Kale kale has become my favorite quite recently - I’ll tell you about its cultivation. Its main advantage is that it is very cold-resistant, so I boldly sow the seeds in April into a film greenhouse with a continuous, to a depth of 2 cm. I sprinkle with a leaf humus on top. By the end of May, seedlings will grow, and it can be planted on beds. In the garden I do two rows.

Between the plants I leave the distance 35-40 cm, so that the spreading leaves should grow. I make large holes, I throw ash and humus in each. I mix everything, pour it over with water. When the water is absorbed, I plant cabbage. Leaves I eat all summer; new, young people are growing on the site of the cut.

Chinese leaf cabbage is always grown through seedlings. This allows somewhere in 2 times to get a harvest faster than when sowing in the ground. But since this culture is extremely sensitive to root damage, seedlings are grown in peat pots to plant directly into them and not injure the root system.
I sow cabbage at the end of May, and plant it in the garden in early July. At the same time, you can sow Chinese cabbage for the second harvest - immediately into the ground. Just keep in mind that at least 60 days will pass from sowing to full ripening.
I plant seedlings in staggered order at a distance of 30 cm, so that the cabbage leaves do not interfere with each other. I prepare the soil in the beds from autumn, I bring in more organic substances. This cabbage loves light, rich, loose soils with a neutral environment. She also needs moisture, so water it often and abundantly during the summer, otherwise the plant will not form a dense outlet, but leave in color.

Who needs leafy cabbage in the fall, when the vegetable garden is broken without vegetables? I need to make such a mild salad. On its preparation I spend 15 min.
I have been on a diet for a long time, and kale is replacing meat for me. Do not be surprised - she is very nutritious.
200 g of green mass is a daily dose of protein, and it is absorbed more easily than from meat. And another moment, very important for people of my age. This cabbage has a lot of vitamin A - the most important for vision. It is 80 times (!) More than in ordinary cabbage. Convinced? Then to the garden!
I tear off the most delicate leaves of leafy cabbage, but their structure is still rough and there is bitterness. But this bitterness is useful, especially with metabolic disorders.
To whom it is unpleasant, simply cover the leaves with boiling water.
And if the cabbage is slightly taken autumn frost, the bitterness will not be at all (you can put the leaves for half an hour in the freezer).
Then I leave my leaves and finely tear them straight into the salad bowl (I don’t take any veins), cut into 2 apple slices, add a handful of raisins, for dressing - 1/3 cup olive oil and 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar. An extremely healthy salad is ready!

Curiously, no one knows where the leaf cabbage came from. Science claims that it refers to wild cabbage, that is, it is the ancestor of others.
She grew up once and on Russian beds, and then disappeared.
In vain, how does it color your garden in the fall!
Redbor. Dark-violet slightly curly leaves. Productivity. frost resistance and decorativeness are good.
Reflex. The leaves are gray-green, strongly corrugated, withstands frosts up to -18 °. Decorative, taste is high.
Mosbach. Leaves curly with festons of light green color. It has the shape of a dome up to 80 in diameter.
Red high curly. Dark purple, almost black leaves. It has good frost resistance.
The tongue of a lark. Curled green long leaves. Frost-resistant.
    Red feces. Leaves twisted, red.
    Curly, beautiful, healthy ...

Recently in the store I saw corrugated lilac leaves of cabbage. Is it really the same one that grows on flower beds before winter? And is it edible?
On the package I read that it is kale leaf sprouts. But these are not the lilac-pink cochanca that grow like flowers on flowerbeds. The leaf form of cabbage is arranged differently, it does not have a rosette-headband, outwardly it is rather. It is similar to a palm tree, there is a trunk and on it large corrugated or smooth leaves.
    Cabbage and palm trees
But the main difference is different. "Heads" are decorative species, mainly of Japanese selection (a series of hybrids of Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka). "Palms" is a garden culture and very useful. Just a series of kale hybrids (red and green), types of Reflex F1, Redbor F1 and many others belong to it.
    First Venture
I planted Reflex F1 kale, this is a mid-late hybrid of dark green color. Since kale has a long growing season, I grew it through seedlings. I put two seeds in one peat pot (then I chose the most developed one), patched their depth 1 cm. I watered moderately and fed twice (when the second real leaves appeared and two weeks before planting in the ground). Top dressing: 20-30 g nitroammofoski on 10 l of water. A 40-45-day-old seedling with 5 real leaves was planted in open ground, this was the beginning of May. Then she didn’t care much, only watered. In June, I already selectively cut the leaves, chose the most tender from the depths of the outlet. Lower did not touch - the plant may die. So cabbage grew before winter. And the colder, the sweeter and more elegant the leaves. Then, to prolong the pleasure, transplanted her into a pot - and go home!
