Last year, we bought a plot with a garden, where there were many old and overgrown berry bushes. After cutting the old shoots from the currant almost to the ground, the bushes gave new strong shoots. But honeysuckle died after rejuvenation. What is the reason?

Not all techniques are equally good for different cultures. Currant bushes have buds at the base of the branches, which can give powerful replacement shoots. Therefore, the rejuvenation method you applied is suitable for currants. But honeysuckle does not have such buds. After a cardinal pruning, several dormant buds may awaken in the bushes, but only if they are regularly moistened.

To rejuvenate old honeysuckle bushes, pruning is used on a stump at a height of 35-40 cm of soil level for all branches, but not lower. The next year, powerful shoots will grow, which in the second year can give the first harvest. But note that after such pruning, too many shoots may form and in the third year they need to be thinned out. Leave 10 to 15 strong branches, remove the rest.

When my husband and I planted raspberries in the garden, we still did not know that after 5-7 years they need to be transplanted to a new place, otherwise the aging shrubs will lose their previous yield. On our tiny site, this is problematic, but my husband, on the advice of kind people, found a solution.

When they collected all the berries from the old bushes, he completely removed the old rhizomes near the fence, dug up the earth, adding wood ash for decontamination and fertilization, and left the raspberry growth aside from the fence. The next year, we picked berries from young shoots, and the earth rested from under the old bushes. After 2-3 years, he dug up the rhizomes of raspberries in the same way and left shoots located even further from the very first dug bushes. As a result, in 5 years our raspberry tree “stepped over” almost 1 m from its original location, rejuvenating in the process and not losing the previous quality of the berries. This ended the movement of the bushes towards the garden path. Now, in the same way, we will begin to move the raspberry bushes in the opposite direction, growing young shoots towards the fence on the rested ground, digging out old rhizomes. For a small plot, like ours, this method is just a godsend: it saves land, and the raspberry harvest is good.

    How to heal currant bushes

About a dozen black currant bushes of different varieties (Agate, Jubilee, Vernissage, Little Prince, etc.) grow on the cottage site. Every year I get excellent harvests. And to the question of my secret, I answer: that the bush give a generous harvest of berries, it should be healthy.
In February I went around the site, I notice plants that have last year's leaves folded into a tube. It is in these ducts that the caterpillars of the goldfish and the hawthorn winter ...
If you unfold the tube, you might think that the caterpillar is frozen. But only the spring sun will warm, she will immediately come to life and will take up her harmful work. And then we wonder why the kidneys on the branches are swollen, deformed. And as a result - a miserable crop. To improve my bushes, at the end of February I boil water, I pour it into a watering can and spill abundantly bushes (more northern latitudes this work should be shifted to the beginning-middle of March). I pay special attention to those plants on which I found pests of pests. And in March I spray the currant from powdery mildew (a quarter 200-gram piece of laundry soap is diluted in a bucket of water, add: 3 tbsp of soda ash).

To replace the old currant bushes, grow saplings. For breeding, you need to select the right shrubs. They should be of good quality, yielding, without signs of disease and pest damage. Black currant saplings and c. red is grown from cuttings and layers of plants no older than 6 years.
If you want to buy a planting stock, know that the seedlings of the first grade have a root system consisting of five skeletal roots (not less than 20 cm long) with a darkened bark and a well developed lobe. The terrestrial part consists of three or more branches not less than 40 cm long, extending from below the base of the bush. The root system of seedlings of the second grade consists of three skeletal roots up to 15 cm long, the number of main branches decreases to two.

    REFINED RIDER
With her husband they bought a dacha with a neglected orchard, which they decided to keep to the maximum. For cutting trees invited a gardener, but the bushes of gooseberry, a few berries which were on individual twigs, brought to life themselves. About this and want to tell. Earlier in the spring, we simply cut out all the shoots almost at the soil level. This procedure is called rejuvenation. In the same year, new shoots grew. For the third year we already received a new crop from the grown up young shoots. This procedure can be carried out if most of the branches on gooseberries are older than eight years and it is difficult for you to figure out which ones to cut out and which ones to leave.
    ***
Rejuvenation of gooseberries is recommended to be carried out in cases when there is no place for planting new bushes in the garden. After all, new varieties can not be planted in the place where old gooseberry bushes grew. First, the land here is already depleted. Secondly, new plants will attack the same diseases and pests as the old bush.

I want to suggest a simple way to rejuvenate the bush. It begins with the "heart" of a crimson bush
When raspberry bushes grow in one place for a long time (5-6 years), they begin to bear fruit not so abundantly as before. You can, of course, tear, dig, fertilize and plant new young bushes. But it is labor-consuming, costly, and berries will have to wait a couple of years.
    There is another, easier way.
A sharp shovel should carefully dig out the very center of the crimson bush. Then sprinkle a good land with humus, loosen, fertilize and thoroughly water the bush.
After removing the old rhizome on the remaining roots, the sleeping buds will wake up and new strong shoots will quickly begin to grow.
This mini-operation can be carried out repeatedly, as required.

Raspberries will be abundant and long fruit in one place. Have a good harvest!

A radical spring pruning will help rejuvenate the tree. Thinning is needed first: remove diseased branches and growing almost vertically and inward to the crown. Cut off rubbing against each other too. After thinning, we proceed to rejuvenation - on all remaining branches, remove shoots under 5 years old. A year later, the tree is noticeably younger. If the crown is too thick, it must be replaced. They do this not in one go, but in two. In the first year, on the south side, remove part of the skeletal branches that grow incorrectly (inward, too close to each other). Shorten the rest a lot. Three years you need to deal only with this side of the crown and only in the fourth year proceed to the north side. The actions are the same as for the south. But if the tree is too neglected and the crown cannot be replaced, it is better to leave such an apple tree.

To obtain a high yield of quality berries of black currant, timely pruning of bushes is very important.
It is usually done in the early spring before budding. A properly formed shrub should have 10-20 well-developed uneven-aged branches. To do this, in the bush of four years of age, 4-5 strong shoots are annually left, and one-year-olds are cut at the soil level. In the fifth year, the formation of the bush ends and further sanitize: remove branches with a weak growth, obsolete, lying on the ground, while not leaving stumps.
    Council
A good effect is provided by summer prishchipka root shoots and annual growths, which contributes to an increase in yield and improved quality of berries.
On the neglected bushes, where no pruning was done at all, old branches with poor growth, twisted, broken and lying on the ground, are removed. If such trimming does not give a result, then you should rejuvenate the bush. In this case, all branches, except for 2-3 strong shoots, are cut without leaving hemp. After such pruning, a lot of radical shoots grow. Of these, you need to leave 10-12 strong evenly spaced branches, and the others are removed. The first clipping is carried out when the shoots are still young, 15-20 cm in length. With this pruning you can not be late, because this leads to a weakening of the bush and the bending of other branches. As the new shoots grow, the clipping is repeated.
Subsequent pruning for the formation of the bush is carried out in the same way as on young plants. After rejuvenation in the first year of currant requires increased attention to farming. In this regard, it is necessary to introduce organic and mineral fertilizers, watering, to work well the soil around the bush, to destroy the weeds and not to let them regenerate, so as not to weaken the plant.
Permanent care of bushes, watering, fertilizing, prischipki will restore the fruit bearing of the currant for another 5-7 years.

I do not understand: How and how much to cut off the ground part of black currant? And instead of cutting the roots with a bayonet shovel, is not it easier to just make a transplant with a bush separation?
