Honestly, in my youth I worked through my sleeves, I didn’t understand where to plant and what was growing - I didn’t go at all. I had three young children, work and home. Basically, everything was done by the husband in the garden, and I did so, sometimes I saw the grass where he showed it. But time passed, the children grew up, started their own families, parted. And I began to closely engage in beds and flowers, mother earth pulled me to her. My husband and I began to plant everything - greens, potatoes, beets, onions, carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes ...

And it's so nice to watch the thin, tender plants grow from under your hands first, and then the heroic vegetables.

But cabbage does not love me. It still grows poorly, no matter how hard I try. Constantly keel on the roots. This year we decided to abandon it altogether - probably our land is sick. The garden is only 5 acres, small lawns, flowers, beds of only 6, crop rotation is not particularly work out. Come on, god with her, with cabbage, I want to tell you about something else.

Onions are family, medium-sized, not burning, the color slightly lilac. As the grade is called, I do not know. I got it from my mother, she planted it in the village, and I remember it in her memory. All the landings I spend with prayer, always on the Lunar calendar. I try to survive the terms, and it justifies itself.

In the spring, when the earth warms up (around mid-April), we dig up the beds. We have two of them, with autumn mustard growing on them. I harrow with a rake and make furrows with a depth of 10-15 cm, fall asleep with humus, spill plentifully with a warm solution of potassium permanganate of a dark pink color, then put a handful of ash in each well. Distances: a row from a row is 20 cm, and a bulb from a bulb is 10 cm, since I have a large onion - 20-30 mm.

Here the beds are ready. I start to prepare onions - peel them of excess husks, cut off their spouts and soak them in a warm (36 °) pink potassium permanganate solution for 15-20 minutes.

Then I put it in a bucket of clean water, also warm, so that the onion does not get cold and does not go into a turnip. The following procedure: lower the onions for 1-2 minutes. in a solution of copper sulfate (1 tbsp. l. per 10 liters of water), then drain the water and proceed to planting. I stick the bulbs into the prepared furrows to the depth of my fingers, the ground is soft, lush - everything happens quickly. I sprinkle humus on top again and level the grooves with my hands to protect them from spring frosts. From a watering can furrows I pour warm water. A week later I spend watering again.

Non-aromatic top dressing for "Moscow" onions

The onion is so arranged that at first it grows a lobe, and then feathers appear, and such beauty - they stand in even rows, like soldiers in the ranks! As soon as the feathers grow 10-15 cm, I spend the first dressing with a urea solution (3 tbsp. L. Per 10 liters of water). Watering under the root in the hole. Just like most summer residents, we are preparing two barrels of herbal infusion with my husband. The husband cuts nettles, dandelions, pipes, burdocks - everything that grows behind the fence.

We take on a barrel of 4 buckets of grass, a bucket of Mullein, 2-liter jar of ash, pour up to the top with water, cover with a plastic wrap and tie. The barrels stand in the sun, fermentation goes on for a week and a half. Periodically mix to make the grass rot and settle to the bottom. Then the husband will transport this grass with pitchforks under the raspberry bushes. Here is top dressing and ready. This "rattling mixture" I call stinking.

I raise the water 1: 10 and feed not only onions, but also all crops in the garden flowers and berry bushes. Such fertilizing is very pleasant for all plants.

Yes, but I'm a little off topic. If the year is rainy, in June in heads, which are still practically not tied up, some white worms are planted. The onion begins to wilt, the feathers become sluggish, and I immediately instill the insect drug according to the instructions and water the onion under the root from the ladle.

If some bulbs are still drooping, I simply remove them from the garden so that they do not infect others. During the season I observe: if the greens at the feathers are light green, painful, during the rain I feed with ammonium nitrate - sprinkle it directly on the ground from above, and the rain completes the job.

I like my bow: I plant one bulb, and in the nest grows 4-6 pcs. I water, feed, the field, I loosen until the middle of July, then watering is on a decline. The bulbs are gaining strength, I do not touch them any more, they quickly increase in size, and the feathers themselves begin to lie down on the bed. And I wait, when they will dry the neck and roots themselves will depart from the ground.

In late July - early August, the onion matures. We pull it out, although almost all of it already lies on top of the garden. We dry it there, if the weather is good, and during the week we remove it to the country house for a night and take it out to the sun during the day. Then we trim the feathers, leaving the ends of 10-15 cm, and put in the attic until completely dry. Then I clean the bulbs from the husks and roots and tie them into braids of 1,5-2 kg.

We store them at home, we hang in the kitchen on the wall. The onion is stored well, we use it all autumn and winter, and leave it for seeds again.
