Growing luiseanii - care tips
"I had to get acquainted. closer with this plant, and learn how to take care of it "
Natalia Karkacheva, Krasnodar Territory
If you are just going to plant a beautifully flowering shrub in your garden, but have not yet decided which one to prefer, I suggest you stop at louiseanii.
Is not that a name that caresses the ear? Perhaps this beautiful deciduous shrub is known to you under the name "plum three-blade" or "almond three-blade».
And also called Japanese sakura.
And the truth is, these shrubs are very much alike, but only these are completely different plants. I am more accustomed to call the bush a loiseanie: it sounds not only shorter, but also more poetic. The name of the plant came from the American state, where, in fact, it once caught the attention of local amateur gardeners.

Louisiana: description
The pink fluffy miracle is a compact shrub up to three meters high, which can be grown and in the form of a bast. The plant is equally beautiful in both single and group planting.
It looks great on the lawn, especially against the background of coniferous species. Blossoms louisenia in early May, when nature begins to shine with bright magical colors. But even among other things, it's impossible not to notice the louiseanie.
Non-sprouting, soft shoots, as yet lacking leaves, are entirely covered with amazing terry or simple (depending on the variety) pink flowers growing in pairs. The flowers have such short stems, that it seems as though the flowers are glued to the trunk. Elegant and gentle, they look like miniature roses, looking at which one simply captures the spirit. Blossoms louiseanie e for two weeks, but that's not all.
Luiseanija and in the autumn decorate itself with a garden. Thanks to the yellow, orange and red leaves, the whole bush burns like a bright flaming fire.
Louisiana: landing and care
This decorative shrub loves sunny places, covered from the wind. It grows on almost any soil, but preference is given to easy, fertile, well drained loam. During flowering, the plant needs watering, since without enough moisture, the flowers are diminishing, and the louisanium fades faster. Just fill the plant should not be.
In case of waterlogging and stagnation of water, the root neck can decay in luiseania. Twice a year it is desirable to make fertilizing. In spring, I feed the bush with organic fertilizer (1 kg of mullein per bucket of water), in autumn - mineral fertilizer (20 g superphosphate and potassium sulfate).
The adult plant tolerates smooth, snowy winters without changes in temperature. Young plants need shelter. Thin branches are bent to the ground, fixed in any gentle way and covered with non-woven material.
I did not notice any specific pests and pathogens for the plant. But for preventive purposes, I still spray 12% solution of Bordeaux liquid over the green cone of the plant.
To stimulate the growth of new shoots, after flowering all blooming branches are shortened by 2 / 3 length. Very important for luiseanii and sanitary pruning, so every autumn I cut out all the old branches and branches that grow inside the crown. Thinning and removing dry, broken branches helps to preserve the decorative nature of the bush for a long time, and protects the plant from pests. Sections always disinfect, trunks bleach annually.
The main breeding is considered to be an inoculation on a plum, a turn or almonds. A good result is reproduction by horizontal layers.
But such a propagation popular among gardeners in the case of reproduction of louisenia can suffer a fiasco: green cuttings take root very badly and in most cases fall out in the first winter. But if this is the only way to buy a bush, prepare the cuttings with a margin and have patience: from 10 pieces, half will get used to it.

