On a specialized forum I read advice on how to grow phlox from seeds. In early September, you need to cut off the dried inflorescences from a beautiful bush and put them in a box. When the seed pods are cracked, select the largest seeds and in November sow them in open ground on the soil surface, lightly sprinkling with earth. Amicable shoots will appear in the spring. When the seedlings stretch up to 8-10 cm, it's time to dive. Should such an experiment be carried out?

      - With seed reproduction, perennial phloxes lose varietal characteristics - children will differ in color from their parents. If that doesn't matter to you, try experimenting. But remember: phlox seeds lose their germination very quickly, so it is better not to store them until next year. By the way, phlox grown from seeds are more resistant to adverse weather conditions than those obtained from cuttings or by dividing a bush.

Somehow I bought varietal phlox at the exhibition. A couple of seasons admired their unique beauty. But last year I discovered that the color of the petals began to deviate from the selection description: and the color changed slightly, and the strokes appeared. What is the reason?

      - Over time, phloxes gradually mutate. Plants of some varieties are quite resistant to changes, others have long ago differed from one another in different regions, and some, especially shaded, generally easily return to the parent variants.
The main causes of plant mutation
Violation of agricultural technology, climate change.
On acidic soil, not only popular garden hydrangeas become blue. Inflorescences of many varieties of phlox, whose color varies in purple-violet-violet scales, also become syne-violet. And they should be transplanted into a neutral or slightly alkaline soil, and the color comes back to normal.
From the scorching sun, some phloxes burn out, the color is noticeably lighter. This is typical for dark-colored flowers, purple-purple and red, as well as for bluish-lilac and some pink. Therefore, Varieties Wizard, Firebird, Manon, Lubasha recommend planting in a light penumbra.
Some phlox in the heat give very interesting changes. Especially the old domestic variety of Margri.
Because of the rains, the haze on many specimens is noticeable in many specimens, which is hardly noticeable. If the autumn is wet, on my Dragon silvery strokes cease to appear at all.

Collected the seeds of phlox. How to determine which ones and which ones are not? And how can their mature ones be cleansed? When to sow?

Seeds of phlox paniculate are collected in September, when the boxes are already yellowing. Cut the inflorescences, fold in a large box and store in a dry, cool place until November. Then they bring it into the house, in the warmth the seed boxes begin to crack. Seeds are harvested, the largest, healthy are chosen. Sowing under the winter immediately into the open ground on a previously prepared bed.
Plant them on the shore of the pond, only not in the sun. Place pick up in the penumbra, in a wet area with a bit of sour soil. You will immediately notice their transformation: first of all, the bloom will be longer.

For phloxes, dry stems are cut for winter, but they can not be burned and not put in compost, but with their help a shelter for heat-loving perennials and even low roses. Fold the hut with stalks, and they will become an excellent snow-holder and will help at least to insulate the plants if the winter is not very snowy.
