Fig in the home - tips for growing

How to grow figs at home
Since my childhood I've been fond of figs, but I never thought that I would ever try its fruits, grown with my own hands on the windowsill.
Last autumn, a friend brought home a small twig to her home from the polyclinic, put it in a glass of water and, as it turned out, she forgot.
Once I came to visit her, and she immediately led me to her window-sill to boast of floral novelties.
She has even more flowers than I have!
Looking at the plants, I saw a glass standing in the corner with a greenish wall. There is almost no water left in it. There were no leaves on the branch, but the kidneys swelled large. The roots were also strong.
“Well, I cut it off from a palm in a clinic. I even took scissors specially with me so as not to spoil the tree, but I forget to plant everything, ”the hostess said somewhat guiltyly.
I felt sorry for the unfortunate palm, and I asked her to give. Girlfriend did not resist for a long time - solemnly handed along with a glass.
I came home and immediately planted a twig in an ordinary flower ground.
ACQUAINTANCE WITH ENGINEER
The results did not have to wait long. Leaflets appeared from the kidneys - hard and elastic. A non-invasive crooked wand turned into a beautiful little tree.
As it turned out later, I saved the figs. Honestly, I've never seen it in any house before.
But he is a close relative of the ficus, which grows in almost every self-respecting grower.
By the way, figs, or, as it is also called, a fig tree, even in indoor conditions can grow into a two-meter tree and bear fruit.
Kinds of figs
When I became interested in my new "guest" in detail, I learned that there are many kinds of figs that excellently feel at home.
Among them: Purple Sukhumi, Oglobsha, Sunny, Kedotta.
I also found out that figs are a thermophilic, but undemanding plant, it adapts well to the dry air of urban apartments.
Figs need a lot of light - its lack can affect fruiting.
Therefore, in the summer he lives in my eastern window, and winters in the south. Fruits are tied almost all year, not counting a short rest period, when the plant briefly drops leaves.

FIRST CROP INJURY
And then the day came when I found in the axils of the leaves of my figs small ovaries, looking like tiny peas. "Gets the buds!" I rejoiced. I began to wait impatiently for them to bloom.
I wondered what color they would be, what they looked like, were they fragrant, like a lemon? To my great surprise, the peas grew to the size of a walnut! And no flowers!
Fruits grew first green, a little later they began to become covered with purple specks, and then they became completely dark plum. As a result, I received a harvest of three real fruits of figs.
Then the plant dropped its leaves and rested for three months. And after that, small fruits appeared again - already eight.
On the joy began to master the reproduction of figs. I do it cuttings, which have 3-4 kidneys. Before rooting, the lower part of the branch is dipped in wood ash and planted in moistened sand or left in a glass of water.
When the stem will take root or build strong roots, I plant it in a permanent pot. Fruits appear in six months.
I recently learned that figs also multiply well by seeds, but in this case it will be necessary to wait almost five years before the plant grows up and can please you with juicy and fragrant fruits.

I would like to share with the readers the successful results of my experiments, who will come in handy?
For a long time I wanted to grow figs in my home, but I was afraid that I would not be able to manage in a garden with a small seedlings. And then she suddenly thought: "Should I try to do this at home?" I bought several fruits in the store, took out the bones from them and sowed them in an ordinary flower pot. Only one rose, but the sprout very quickly began to stretch upwards and gain strength. And by the next summer I already had a small but strong tree. And I put him in joy in an open pound near the house.
And then noticed that it suddenly somehow got bored and drooped. Then I decided to feed it: in a large bucket I poured 10 l water 200 g Yeast and a handful of dry grass and insisted 10 days. And then this solution and watered and sprinkled. And the fig immediately came to life, again went to growth. I looked at him and could not get enough of it.
In autumn, he was again transferred to a pot (but already larger in size) and transferred to the house. In winter, too, fed the same drug (well, of course, only without dry grass), and figs liked it very much. He's already grown stronger. This summer, of course, will again release him to freedom and, apparently, I will not disturb his transplants anymore. If everything goes on okay, a year or two later I can remove the first fruits from it. At least, I really hope so.
And I want to talk about how I finally got rid of the larvae of the May beetle, which had eaten up roots from my strawberry, because of which a good half of the bushes disappeared. What kind of money I did not try, but nothing worked. And one day in the spring, I remembered about wormwood, which, just in case, I had prepared in the fall. Made a steep infusion and poured the entire plantation. And not only wiped out all the pests, but even those bushes came to life, in which the larvae already began to gnaw the roots.

GROWING THE ENGINE IN THE COVERING FORM IN THE OPEN GROUND DEMANDS THE CAREFUL COVERING ON THE WINTER AND PROTECTION FROM THE ROD.
If there is any doubt, it is better to double-check everything and correct the errors. I was convinced of this on my own experience. Last winter I seemed to have done everything right: 1,5-2-meter-tall fig branches were pinned to the ground and covered with spruce branches, old clothes, and on top with slate sheets. The tops of the branches, tied together, were wrapped with polypropylene bags (for construction waste). A poisoned mouse bait was left under the slate. But that was not enough. When I opened fig bushes in early April, I saw that the lower part of the branches, which was not covered with bags, but only with rags, was damaged by mice. From this it was concluded that you need to wrap branches with bags along the entire length and be sure to lay out preparations from rodents under cover. Damaged branches making up the fourth part of the bush) have been removed. I used their surviving tops to propagate the figs with cuttings. By the way, thanks to the powerful (formed over several years) root system of the bush, a record harvest of fig fruits was harvested on the remaining and young (this year) branches. Hence one more conclusion: the bush should not be too thickened.