LUISEANIA - LANDING AND CARE. FLOWER TIPS AND REVIEWS
"Blue spraying" for louiseanie
The five-year-old almond bush of the three-lobed (luiseanii) last spring blossomed very luxuriantly. But at the end of flowering suddenly appeared shrinking, in places almost black twigs (similar to a monilial burn). I had to sever the crop severely. How to protect him from a dangerous disease in the new season? How to properly care for flowering to be annual?
Arthur Sveshnikov
You were not mistaken, this is a monilial burn; stone crops, including louisania, often suffer from it. To prevent the spread of the disease in the future, carry out a comprehensive treatment of the entire garden. In early spring, before the buds swell, spray fruit trees and shrubs, as well as louisenia with 2-3% Bordeaux fluid. Copper preparations work effectively at temperatures close to 0 degrees, that is, processing can
conduct on melting snow (it is also called early spring "blue spraying").
Re-treat the bush with a Bordeaux liquid before flowering, on buds, using an 1% solution, so as not to burn the kidneys. As a substitute, a systemic fungicide with the therapeutic and protective action "Horus" (according to the instructions) is also suitable. Effective double spraying works with an interval of two weeks: before and after flowering.
That your luiseaniya was healthy and happy with flowering every year, conduct disease prevention regularly.
Observe simple techniques of agricultural technology:
- Do not allow thickening of plantings (the bush should be "ventilated");
- in the spring for sanitary purposes, remove dry and damaged shoots;
- regularly mulch the soil at the bottom;
- feed and water the plant as needed.
After strong pruning or flowering, at the moment of appearance of green leaves and growth of new shoots, feed almonds with nitrogen fertilizer, for example, ammonium nitrate (1 tbsp / bucket of water). The plant will respond well to the organics, to restore strength, pour the bush with Mullein infusion (1: 10). Mineral and organic top dressing can be combined.

PINK LACE OF LUISEANIA
Three-lobed received its "nickname" from the name of the American state. The bushes look gorgeous not only at the time of flowering (May), but also in autumn, when the shoots are decorated with yellow, orange and red leaves like a “blazing bonfire”.
PREFERENCES
Louiseania loves light, fertile, well-drained loamy, sunny, unprotected places.
During flowering, I abundantly water it, otherwise the flowers become smaller and fade faster.
I feed in the spring - with organic matter (1 kg of mullein / 10 l of water), in the fall - with mineral fertilizer (20 g each of superphosphate and potassium sulfate).
Adult specimens winter well without shelter, young plantings need to be sheltered.
To prevent disease in the spring, I spray the bush with a 12% solution of Bordeaux fluid.
After flowering branches shorten by 2/3 of the length. I carry out sanitary pruning in the fall, cutting out old, broken and growing branches inside the crown.
Trunk annually (spring or autumn) whitewash.
BREEDING LOUISEANIA
Reproduction by layering gives a good result. For cuttings, it is better to take summer green shoots, be sure to treat them before planting with any root formation stimulator.

MONILIOSIS LUISEANIA
Last season, immediately after wintering, I noticed dried tops on some branches of three-lobed almonds. The buds were not swollen everywhere, the plant bloomed badly. And after flowering, the shoots began to turn brown and dry en masse. What could it be?
Vera Surikova
- These are signs of moniliosis (monilial burn, or gray rot). The causative agent of a fungal disease hibernates in the garden on mummified fruits, affected branches and weeds growing nearby, in spring it is spread by wind and insects.
What to do?
Perform sanitary pruning of the bush in March. Remove all affected and dry parts and branches thickening the crown and burn them. Treat the almonds with any copper-containing preparation (I usually use Bordeaux mixture, "Hom" or "Abiga-Peak" - all according to the instructions). Remove weeds in the area in time.
In order for the luizeania to gain strength after pruning, feed it before flowering with nitrogen fertilizer (1-2 tablespoons of urea or ammonium nitrate on a bush, sprinkle in the near-trunk circle, followed by embedding in the soil and abundant watering). In dry springs, additionally moisturize the root zone for abundant flowering. After the flowers fade, to lay flower buds for the next year, mulch the earth around with organic matter: humus, compost or light low-lying (not sour) peat with a layer of 5-7 cm, bypassing the base and the area of the root collar, in order to prevent decay and decay. If signs of moniliosis reappear, re-treat with any copper preparation.

