Deutzia blooms only on the lower shoots. How to fix the situation? When is the best time to prune shrubs?

      — I can assume that you have deutzia rough or grandiflora growing. Both species are more often found in gardens in the middle zone, but do not overwinter well. Freezing of branches begins at temperatures from -25 degrees and below, although even a bush that is completely frozen in winter usually grows well over the summer and manages to bloom. Of course, abundant flowering, as in the south, will not happen - only on branches that have overwintered under the snow. Remove frozen shoots in the spring, after the snow melts. You can trim dry branches when the leaves begin to bloom and you can clearly see which ones have overwintered and which ones have not.

To get a more lush flowering bush of these species next year, hill up its base for the winter, bend the shoots to the ground, cutting off the immature parts, and sprinkle with clean fallen leaves or cover with spruce branches.
Or cut out all broken, dry branches growing inside the crown, shorten healthy ones by half and build a frame of slats around the bush, covering it with agrospan with a density of 110 g/sq.m and leaving 10 cm between the plant and the frame for protection during sudden temperature fluctuations. For the future, I recommend choosing dwarf species
      — Deutzia graceful and Deutzia pink, up to 80 cm high, for which a layer of snow cover is sufficient for successful wintering. It is better to plant them in areas well protected from the wind and sunny.

The rough action bush began to bloom badly. Few gives new shoots, and even those are thin and weak. Maybe share it?
