holes 013 mm. At the bottom of the frames of the 27 rack are fastened with 28 couplers from the corner with a shelf of 25 mm.
All parts of the structure are cleaned with a metal brush and painted in two layers with a special paint, which can be applied directly on the rust.
In the crossbar 29 is symmetrical about the middle of the pipe and strictly vertically drill two through holes 013 mm at a distance of 1570 mm from each other. Cut from the meter billet two pins length of approximately 160 mm (specify in place) and securely fasten on the crossbar rim-nut rings down.
Choosing a place in the garden, we establish a frame-rack. We check the horizontalness of the crossbar and the verticality of the A-frames. If the design is installed on the ground, then you should dig a little the ends of the 27 racks. If on a solid platform, for example, concrete, you should think about connecting the left and right frames with horizontal ties at the floor level. You can also attach the lower ends of 27 racks to the site using steel mounting angles.
Suspension of a swing with your own hands
In the holes 013 mm along the edges of the jumpers 1 and 2, insert the locally selected lengths of studs and fasten the 17 eyebolts to them as shown in Fig. 8, just ringlets up.
The chain 24 is cut into four parts along 1,5 m. We attach two chain segments to the eye-nuts installed on the 29 crossbar, using the 26 rigging sticks (photo1).
We set the swing under the crossbar at the correct height for temporary supports, cut the chain sections through the lugs of the 25 rim screws (photo 2) and fasten it with a small chain tightness to the eye-nuts on the 1 and 2 jumpers with 26 staples (photo 3). After removing the supports, finally adjust the height of the suspension and the angle of the swing seat (photo 4).
The last step is to install the car seat.
In the future, it is recommended to build a canopy over the swings to protect against rain in the summer. It can be a wooden or steel frame, covered with any roofing material (it is best to apply light polycarbonate for greenhouses or ondulin).