LOUISEANIA - ALMONDS LIKE SAKURA
In early spring, not only primroses bloom, but also some ornamental shrubs and trees that always delight. One of them is almond, which belongs to the Rosaceae family. I also have this early flowering shrub growing in my garden.
There are several types of almonds. The most common are low (or bean), three-lobed (or louiseania), Ledebour, Georgian, Petunnikova.
I just grow perennial three-lobed almonds. It is no more than 3 m high, with wonderful double pale pink flowers and leaves of an indistinct three-lobed shape, growing in bunches, hence the name. It is also called sakura near Moscow for its abundant, unusually beautiful flowering.
For the first time, I saw such flowering decorative almonds at my neighbors in the country. I was simply fascinated by the fabulous beauty of this beautiful shrub, whose shoots were densely strewn with large double pale pink flowers, similar to roses.
As a result, she begged a seedling from her neighbors and planted it at the end of September in a sunny, elevated, wind-protected area, although this type of ornamental almond can grow in a small penumbra, but it is important that there is sun for most of the day.
The main thing is to avoid planting on swampy, low-lying soils.
The root neck of Louisiana did not deepen much. After planting, the seedling was thoroughly watered and the soil was mulched with humus.
Further care consists in moderate watering, loosening the soil, removing weeds.
The three-lobed almond is quite drought-resistant, so I water it only as the topsoil dries up under the root. I increase watering only during flowering and for the first time after planting for better plant survival, but I do not allow stagnant water.
Louisiana is quite winter-hardy, but sometimes with sudden changes in temperature, frequent thaws, flower buds and unripened shoot tips can freeze out, so I still mulch it with fallen leaves for the winter.
If the shoots suddenly froze, then in the spring they should be cut to living wood, and cover the cuts with garden pitch. I also don’t recommend throwing a lot of snow into the near-trunk circle so that there is no excessive waterlogging, as this can lead to dampening of the roots and death of the shrub.
My Louisiana pleased me with its soft pink blooms already in the second year after planting, in mid-April, and its flowering usually lasts for two to three weeks.
At this time, a fantastically beautiful sight appears in the garden. The shrub is covered with many rapidly growing buds that open into amazingly beautiful roses.
After flowering, the bush is completely covered with pale green oval leaves with an elongated top, which in autumn, in October, change their green color to bright yellow-orange colors with a red tint.
After flowering stops, seeds are tied in the form of velvet, hairy nuts, but they are inedible and then fall off.
Such a shrub looks decorative until the cold weather.
Three-lobed almonds require annual pruning. Therefore, immediately after it fades, I cut the faded shoots in half, remove the damaged, thickening branches growing inside the bush. Once every 5 years I rejuvenate the shrub by cutting out thick, powerful stems. After pruning, active growth of young shoots occurs, flowering becomes even more magnificent.
Louisiana is unpretentious, but responds well to fertilizing with organic and mineral fertilizers. After flowering, I feed it with humus, mixing it with the top layer of the earth. In autumn, I fertilize with a mixture of potash fertilizers and superphosphate so that the plant winters better.
Almonds can sometimes be affected by a fungal disease - monilial burn. Infection with them usually occurs during flowering, and after it some of the branches look wilted and shrunken because of this. To combat such a disease, after flowering ends, the affected shoots are cut to a living fresh place and burned. In this case, the disease will not spread, and in the fall, young branches will grow on the shrub, which will delight with delicate flowering in the next season.
Louisiana is also susceptible to Fusarium wilt and gray mold. In this case, I remove fading branches in a timely manner. It can be attacked by aphids. To combat it, onions are well suited. To do this, I insist 400 g of onion peel in a bucket of warm water for a week. Then I filter and spray the plant every two weeks.
The main thing is to prevent the occurrence of diseases and pests on Louisiana, it is necessary to follow the rules and conditions for its cultivation. First of all, do not overmoisten the plant, prevent stagnant water, provide good drainage, choose sunny, wind-protected places for planting, prune in a timely manner so that the shrub does not thicken, do not overfeed with fertilizers.
Louisiana can be propagated by green cuttings, as well as by grafting, dividing the bush or layering. I usually propagate by layering. To do this, I pin the branches to the ground, sprinkle with soil and keep them moist, and then carefully transplant them to a permanent place.
I advise you to purchase a Louisiana and plant it in your garden plot. The fabulously beautiful, luxurious flowering of this elegant shrub in early spring will undoubtedly please you and bring a lot of positive emotions.
