The first step towards organic farming
The Fokine cutter became my first "step" on the road to organic farming. It turned out that this seemingly simple tool can perform all operations in the garden: loosen the soil, hill, make holes, grooves, crop weeds.
But some of my friends, who also enthusiastically took up the plane cutter, after a while cooled to him. Why? Everything is very simple: the blade became dull, and it became harder to work, and the effect was not achieved the same as before. And all you need is to periodically sharpen this tool.
The most worn out is always the "nose" of the plane. It and sharpen first. That's what the inventor V. V. Fokin wrote about this: "Where to sharpen a plane cutter, the appearance of the blade will tell. The tip of the tool is mostly worn out, especially if the soil is heavy, stony. The bar must be driven along the bevels. "
And they are clearly visible. The main thing is that the angle of factory grinding remains unchanged.
To ensure that the rows are neat and do not grow weeds, I advise you to follow my experience. I take old carpets, cut them into strips of the right width and spread them between beds. On such paths it is pleasant to walk, and the view of the garden becomes more attractive.

I do not part with the flat cutter from 1999 year, when the first copies went on sale. At that time, the brochure V.V. Fokine.
After reading it, I experienced a shock. I've never met anything like this! I became so offended by our agricultural science, which, apparently, still propagates deep plowing with the turnover of the layer. I'm still jarred when I read the words "dig deep".
Thanks to a flat-topper, I, in my old age, easily work on the ground: do not bend my back, as before. But working with him, if you are a beginner, is not as easy as it seems. At the clogged state of the bed, I first cut off the weeds with a small grip on the ground with a rounded blade. I add the cut vegetation to the garden. After 7-10 days, the roots in the ground are weakened, and, having removed the cut weeds, it is possible to loosen the earth with a flat cutter.
An important point when cutting weeds is the roundness of the chopper blade. Choppers with sharp corners are suitable only for light, loose soils, they are difficult to pierce into heavy soil. And the rounded part enters the ground smoothly, without much resistance.
