Cultivation of tomatoes in cylinders (in "two floors"): reviews
Cultivation of tomatoes in cylinders - my feedback on the experiment
A few years ago you had an article about how one village woman began to place vertical cylinders on top of planted tomato plants, obtained by cutting the bottom and throat of 5-liter bottles, and pressed them onto the 1-3 cm into the ground.
Then she fell asleep in these cylinders, and tomatoes, forming a double root system, yielded a good harvest.
When the neighbors saw what a huge harvest this woman collects, the whole village began planting tomatoes only in this way.
A couple of years ago, and I decided to try out such a planting, and planted all the plants in the cylinders.
Grade Typhoon - I planted him for the first time. The harvest was decent, but there was no control landing; besides, it seemed to me that this method was somewhat laborious.
In 2016, I decided to try the "cylindrical" method again, but with the control for comparison. I planted tomatoes Caspar F1, Candy tree F1 and Neighbor's envy F1 staggered in two rows - on the left into the cylinders, on the right immediately into the ground.
In the photo (Caspar) it is seen that in the left row the bushes are more powerful, the number of the fastened fruits is larger, they are larger and they start to turn red sooner.
I wrapped a transparent cylinder with a cardboard or folded several times with a newspaper so that the roots would not be illuminated by the sun and would not overheat.
The effect is obvious, but there were also shortcomings: more work, it is difficult to put the cylinder on seedlings so that the base of the stem was in its middle, the earth in the cylinders dries more quickly (perhaps because of more intensive consumption of water by a more powerful bush).
I determined the necessity of irrigation in terms of the appearance of the earth and its perception.
I think that you can simplify putting on a cylinder by cutting it along and spreading its edges, and put it on the bush not on the top, but on the side.
The cut can be fastened with adhesive tape or tied it over the cardboard with a twine, and then fall asleep in the cylinder of the ground.
The conclusion is unequivocal: the "two-storeyed" arrangement of tomato roots, obtained by growing seedlings in cylinders with soil, increases the yield and the rate of fruit ripening.
Dear summer residents, colleagues, try new methods of growing and increasing the yield of tomatoes! I wish everyone good health and optimism!
Note: Tomatoes are lovers of fresh soil, so you should not plant them in the same place for several years in a row. All kinds of pathogens, accumulating in the ground, will lead to the development of serious diseases.

Do not plant tomatoes after potatoes: these are related crops, and the probability of damage to phytophthora will be very high. It is better to plant tomatoes after root crops, cucumbers, peas, cabbage.
