Growing strawberries in barrels
How strawberries are grown in barrels
I want to share with my readers my way of growing strawberries without much hassle. Or rather, the idea belongs to my mother, and I just managed to implement it.
And the results, frankly, we are both very pleased.
So, my mother suggested growing strawberries not in the beds, but in an old barrel. The benefit is twofold: there is no need to tinker with the beds, and the accumulated iron "good", which can no longer be used for its intended purpose, can be properly disposed of.
In the barrel, we made 5 × 5 cm cuts into 5 tiers in a checkerboard pattern.
Then they took a plastic pipe for sewerage with a diameter of 100-120 mm, from one end they closed it with a plug and drilled with a 1,5 mm drill along its entire length of the watering hole.
After this, we put a kapron stocking on the pipe (this is something like a filter) and placed it in the center of the iron container vertically with the open end facing upwards.
Then filled the entire space between the pipe and the walls of the barrel with earth, well mixed with sand (in relation to the volume, the ratio was 2 / 3: 1 / 3) and well rammed.
Then they poured water into the pipe and began to plant strawberries in the slots in the walls of the barrel.
To do this, we made chopsticks there (at an angle and down), placed a mustache there, pressed it slightly and slightly, as if sealing them, added land taken from the bed.
Caring for strawberries is simple: regularly pour water into the pipe, trim the mustache and feed the plants (you can also pour the solution into the pipe, or you can spray it into the incisions). In autumn, all the leaves, except for a couple of leaves on each plant, cut off.

In winter, I put on a barrel on the barrel (my grandfather cooked it for me), on which I stretch a light dense film for insulation. If there is no welding machine on the farm or in the neighbors, then you can take four bars and build a greenhouse over the barrel - the main thing is that there should be a gap of about 10 cm between its walls and this shelter.
And now about the specific advantages of this method. The barrel occupies an area in the garden, on which there would be about four strawberry bunches, but in it freely grow around 50. And the first sweet berries ripen here earlier than in the ground. If someone likes the idea of my mother, I will be very happy. I have many novelties implemented in the dacha, but I'll tell you about them later.
