Small-leaved Peony Flower - Growing
The shoots of a leafy peony shoot out of the still not thawed land rapidly, declaring their right to be the first to start the season. It is their appearance that causes a reverent understanding - indeed, spring has come
For 18 years we are accustomed to a bush of a wild pion with a globular shape with openwork, strongly dissected, almost threadlike leaves. It's as it should be: the bush grows year by year, occupying an ever larger area. It grows in the penumbra, on the southern side of the bough of a fairly old apple tree. I can not say that this neighborhood can be recognized by experts as correct. But in conditions of harsh wintry winters, such a dense planting does not prevent either the pion or the apple tree.
Reddish pink shoots peony thin-leafed (Paeonia tenuifolia) they quickly reach out to the sun, changing their color as they grow.
Admire their decorativeness and the desire to be the first among the blossoming brethren. In the springtime turmoil, you will not even have time to blink with an eye, like the recent wild-legged peonies have already formed a neat little bush, up to 60 cm, of a beautiful, round-spreading form. And emerald leaves fill this form: carved, amazingly delicate, openwork, cut into thin thread-like parts. Everything just wakes up, and the peony thin-leafed already stands in all its glory: a little more, and buds will blossom, decorating brightly emblazoned bush.
In Siberia and the Urals, the awakening of the leafy peony can begin in the second half of April, and flowering in the second half of May, when the bulbous blooms: tulips, daffodils, and muscari have bloomed. At this time, shoots of grassy peonies are only beginning to sprout from the ground.
Why not rush ?! But he also leaves the vegetation first. Seeds begin to ripen in mid-June, depending on weather conditions, and the foliage gradually loses its emerald color, which reduces the decorativeness of the plant. But not enough to upset ....

Peony leafy - garden savage
Until recently, one did not have to hear much about species peonies. On hearing more garden peonies, which can be found almost everywhere. Year by year, the number of their varieties increases many times.
And very little mention of wild forms of pions. It turns out that the fine-leaved part was fairly widespread in the second half of the last century. The changing fashion for plants removed it from the gardens, replacing them with varietal ones. But interest in natural savages is constantly growing, as is the price of planting stock. And it's not surprising, because thin-leaved peony - a beautifully flowering herbaceous plant of the peony family, has the status of a rare species, is listed in the Red Book.
Thus, a specially protected natural area was established near the village of Tersinka in the Volgograd Region. Such areas are of particular value for the conservation of objects of the flora and fauna listed in the Red Book. They are created in order to preserve the unique places of growth of valuable, rare, rare and endangered plant species, including the small-leaved peony.
Undoubtedly, it is extremely necessary to protect rare plants from barbaric plunder (and as a consequence, and destruction) in favor of the ubiquitous garden fashion. But, on the other hand, the gradual introduction of wild species into the culture, careful care and reproduction by their gardeners will help expand the range of distribution of these plant rarities.
FOR THE NOTICE
This amazing peony often receives folk names in the locality where it grows. As soon as it is not called: peony narrow-leaved, azure flower, funnel, greens, crow, red lazorik. Sometimes it is called a steppe pion. but peony steppe (Paeonia hybrida) and fine-leaved are two completely different plants.
According to information from the World Wide Web and printed sources, peony thin-leafed is now considered one of the most expensive and very popular plants in some countries of Western Europe, the United States and Canada. And this is not surprising, because now in the fashion of natural gardens. And any rare plant becomes a highlight and pride of the gardener.
Peony thin-leafed has become more in demand in Russia. Rarely, who from the guests of our garden is not surprised at the sight of his openwork bushes. Do not stop the gardeners, who are trying to bring this kind of peony into the garden at any price, and the fact that the plant is poisonous.

