Pears - self-fertilized and self-fruit
How to plant pears - pollinators and self-fertilization
At us with the friend country sites are located in one СНТ. True, I became owner of land land much later. Therefore, at first he often turned to him, a former gardener, for advice, because he knew all our "tricks" not by hearsay.
One of his "efficient" (exactly in quotation marks, as it turned out later) advice was a recommendation not to spend money on the purchase of pear seedlings. He confidently asserted that, although pears grow in our area, they remain absolutely sterile. And as an example, he showed me two stumps in his garden - the remains of pears that had once been planted and cut down, fell into disgrace. He could not explain the reason, he only referred to "unsuitable conditions in our area."
I took his word for it, because I was then ignorant of gardening matters, and planted my garden with other fruit crops - apple trees, cherries and plums. In addition, indeed, there was not a single pear tree in our entire dacha street. In general, I happily forgot about my dream - to grow a tree in the garden covered with sweet aromatic pears.
And what was my amazement when a few years later, when I was driving around the once washed road, I turned into someone else's street, where I noticed a huge pear tree literally covered with fruits! I repeatedly returned to that site with the goal of finding out the name of this amazing variety that fructifies in our "inappropriate" terrain, but I never found the owners. And only after he shook up a lot of literature, I realized how "my FRIEND" was in the country business "experienced"!
It turned out that the conditions in our area are the most suitable for planting pears! For abundant fruiting of this culture, in addition to proper care, it took a little to choose for planting either self-fertilizing varieties, or self-fertilized in combination with a pollinator.
For example, my friend, instead of cutting down the adults in innocent trees, it was only necessary to plant another two varieties, the flowering period of which would coincide with the first.
Perhaps experienced gardening is as clear as a day, but for me then such characteristics of trees as fruitlessness and self-fertilization have become a real discovery.
After a while, I was able to completely dispel the myth of the "inappropriate area" for such an incomparable garden culture as a pear. Today, four beautiful trees grow on my site, which annually give us a generous harvest of juicy sweet fruits, - Lada, Augustow dew, in memory of Yakovlev and Chizhovskaya.
None of the varieties has disappointed me neither in terms of disease resistance and winter hardiness, nor in terms of yield and taste qualities.
Read many unflattering reviews about Chizhovskoy: they say, "outdated model" - the fruits are not tasty, but still have not noticed a single flaw in it! Pears ripen on it amicably and at the stage of full maturity turn out to be unmatched in taste - honey.

But if you overexpose them on a tree, then yes, they quickly lose their qualities and become "wadded". This does not happen in our country, we start processing them on time. There are also no complaints about the rest of the varieties: Lada and Pamyati Yakovleva are large, with fine-grained, soft, juicy and very fragrant pulp, and the August dew, although it gives smaller fruits, but they differ in more elastic, crisp pulp.
Wife every season comes up with new recipes for blanks from pears, but all the same
to eat fresh and to process such a large number of fruits does not work. That's why I share my surpluses with neighbors and friends with great pleasure.
And I advise novice summer residents to purchase a pear seedling, taking into account the degree of its "fruitfulness" and, if necessary, to buy a couple of pollinators to the favorite variety.

A few years ago, bought a seedling pear varieties Chizhovskaya. The tree has grown, yields fruits that are edible, until they reach full ripeness. And then the flesh becomes light brown, tasteless. Tell me, is this characteristic of the Chizhovskaya variety? Advise any summer variety of pears to make the flesh sweet, grainy, juicy.

So that next time not to make a mistake with the variety, buy seedlings in proven nurseries. From the pears of summer ripening, I can recommend the varieties Duhmyanaya, Zabava, Kudes-nitsa, Avgustovskaya dew, Allegro, Rossoshanskaya early, Petrovskaya.
- Mr. Rusha Chizhovskaya variety - one of the most popular among amateur gardeners. The fruit is sweet-sour, half-oily, quite juicy and melting in the mouth, the flesh is light yellow or almost white in color with a delicate delicate aroma.
It is likely that the unscrupulous seller lectured you a fake. Look at the photo, how you look at the fruit of the Chizhovskaya variety, and compare it with the pears that grow on your tree.

I'm going to plant a Chizhovskaya pear, but I don't know if I still need to buy a pollinator for it. There is nothing definite on this score on the Internet: some authors write that this variety can do without a pollinator, others - that it should be paired with Lada, Mramornaya or Severyanka, and there are those who claim that two should be planted at once. Chizhovskikh - and everything will be all right. And how should I really be? Tell me, dear gardeners.
