How to make a simple and effective film greenhouse
The design that Yuri Kulikov came up with from Lyubertsy near Moscow, can be useful to many beginners. The film can is convenient to use, does not take place during storage, and most importantly - it is inexpensive!
One of the main requirements for the creation of film shelters is the absence of sharp corners in the places of contact between the PVC film and the frame. Therefore, as a frame of a greenhouse for covering a garden bed of width 1,8 m and length 4 m (photo 1), I used pieces of plastic pipes of length 2,9 m and 0 1,2-2 cm. The ends of pipes bent into an arc are located at a distance of 1,8 m from each other. For a four-meter-long greenhouse, such arcs will require 5.
In each tube in the middle, in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the bend, I drilled one hole, and to the right and left of each hole at a distance of 100 and 250 mm - four more holes 0 3-3,5 mm so that they could pass a nylon cord 0 2 mm and length 8 m.
Building a frame of a greenhouse
When assembling the frame, the greenhouse found and marked the middle of each cord and, passing them through the holes in the central arc tube to the marks, tied knots, and strictly from the underside of the arc bend. Then did the same operation with the rest of the arcs, sequentially retreating to 1 m to the right and left of each previous arc. For the convenience of this operation, I used a piece of a narrow board of length 1 m, each time inserting it between the arcs to provide the desired distance between them. As a result, we obtained a set of rigid transverse arcs held in the longitudinal direction by flexible screeds at a distance of 1 m from each other (photo 2).

Manufacture of supports
For this, he used long nails and cuttings of boards 100-120 mm in length. Previously, to prevent the boards from breaking when nailing, in the center of the cuts drilled holes about 1 mm in diameter smaller than the diameter of the nails. Nails scored in the boards about two-thirds the length.
Preparing the 10 supports, on the upper ends (with hats) of the nails driven into the supports, put on the ends of the arcs, and the bottom ends of the nails stuck into the ground at a distance of 1 m from each other in two rows at a distance of 1,8 m. Thus, I fixed the frame of the greenhouse on plot of land.
In addition, prepared three bars section 20 x 20 mm and a length of about 1,2 m, pointed at the lower end. Driven into the ground to a depth of 30 cm, the bars serve as supports for the central and two extreme arcs of the greenhouse.
Near the top end of each propeller, two small nails drove towards each other, leaving their caps at an altitude of about 5 mm. To these nails with the help of laces tied the middle of the arcs
Another made two pins length of about 50 cm, which scored as anchors in the ground at an angle of approximately 45 degrees along the central axis of the greenhouse, having retreated from the extreme supports 0,7 m.
Since the supports, supports and pins will constantly contact wet earth, I tried to make them out of a material that is difficult to rot, and the wood was covered with an antiseptic.
He threw a PVC film with the width of 3 m and length of 6,5 m on the frame, clamped its longitudinal edges from both sides of the greenhouse between two rails of length 4 m and section 20 x 20 mm, as shown in photo 3. Assembly of such a hotbed takes about an hour, and dismantling - even less.
To ventilate the hotbed on hot days it is enough to remove the load from the free ends of the film and throw them on top of the hotbed. For access to planted plants in the greenhouse, while I'm at the center of its arc, I take hold of the middle of the bars clamping the edge of the film, pick them up and put them along with the film on top of the greenhouse (photo 3, 4). After finishing work on one side of the garden, I close the greenhouse again and open it in the same way on the other side.
When all agrotechnical work is finished, I load the free ends of the film with heavy objects, making sure that the film is well stretched both in the longitudinal and transverse directions.
The experience of operating this hotbed for 8 years has shown that with careful handling even the thinnest and cheapest PVC film can last 3-4 season. This is due to the fact that the places where the film contacts the skeleton of the greenhouse are smooth and rounded. When storing the film without dismantling the racks, the time of assembly and disassembly of the greenhouse is substantially reduced (photo 5). In disassembled form, the greenhouse is very compact. It can be stored even in an unprotected place, because it is made of non-metallic materials that are not susceptible to corrosion (photo 6).
You can increase the length of the hotbed by installing additional arcs. But in this case it will become more difficult to open a hotbed, and it will be necessary to do it together.

Film greenhouse with their own hands
- This hotbed is an inexpensive, but very effective frost protection for plantings.
- The arches rest on the posts to which they are tied with cords. All the arcs stand on plaques that do not allow them to sink in the loose ground.
- The longitudinal edges of the film are firmly clamped between the wooden slats.
- To open the access to the bed, it is enough to lay neatly on the top of the greenhouse the edge of the film, squeezed by slats.
- In hot weather, the greenhouse can be opened completely.
- In the disassembled form, the greenhouse occupies very little space.
