The aroma of the Provencal Herbs blend largely determines oregano. I really like this smell, and I decided to find out if it is possible to grow southern spice in my garden. It turned out that we have this herb known under less exotic names - oregano and frankincense. As a spice, not flowering adult plants are used, but soft young leaves. In cultivated varieties, greenery is lush, tender and aromatic than in wild counterparts. Varieties are mostly foreign, but they can be successfully planted here too. True, not all of them tolerate winter, so you have to grow it as an annual.
To get greens with a bright scent, you need to take a sunny place under the oregano. She does not like waterlogging and clay soils, let the land be dry and sandy loam or even limestone.

You can multiply oregano by dividing rhizomes. But it grows no worse than the seed sown in the spring, only in the beginning it is necessary to carefully weed the weeds. If the variety is winter-hardy, it will be superfluous to dig a vertical fence around the perimeter of the bed, otherwise the roots of oregano will take over the neighboring territory.

2 a year ago we came to friends at the dacha and saw a funny picture. The hostess in winter leather gloves caught a towel of bees in a raspberry and referred them to a greenhouse that was in the opposite side from the berry. Thus, she wanted to improve the pollination of greenhouse plants and, accordingly, increase their yield.
Previously, we also attracted bees with sugar syrup or honey, but that all changed when we planted oregano next to the greenhouse. As soon as it blooms, it seems like the bees are flocking to us from all around - there are so many of them. In addition to the fact that oregano contributes to better pollination of neighboring plants, it also has healing properties. So we harvest it for the winter for treatment.

By the way, with our friend, we also shared an oregano, so now she does not have to get winter gloves in the summer and turn into a bee-catcher.

I grow on the land oregano. Blossoming and leafy parts of the plant I cut off up to 20 cm, lay out a thin layer on paper and dry in a ventilated room (under a canopy, in the attic). Then I wipe the leaves and flowers lightly, remove the rough stems. I store raw materials in tightly closed containers. I brew fragrant fragrant tea, I prepare medicinal infusions. By the way, it's useful to pour fragrances of herb to protect her from moths. And if you plant the oregano along the edges of the beds - it will scare away the ants and other harmful insects.
