This summer, for the first time, I encountered so many aphids that even the leaves of the cabbage were deformed, the heads of cabbage did not mate, and those that were mated were loose. I tried to spray cabbage with soapy water (200 g per 5 l of water), decoctions of celandine and yarrow (400 g of fresh grass in 10 l of water), but the result is almost imperceptible. What to do?

Aphid is a fragile insect, but it multiplies rapidly, so only a few individuals are enough to completely restore the dead colony in five to seven days. Especially in August cabbage and dill suffer from aphids. While there are not very many pests, every 5-6 days, inspect plants and destroy insects manually.
If the aphids become noticeably larger, spray the plants with a bio-insecticide diluted according to the instructions (Fitoverm, Akarin, Dachnik), repeat the treatment after 3-4 days. During this time, the pests must die. By the way, the summer resident not only destroys aphids, but also scares away ants.
If it rains heavily, spraying plants is useless. In this case, pour the cabbage (not dill!) With a systemic insecticide diluted according to the instructions (Ultor, August, Adam). Harvesting will be possible no earlier than 30 days after using the drug.

Cabbage aphids like to settle on the underside of leaves, so these parts of the plant should be checked more often. Otherwise, you risk discovering a pest only when the leaves begin to shrink and curl.
In order to prevent aphids on the cabbage bed, it is necessary to observe crop rotation and not to plant cabbage twice in the same place. But onions, mustard, dill, mint, chamomile, basil are excellent predecessors and neighbors for cabbage. Their bright aroma of aphids is not to their taste. In addition, fragrant plants attract insects that kill aphids.

If the plantings are small, you can remove the aphids manually or using a powerful jet of water. Just do not get too carried away, so as not to damage the plants themselves. Other proven methods are the treatment of plantings with a solution of tar soap with ash, a decoction of onions and garlic (along with husks), tobacco tinctures or dusting with dry tobacco. All these products are safe for humans and other cultures, but they cannot tolerate them.

Gardeners are unanimous in their desire to eat vegetables and fruits without chemicals. And to abandon it, we need insect-predators. In Europe, they are specially brought to the gardens and build houses for wintering. And what do we do?

Still, it’s not that we still have an environmental consciousness in order to seriously build houses for bugs and spiders, except for fun with grandchildren. By the way, there’s nothing complicated - the same birdhouse, but instead of the flight hole there is a grill, and inside there is shavings or hay. But we can feed our helpers in the spring - for example, in the winter I plant their favorite plants. For predatory wasps and flies - daisies, daisies, mint, thyme.
Riders and os are attracted by flowers of dill, anise, carrots, mustard. Necessarily need plants-honey plants (oregano, mint, melissa). Almost all useful insects eat nectar, this increases their fertility. So, they will destroy more pests.
