Varieties of blue and blue phlox - photo, name and description
Blue phlox (changing color) - which varieties to choose
Incredibly, but - a fact: all known phloxes can appear in such an unexpected image.
True - not all and not always. Do you want to "splash" in the suburban area such a magnificent blue? Then it's time to get to know the right grades.
You will never see blue phlox in the daytime in the bright sun.
But in the twilight - in shading or in cutting - some lilac, purple and violet-white phloxes are magically transformed and become bright blue or blue.
Attention, under the name of each variety, is the surname of the breeder and the year of introduction, as well as the characteristics of the phlox: the size of the flower, the height of the bush and the flowering period.
ALEXEI LENSKY EA Konstantinova, 2010; 3, 8-4 cm; 60-70 cm; average. Yes, yes, it was Alexei, and not Pushkin Vladimir - many people who confuse the title. Elena Konstantinova for a long time chose a seedling, worthy of the name of her brother, a military physicist, liquidator of the consequences of the accident in Chernobyl.

There he received radiation sickness and died young. That's why the phlox is so tragic. The color of the flower is very unusual: white with a lilac shade; The dark purple tone from the center spreads unevenly to the edges. In this case, white stamens create an additional spectacular contrast on a dark purple background. Buds are light purple. Dense hemispherical inflorescences slightly under their weight on sturdy peduncles. The variety is easily propagated by cuttings. Phlox 'Alexey Lenski' is very effective in the garden and is visible from afar. It is better to plant it in the foreground in groups or combine it with white and blue in the twilight varieties.
MIDSHIPMAN. EA Konstantinova, 2008, 2 cm; 80 cm; average. In the afternoon this small-flowered phlox is dark purple, and in the evening it is blue. Rounded medium-sized round-conical inflorescences are composed of cup-shaped flowers with wavy edges. Thanks to the graphicality of the inflorescences and the sturdy peduncles, 'Gardemarin' will perfectly fit into the natural flower gardens in the neighborhood with other blue, pink or white phloxes, as well as with ornamental grasses, purifiers, Veronica, and derbennikami.
GZHEL EA Konstantinova, 2003; 4 cm; 90-100 cm; early-middle. The name of this masterpiece speaks it eloquently. It looks like a traditional porcelain painting: generous blue swabs on a white background. The buds are bright blue at the same time. Inflorescences large, bush strong, growing both in the sun and in the penumbra, quickly restored after the rains. Easily propagated by cuttings.
PRIDE OF RUSSIA Yu. A. Reperv, 2010; 4,5 cm; 100 cm; average. In the afternoon lilac, with a tiny light star in the center, and in the evening - noble-blue. Wavy petals are divided and do not overlap, flowers are collected in large dense round-conical inflorescences. The stems are strong and do not require a garter. This phlox is of amazing beauty, so it makes sense to combine it with other garden masterpieces, for example, with 'Alexei Lensky', and not to be exchanged for more mundane subjects.
Forget-me-not E.A. Konstantinova, 2005; 4,3 cm, 70 cm, medium-early. Why this phlox is called 'Forget-me-not', it is not necessary to explain it - it's enough to see it in the twilight. And in the daytime it's just a beautiful lilac phlox. The more surprising is the change that occurs to him literally within an hour. In the afternoon, pleasing the eye with an even purple color, with the onset of the evening it becomes bright blue. The petals have a noticeable rhombic shape. Half-spherical inflorescences are very large and evenly filled. The bush is powerful, the stems are strong and do not require a garter. "Forget-me-not" blossoms for a long time, it is easily restored after heavy precipitation and quickly grows. Suitable for flower beds of any style, planting a group, looks good in bouquets. Beautiful in contrast with the yellow flowers, for example, with lilies.
SPEECH. EA Konstantinova, 2008; 4 cm; 80 cm; average. From the center to the edges, its lilac shade becomes lighter. At dusk, the phlox acquires a piercing blue color. Good in combination with white and blue phlox and perennials with blue and blue flowers.

BIRD SYRIN. O. K. Kudryavtseva, 2006; 2,5 cm; 80 cm; average. Long flowering small-flowered variety. Already in the first year the bush forms a neat lilac ball. Or a cloud - someone like it better. Blooms "from the bottom to the top." By the way, recently appeared the Blue Sirin - it meets the same characteristics, only its flowers are painted in a sky-blue hue.
SANDRO BOTTICHELLI. Yu. A. Reperv, 1978; 4,5-4,8 cm; 75 cm; midwinter. Lilac without any admixtures, and at dusk it is soft blue, almost neon. Inflorescences large, round-conical. And blossoms very long, and cuttings easily. It is good as in flower beds, and in bouquets.
BLUE PARADISE. R. Oudolf, 1995; 3,7 cm; 90 cm; average. The most popular of all the blooming phloxes in the twilight. A beautiful bush with dark stems, grows rapidly. Shoots are strong, do not fall apart. Pretty resistant to powdery mildew. Udolph found this seedling in the beds of his friend, who grew flowers for cutting. What a luck!

Funny view of the phlox Misha, but only complex problems have to deal with it. First, like all phloxes, it is best to plant it separately, otherwise in August we risk infecting its neighbors with powdery mildew.
Secondly, it is variegated, that is, it does not combine with anything, except with lilac or white flowering plants. But on the other hand, it falls apart - and therefore must stand either alone and always “belted”, or inside a group of plants and be out of place. Natasha can replace it: the variety looks very well, only the petals have no corners, but the bush does not fall apart!

Despite the outward similarity of the flowers, Mishenka belongs to the panicled phlox varieties, and Natasha (formerly Sonata) belongs to the f. spotted. Misha blooms earlier.
