Vertical landscaping of the site - terrace, fences, flower boxes and supports
With the help of such simple technique as vertical gardening, you can decorate the garden in the most bizarre way.
Various pergolas and arches will serve as functional partitions in the garden, as well as a kind of screen covering your site from neighbors.
In addition, with the help of various constructions for vertical gardening, it is always possible to disguise not the most beautiful corners of your site, for example an old barn, or the wall of a garden house that has not yet been "finished" (for details read in the article Landscaping of buildings).
Having resorted to vertical gardening it is possible to create a shady rest corner where it will be especially cozy to settle with your favorite book in hot hours.
The plants that can be used for this kind of landscaping are mass. It remains only to give them a reliable basis in the form of supports, pergolas, all kinds of lattices and arches.
We will talk about various methods of vertical gardening in this material.
GREEN TERRACE FOR CREAMING PLANTS WITH YOUR HANDS
The covered terrace is formed by racks 1,3 km from the wall of the house with trellises designed for climbing plants. Racks are cut from boards with a section of 50 × 100 mm.
Due to the inclination of the upper cross bars, the visual ease of construction is achieved.
Of course, it is possible to make the upper part of the structure horizontal, but the oblique looks more elegant. In the terrace space, it is advisable, for example, to arrange narrow shelves for garden accessories or flower pots.
Lattices fixed between racks are purchased ready-made or are made of slats with a section of 40 × 40 mm. All wooden parts should be impregnated with an antiseptic and painted.
If near you plant perennial plants (grapes, hops), regularly make sure that they do not completely cover the gutter.
The design of the terrace consists of five racks (Figure 1). The upper cross members are connected to the posts at an angle that repeats the angle of inclination of the roof of the house. To fix the crossbars there is a horizontal bar on the wall.
At the bottom and in the middle of the height the racks are connected by longitudinal bars, serving also for the installation of grids (Figure 2).

- To transfer the angle of the roof slope to the rack, under the roof parallel to the roof fix the rail. Leaning it against a vertical rack, fix the clamp and mark the angle of the connection, while determining the length of the transverse element of the terrace.
- Uncrossing the struts and cross members, drill the guide holes for the screws. The parts are connected with polyurethane mounting glue and screwed. To protect the mountaineers from above on the posts stick the upper cross bars.
- On this sample, five columns are assembled. In height, all of them need to be adjusted.
- In the lower part of the pillars, cutouts are made for joining the under-tree with the longitudinal bar of the lower strapping.
- The distance between the racks is 5 cm more than the width of the lattice insert.
- To install the lattice inserts to the racks fix horizontal bars. The same distance from the floor is maintained using spacers from the scraps of boards.
- Before fixing the grids, they are aligned in such a way that the distances to the left and right of the posts are the same.
HOW TO MAKE A SUPPORT FOR PLAIN ROSES
Climbing roses are a magnificent decoration of the facades. Support the plants can serve as a lattice frame. However, it should be borne in mind that the distance from it to the wall of the house must be at least 45 cm. Otherwise, a stone wall heated by the sun can damage the flowers and leaves. Vertical arrangement of branches and air gaps, in turn, increase the plant's resistance to various diseases.

Homemade suspended planters
To create a hanging garden, various hanging constructions are required. For example, such a plant pot (Figure 3) can be made from a series of horizontally placed wooden slats that are held in corners on threaded studs. Above and below these connections are fixed with a washer and nut. The chains for hanging are fixed on top. Two boards are used as the bottom of the pots. In this case, it is necessary to ensure the drainage of water, as well as to carefully process the wood.
Homemade boxes for flowers
Decorative designs from the slats can be used as decor for flower boxes or for direct placement inside small containers (Figure 4). The basis can serve, for example, blocks of lightweight concrete or sandstone. Note the mounting features: each vertical rack is inserted between two horizontal bars in the base, and above and below it is connected to the longitudinal parts. Diagonal elements give the structure greater stability. Where the tree is in contact with the stone, it is necessary to lay strips of film or parchment to protect it from moisture.
Flower box
In order for the flower stems to hang freely downwards, the flower box can be placed on a small elevation. The very design of the box (Figure 5) is simple and similar to a hanging flowerpot. Layed in the same horizontal rows, the slats are held in this case by four corner posts.
Wickerwork
As supports for plants and various fences in the garden, wicker structures are often used.
These can be grids, arches, fences, walls.

