Flowers for kindergarten (children's lawn)
What flowers will not harm children but help them to better know nature
Let's start with a harmless flower “war”, because all plants that can shoot with seeds at least for a short distance cause the most lively interest in children.
This property is possessed not only by a common weed, small-flowered weed, but also by some garden plants. If there is nothing small-flowered to do in the garden, then its tropical and subtropical relatives are welcome not only children - lovers of all kinds of "shooters", but also the older generation - connoisseurs of exotic beauty.
Miraculously, you can combine love for flowers and children by decorating your garden, for example, with a touch of balsam, or garden balsam (Impatiens balsamina). This is an annual heat-loving plant with a height of up to 70 cm with a straight, juicy, fleshy stalk on which large, about 4 cm in diameter, simple or double flowers sit tightly in the axils of the leaves. They can be white, pink, lilac and red, and in form distinguish flowers that resemble a rose, a camellia and a carnation.
Balsamin easily reproduces quite large seeds that are sown in March, and transplant seedlings in the open ground only after the threat of frost passes. On the flower bed plants are placed at a distance of 20-30 cm from each other.
The more fertile the land, the higher they will be. In addition, more powerful plants can be obtained if they are fed regularly with a full complex fertilizer, but at a lower concentration than for other plants.
Balsam also grows well in a container where it can be planted denser - at a distance of about 15 cm between the stems. In the container, the combination of balsam and portulaca large-flowered looks advantageous, juicy fleshy stems and large bright flowers of which are in perfect harmony with balsam. Important: thanks to the creeping growth form, the purslane successfully decorates the bases of the erect stems of the neighbor and makes the potted composition more magnificent.

The main requirement of balsam is regular heavy watering.
For children, the most interesting thing in a plant is not flowers, but boxes with seeds, so do not remove faded flowers. This guest from the grandmother's garden has been out of fashion so long ago that today it is quite capable of producing the impression of a rare novelty. It is appropriate in the flower garden in retro style, and in the garden, stylized during the Victorian era.
It was during this period that the heyday of the "Lisa Coot" was flourishing - this is another plant nickname received from English gardeners for their ability to tirelessly bloom.
Well, mothers, whom old-fashioned flowers are not too impressive, can opt for original novelties - unusual compact varieties with a highly branched bush without a main stem.
This bouquet-bush dwarf varieties, for example 'Tom Thumb' and 'Topknot' 20-30 cm high. Important: exploding seed bolls can be absolutely without damage to the flowerbed: the flowers remain intact in place - this is a reserve that must be protected. After all, in a few days new ammunition will ripen in their place!
Excellent panama will be obtained even from one leaf of a large buzulnik. Well, inflorescences, similar to yellow daisies, attract many insects, including beautiful butterflies, for which it is so fascinating to observe.
Each basket inflorescence consists of many tiny flowers filled with nectar and pollen. Therefore, insects linger in this "dining room" for a long time. It is suitable for similar purposes and Brunner.
Her soft blue stars are surprisingly similar to forget-me-nots, which is quite understandable explanation: these plants bind related bonds.
Unlike two-year-old forget-me-nots, which have to be constantly renewed from seeds, Brunner sits on the same place for years and every spring blooms regularly, and her flowers are pleasantly fragrant.
After flowering, the leaves of the brunners are stretched out and do not look as neat as they were at the beginning of the season. If they are mown, soon new leaves grow, and the plant regains its decorativeness. This is the right time to start making hats! The wide leaves of the brunnery, bound by the petioles, will completely go down for Robinson Crusoe's headdress.
Is not it time to eat something delicious? Nectar of flowers nasturtium (Tropaeolum majus) - sweet prey of young hunters for the wealth of the kingdom of Flora. In order to get it, you need to get acquainted with the structure of the flower.
Nectar accumulates in a spur 2,5-3 cm long. Each nasturtium flower retains freshness for about 5 days. It makes no sense to pick off newly opened flowers for the sake of nectar - most of it is formed only on the 3rd day. Stamens with mature pollen are already clearly visible at this time. But "empty" flowers should not disappear either!
They are quite edible, so take them to the kitchen to use to decorate a salad or broth. Piquant leaves, reminiscent to the taste of watercress, are rich in vitamin C and also eaten in small quantities, and unopened buds and unripe green seeds can be marinated as capers.
Tired of red nasturtium? Start unusual varieties, for example Black Velveteen, King Theodore with almost black flowers or Cream and Yeti with pale yellow and cream. In a mixture of seeds Night and Day You will immediately get two contrasting colors - dark red and cream.
Tip: plant nasturtium on a sunny spot, it is here that it blooms abundantly and accumulates a lot of nectar.
Show the kids how to remove the blue corollas from the flowers of cucumber grass (or borage), and you can be sure: they will appreciate this discovery at its true worth. It would seem that a tender flower is so small that it is not even enough for one tooth!
But the "heavenly" flowers, slightly sweet in taste, act truly bewitching on young gourmets. The entire plant, with the exception of blue corollas of flowers, is covered with hard, prickly villi. The green cup of the flower in which the corolla sits - a blue star of 5 petals - is also covered with villi. So first practice yourself how best to separate the whisk from the cup. Blue stars are an exquisite floral delicacy and a great decoration for your favorite children's treats: ice cream, cocktails, mousses, as well as other desserts and salads. This plant was called cucumber grass for its fresh cucumber taste. In our kitchen, it would probably be much more popular if it were not for the prickly "edge".
Young large leaves of borago before flowering - a wonderful salad.
And you can get rid of the villi ”by wrapping a bunch of leaves in a plastic bag and rolling it between the palms until the leaves let the juice out. Now it remains to chop them very finely and season with salad dressing or vegetable oil and salt. Leaves and juicy stalks can also be added to soups, especially in cold summer okroshki. They are suitable for cooking and stewing as a substitute for spinach.

The color of the cucumber grass varies depending on which soil (acidic or neutral) the plant has settled. Under normal conditions, the flowers are blue, on acidic soil they can become pink. Tip: plant the cucumber grass only once, and it will appear to you by itself every spring from the seeds that have awakened to the ground.
Borago is an annual, but it reproduces itself spontaneously. Unlike cucumbers, the plant is not at all afraid of the cold, and therefore gives a crop much earlier than its heat-loving vegetable neighbor.

Flowers for the nursery
The question of plants for the nursery arose in a conversation with the youngest daughter. She and her husband recently bought a new apartment and asked me, as an avid flower girl, for advice. Here are some things to consider when creating this green corner.
Children love small objects and look at them with curiosity
in details. So the flowers are attracted by medium-sized ones, with small leaves and flowers, with a thin pattern of veins and a pattern on the leaves.
Do not place your plants high. Place blooming saintpaulias, begonias, primroses on low shelves. So you will protect the child, and it will be more convenient to look at the flowers, as well as take care of them.
Choosing an assortment for girls, choose species with bright double flowers: tuberous begonia, fuchsia, violet. Boys will love peperomia with its unusual spikelets. Complement the composition with specimens with bright stripes, spots, picturesque drawings: rheo, tradescantia, arrowroot, variegated begonias.
If you hang a lamp over a green corner at a distance of 60-70 cm from the tops of the plants, even in winter it will always be in flowers.
Explain to the children that it is impossible to pluck (especially try to taste) the leaves - many plants are poisonous.