The peony bush is extremely decorative. Especially during flowering. Not very large flowers of raspberry-cherry hue with a yellow midpoint, exuding a delicate aroma that is not found in garden peonies, open in the morning and close in the evening. This reaction to the change of day and night is particularly touching. Flowering continues for several days, during which the peony is a terrific sight.
Variations on a theme
It attracts special attention and is pleased with the decorativeness of the fine-leaved plant with double flowers. An unusual combination of extremely openwork foliage and double flowers, in which the yellow middle can not be seen, can not leave anyone indifferent. Specialists do not categorically state that this is a wild natural specimen. There is an opinion that he can be a man-made brainchild. It seems that scientists have great opportunities in breeding using species pions. No less attractive and even less common is P. finelybred, blooming with amazing white flowers.
Reproduction of peony with thin-leafed seeds After flowering, a seed box with small black seeds is formed. If there is a desire to multiply the pion with seeds, collect them should be slightly immature. Since they quickly lose their germination, it is better to sow immediately after harvest or late autumn, in this case, after harvesting, they must be able to save. Suitable for this refrigerator. Shoots may appear next spring, and may even in a year or two. The seeds not fully ripened grow much more closely. Sprouting seeds and seeds, not collected in time. True, it is rare and in small quantities. It remains only to be surprised how, while in nature the seed method of reproduction is basic, these unique plants could not disappear. However, no one knows how many have been irretrievably lost over the past millennia.
Seed-bred peonies bloom not soon, unlike the propagated vegetatively (fission of the bush). It is worth noting that by dividing the bush it is possible to rejuvenate the adult plant, whose bloom is deteriorating.
Distinctive feature: to breed a peony thin-leaved it is possible and slices of rhizomes which in the abundance are formed at division or transplantation of a bush. Shorty roots are very fragile and break easily, and buds awakened on them give life to new plants. We were convinced of this by replanting our overgrown peony bushes over time.
When planting the division, it is better not to bury: the buds of renewal should be at a shallow depth. It will not be superfluous if at the bottom of the landing pit you put a drain. Peonies thin-leafed do not tolerate excessive overmoistening, rhizomes can rot. So it is better not to use watering badly.

Care for thin-leaved peony - everything is as in nature
We can say that planting and feeding a wild species is practically the same as that of garden peonies. In nutrition, potassium and phosphorus are important, but it is risky to overfeed nitrogen: the bush is fattening, losing decorativeness, and flowering ceases
be abundant. So it happens with other plants: why take care of the continuation of the genus, if the food is more than necessary. It is easier to drive out the vegetative mass. But one must take into account the fact that this peony is wild, from the natural environment, or rather, it is necessary to take into account the specific features of its habitat.
The thin-leaved peony grows both in the sun and in partial shade. It is noted that in places of natural growth of soil alkaline, which must be ensured when planting in your garden. A simple and affordable deoxidizer will help - wood ash, the constant companion of the gardener. Of course, for some time the peony will try to survive in acidic soil, but this struggle is unlikely to end with a victory over the genes, getting used to unnatural conditions.
In nature, the pion is fed enough, and no one generously adds phosphorus or potassium to the generous hand. Everything is formed by itself.
By dividing the bush, it is possible to rejuvenate an adult peony, whose bloom has deteriorated over time
It is only necessary to adopt the rules for obtaining fertile soil and not to interfere with the working mechanism for centuries to work miracles. And only something and everything: do not dig furiously the land, take for compulsory condition of comfortable plant growth mulching soil with any organic materials.
If you believe the experts, with proper mulching a centimeter layer of humus can form during the season, and in natural nature it will take more than a decade.
But many gardeners still do not believe that mulching the land in the suburban area helps not only to create healthy soil, but also to significantly reduce labor costs when growing many plants. A little way away from the theme of growing pions, we note that thanks to the mulching do not care about the endless loosening of the soil after the rain. Also, this technique makes it possible not to worry about watering.
The most important action of mulch is weed control. They are much more difficult, and often simply impossible to break through it. Out of habit, we fight weeds like Don Quixote with windmills, trying to make the surface of the soil spotlessly clean. Forgetting that keeping the earth naked is simply unacceptable and destructive.
Wild Peonies
A wide range of gardeners is also unfamiliar with a small fraction of wild peonies that survived natural cataclysms and survived to the present day. A little more 20 representatives of this in their own way a unique kind of shrubby and grassy peonies is found in our time. Some of them, to the great chagrin, can be counted on the fingers. The other was more fortunate. One of them is the root often found in the culture, or, in botanical terms, peony evading (Paeonia anomala).
No less interesting and valuable is Wittmann Peony (Paeonia wittmanniana). He has many names, including depending on the variation of color and shape of the flower, pubescence of leaves, habitus of the whole plant. So, the peony of Litvinsky has a white flower with a pink bottom. There are many subtleties, but this is for narrow specialists, and for lovers it’s just Wittmann's peony, a rare and beautiful representative of wildlife.
According to the collector of wild plants Oleg Budkeev from Altai, rare plants are very decorative and are able to decorate any flower garden with their magnificent flowering and unusual appearance. They allow you to create gardens of continuous flowering in the most difficult climatic zones. The collection of rare natural plants in this enthusiastic enthusiast has more than 2 thousand items. Most of them require artificial reproduction. However, his efforts help to replenish the population of rare plants, introduce them into horticultural culture, and also to preserve species from the Red Book for future generations.