Deciding to arrange a flower garden on the site, we did not immediately decide on the style. Tried several options. We had a long rectangular flower bed along the entire fence, and small even squares-flower beds. Tried to create a fashionable and now mixborder. All this was not bad, but not so good as to get real pleasure from contemplating the flower garden.
We wanted to combine the originality of the shape of the flower garden and the simplicity in the care of plants. As a result, in the fifth year of searching and thinking, we stopped at a flower garden in a regular style. And they were right: the plot began to acquire its own-face. A regular garden does not tolerate anything superfluous. it can be called noble and even strict, but in this ordering there is a tremendous beauty.
Of the birch round calibrated logs with a diameter of 70 mm (in common parlance - pencils) we built fencing for the flower beds - small structures of the type in the form of squares, rectangles and triangles. Of course, first they were treated with an antiseptic with the addition of the color of the desired color. It turned out even better than we expected!
The flower beds were arranged along the fence, creating an interesting geometric pattern. The paths between them were covered with black covering material
(pre-digging passages) and covered with sawdust. This blocked the road for weeds and saved themselves from constant work on their pulling. To decorate the tracks used stones of different colors and sizes.
Immediately behind the flower garden planted a number of fruit trees: cherries, plums (they are framed square logs in two tiers) - A pear and apple trees are located around the lawn (between them settled hydrangeas).
I must say, the idea of a regular flower garden has justified itself. It looks just great - effectively and accurately. And how easy and pleasant to take care of plants! Now, along with colorful annuals in our flower garden, settled and perennial inhabitants. Our garden has become brighter, more diverse. Now, always, when I go out to the flower garden, my heart knocks a little harder - it rejoices in beauty.

We got a plot open on all sides: the sun, the wind, and outsiders. This created a feeling of discomfort, insecurity. But the fence with 4 sides, too, was not to be fenced off. After all, nature, why put it in a box? We decided to gird a piece of green ribbon - a hedge.
On both sides they decided to make not just a decorative hedge, but also a fruit fence: they planted bushes of grapes. As soon as the bushes grew up, they dug along the edges of a row of pipes and stretched between them several rows of wire. As the grapes grew, they tied the shoots to the wire. Now our grapes have grown already decently, giving fruit.
And while he was short, we hung on the upper wire-flying flower beds. In the first year they dropped the classics - petunias of different colors. Well they were fed and watered, as a result, petunia bush grew very lush, the greens fell to half a meter. The next year we decided to turn our flying garden into a "flying vegetable garden": we planted beans and tomatoes in pendant baskets. Got both benefit and beauty. Especially beautifully blossomed beans - we just fell in love with these red and white flowers.
But we did not refuse petunias in hanging baskets: we decorate the veranda of the house with such air flower beds every year. In addition, the husband specially set up two wooden posts in the courtyard: hang baskets with petunias on the hooks hammered into them.
But our main pride is the facade side. We decided to make it a ceremonial one. They stopped on the evergreen boxwood-
those (axle). Already during the work, they decided that a long, monotonous line would look boring, so they left in the hedges the openings into which the roses had landed. Looks just fabulous!
The back side of the site from the side of the ravine was decided to be closed tightly so that other dogs would not run past. Chose for this purpose prickly bushes - hawthorn and barberry. And they planted a willow between them. As they grew, the branches were intertwined. As a result, we really have an impenetrable fence - not only a dog, but a person - an uninvited guest - will not make it. We realized that the green hedge is the best protection: the fence is always narrow, you can climb through it, and try to break through the tall solid bush!
