Plant roses: how to choose seedlings

How to choose quality roses seedlings - their signs and our advice
The most popular flower on the household plots is a rose. Surely many florists have already planned the purchase of new varieties. But how not to be mistaken and choose healthy quality seedlings? Pay attention to 5 main features.
CUTTING ROSE BEFORE PLACING
- У tea hybrid, rose floribunda and low-growing polyanthus roses leave branches with 3-4 kidneys
- У The braided roses of the Rambler group branches to be shortened to 30-35 cm
- The rest of the groups on the shoots left on 5-7 kidney
- Ground-cover roses are not cut at planting
1. RUNS
A good seedling should have at least 2-l of lignified shoots. They should be strong, strong, elastic to the touch and well branched. Ideally, if the plant 4 escape, which "look" in different directions. But such a rose is a rarity, because it is usually planted on one side.

2. BARK
The bark on the shoots should be a saturated green color, in plants of some varieties it has a uniform reddish-brown hue. Brown twigs, shriveled bark, most likely signal that the plant is dry. The seller can assure that the seedling will come to life if placed in a bucket of water for a day. But there is no guarantee. Nail a little scratch the bark at the top of the shoot: if the juice is released, and the wood under the bark will be light-colored - a seedling can be bought.
Bark spot (black, reddish-crimson, yellowish brown) is a sign of a sick or damaged pest of a rose. It even happens that the spots are only on one shoot, while others (1-2) are clean. Be on the alert: most likely, the whole plant is affected, just external signs showed up only on one shoot. Be sure to pay attention to the cortex and the site of vaccination - it should be uniform, do not exfoliate.
For roses ideal weakly acidic soil is considered - with the acidity level of 5,5-6,5
FACT: WEIGHT ROSES ARE WEARED WHILE SOIL WILL UP TO + 10 GRAD. IN THE MIDDLE BAND, THIS IS USUAL ON THE END OF APRIL-THE FIRST HALF OF MAY.
3. KIDNEYS
Kidneys on a good seedlings are asleep or barely penetrated. If there are no kidney stems at all, then such a plant may not wake up. The reason is in improper storage or transportation.
4. ROOTS
In healthy seedlings, the roots are well developed, they are strong, elastic, dark brown in color. If on the roots there are black spots, and in these places to the touch they are soft, then they are signs of rot. It's okay if there are not enough such places - cut the roots to a healthy part (light wood) at home.
Producers of roses often pack the roots of the seedlings in peat or rotting sawdust, which is wrapped with transparent polyethylene, and then put on a dark packaging bag. Ask to remove the packaging - check the peat to the touch (it should not be too wet or over-dried) and inspect the protruding roots. Often, through the polyethylene look white roots - then the rose is all right.
TIP: If the seedlings of roses have wilted, before planting at 2 an hour, soak their roots in water. Then lower the seedling in the hole so that the place of grafting was at 5-10 cm below ground level.
5. SIGNS OF LIFE
Roses go to garden centers and hypermarkets in February. In shops, the temperature is higher than normal, so the seedlings begin to grow. And at the same time, the nutrients accumulated by the roots are consumed, which weakens the plants.
If you really liked the variety, but you see that the seedling is already growing, choose the one whose shoots jumped out only at the top of the branches, and at the bottom sleep. And these stretched white-green shoots should be no more than 4 cm (if more - refrain from buying).
At home, shoot young shoots at the top of the branches. Do not be afraid - the rose buds will wake up later in the rose, and you'll still have to cut off the upper part before planting in the open ground. Seedling put on the bottom shelf of the refrigerator, covering with a transparent package. If the rose continues to produce new shoots, put it in a pot and put it on a glassed-in loggia with a plus temperature.
OUR REFERENCE
If you are going to plant roses on a site where before that roses also grew, change the soil to a depth of 40-50,

SPRING CARE OF ROSES: 4 MAIN STEPS
When the roses are fully opened, the sawdust, which usually falls asleep over the roots, is removed, and the soil is slightly loosened. Cut off the shoots growing in the depths of the bush in the plants, and also dry, black (they are frozen) and very thin.
After for the prevention of fungal infections, treat the soil under roses with a solution of Bordeaux's liquid (100 g per 10 L of water) or copper sulfate (150 g per 10l).
After 2-3 days scatter around each bush in dry form according to 2,5-3 g of ammonium nitrate, 4-5 g superphosphate and 1,5-2 g of potassium sulfate (and not potassium salt - this is important!).
Fertilizers slightly in the soil and pour (5-6 l water on the bush).
After a week, you can repeat the treatment of the soil with copper-containing preparations.

More than once I was convinced that at the end of winter it is still too early to purchase roses seedlings - they are difficult to store before planting. But when a beautiful picture looks at you beautiful, which is not yet in your collection, you can not refrain from buying. I'll tell you how I store plants.
In a refrigerator
Saplings without germs can be put on the refrigerator door (periodically moisten the substrate). If plants have sprouts, experts advise them to break off. I did so, but my cuttings after that still perished.
In the snowdrift
The ideal place for storage is a snowdrift. I put the seedlings in boxes, top them with lutrasil and bury it in the snow. And as it melts, I plant roses in the open ground. That the site on which the rosary is planned, had time to warm up and dry out, from it I shovel all snow. When planting wax, which covered the stems, I shoot only from the bottom of the plants (it will be in the ground). And the wax that remains on top, first protects the stems from drying out, sunburn. Then he will fall away. At an early planting plant I shelter lutrasilom (completely I clean it, when the threat of recurrent frosts passes).
In the mountains
It is not always possible to bury seedlings in the snow. Therefore, last year I planted roses in pots in early March. First, the stems were carefully cleaned of wax. She carefully freed the roots from the soil, cut off all the rotten ones, washed the rest in a slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate. Then she dipped the seedlings into the Zircon solution for 6 hours (according to the instructions). The soil for planting (peat mixture from the store) was spilled with a slightly pink solution of potassium permanganate. She put the pots on the glassed-in balcony and regularly sprayed them with water. Every 10 days, you can add Zircon to the water (according to the instructions). Since April, she began to open windows on the balcony - at first for a short time, and then generally kept it wide open. In May, she took out the seedlings to the site and transplanted them into the ground.

All, probably, saw the sale of roses of lemon yellow and tender green color. So, they can grow every gardener. Plant on the flower bed with white roses, or, as it is also called, the weed grass (to obtain yellow buds), or holly acut (for green buds). I pierce the branches of these plants with a knife and make longitudinal slits in them.
In these slots I insert the branches of roses and clamp them so that immediately behind the clamp the flower bud was located. The ends of the pink branches bend. The slit is pulled together with a piece of cotton cloth and tightly tied so that the wound does not dry and the juice continues to flow in the plant. When the kidneys go to growth, I remove the pink branches from the slits. Later, they will show buds of yellow or green color. The bush with roses of white, lemon and salad colors is unusual.

On the roses, shoots sometimes appear that do not give flowers. Especially in old varieties this happens. Often blind shoots appear due to the fact that the landing site was chosen incorrectly and the bushes do not have enough sun, or because of improper care: there is not enough food, there is not enough potassium phosphorus fertilizing.
It also happens that the sucking insects have weakened the shoot, and it is no longer able to plant flowering. You can try to stimulate a blind escape: lay it on the ground and pin it to it. You can also try to shorten, it also stimulates the laying of flower buds. Try different options and you will find a working one.