NARROW-LEAVED PION - GROWING, LANDING AND CARE. TIPS AND FEEDBACK
PEONY WITH CHARMING LEAVES
Raven, or narrow-leaved peony (thin-leaved). - a rare flower from which it is difficult to look away. Huge - bloody "buds look like poppies, and a special decorative effect gives the bushes - a pillow" on fluffy leaves-needles.
In one place, this herbaceous perennial can grow up to 15 years, forming a rounded rosette. It begins to bloom in late April and early May. The bush reaches a height of about half a meter. The spherical crown looks just gorgeous! It is important to plant narrow-leaved peonies in a sunny area so that they can reveal all their beauty. But preferably with a small shadow at noon, which will save the lush twigs from burns. The plant tolerates drought well, so in the heat I water it no more than 3 times a week.
Division and transplant Over the years, the roots of the peony grow strongly - then you can divide and transplant. The most suitable time is in late summer or early autumn, when the aboveground part dies off and all the nutrients go to the roots, preparing for wintering. The main thing is not to delay this procedure so that the delenki have time to take root before the frost.
I dig small holes, sprinkle humus and leafy soil on the bottom, moisten and plant rhizomes with buds (at least 3 pcs.). They cannot be deepened, since the plants will refuse to bloom in the future.

COMMENTS SPECIALIST
In this species of peony, foliage dies off gradually after flowering. Therefore, it is better to plant decorative plants nearby during the entire vegetative period: hybrid peony, catnip, daylilies, spotted loosestrife, Veronica spikelet, Gaillardia, geranium, bearded and Siberian irises, etc. They are combined with P. narrow-leaved in terms of growing conditions and height. Planting rate of this crop: 2-3 pcs / sq. m. The raven will also look good in rockeries among conifers and stones.

Peony thin-leafed (Paeonia tenuifolia)
Description. A perennial plant with a height of up to 45 cm. When the nodule is being expanded, the thin-leafed leaves look like an unknown fluffy beast because of the narrow leaves. Flowers large, non-marble, bright red. They blossom at the end of May. But unfortunately, as with most species peonies, the blossom of the finely divided plant is very short - only 5 days, and if it's hot outside, then even less.
It is included in the Red Book of Russia, although it is not at all difficult to grow it in the garden. There is a terry variety 'Plena' also with bright red flowers. Agrotechnics. It grows well in an open, sunny area. It prefers drained soil, drainage is one of the components of a successful wintering of this plant. In general, it’s only a breeze and a fear of the thin-leaved - it tolerates low temperatures normally. Unlike many varieties of hybrid peony, it is not damaged by pathogens.
Reproduction. It reproduces by dividing rhizomes immediately after flowering, or (better) in autumn. Using. Effective P. finelygreen is the place in the large rockeries, among stones it looks especially advantageous. You can use it for forcing and cutting. Even planted separately bush of this plant will look interesting.

These beautiful plants please with their huge, charming flowers in the beginning of summer. The main secret of their successful cultivation lies in the correct planting. Choose a bright sunny place for the peony. In the shade, he or not at all will bloom, or bloom will be rare and weak. I planted my first plants under the apple tree, and they did not blossom until I transferred them to a more sunny place.
For pions prepare landing pits 50-70 cm in width and depth for about 2-3 weeks before planting or even earlier. Peony roots are fragile and tender, they grow only in the treated soil. The ground for this flower should be light, fertile, with a neutral reaction. In clay soil, add 1-2 sand buckets for loosening and good drainage. In sandy soil it is recommended to add a couple of buckets of clay to
make it more dense. In the pit, compost and overgrazing manure, leaf or sod land, 300 g bone meal or ashes, according to 150 g superphosphate and potassium sulfate must be added to the pit. I do not use peat, because it acidifies the soil, and peonies do not like it.
When planting, the upper bud should be cut into 3-5 cm in clay soils and at 5-6 cm in sandy soils. If the upper kidney is bare, the plant will be ill. If the rhizome is cut too deep, the peony will never blossom. Care is watering and feeding. Loosen and weed the soil should be seldom and very carefully, so as not to damage the roots. In the spring, I water the peonies with a weak solution of potassium permanganate from diseases and for good growth. In the autumn, I cut the leaves only after they have fallen from freezing, so as not to damage the pion early.
