CULTIVATION, CUTTING, LANDING, CARE AND COVERAGE
Snow-white inflorescences of action appear in the height of summer. For the refined beauty of the flowers, it is compared to hydrangea and chubushnik, which are her relatives. Rare in the garden gardens actions will please their bloom for many years if they create favorable conditions.
The action belongs to the family of Hydrangea and is named after the Dutch merchant Johann van Dayts. Most species (known more 50) are thermophilic and grow in the mountainous regions of China, Japan and Korea. Only some actions withstand frosty frosts and are able to blossom annually in Russian gardens.
In the forests of the Far East, on the banks of the Amur, a beautiful densely branched shrub grows about 1,5 m high - small-flowering action, which is also called action of the Amur. On the shoots with gray bark, oval-elliptical leaves up to 6 cm, pointed at the apex and serrate along the edge, are opposite each other.
From the age of 3-4 years in June, the bush abundantly blossoms, issuing a subtle fragrance and attracting bees for pollination. Small white flowers with a diameter of 1,2 mm with 5 petals are collected in corymbose inflorescences. Calyx, fruits (hipantii) and leaves on both sides densely covered with small stellate pubescence. This species has good winter hardiness and does not need winter shelter.
Also smoothly tolerates winter conditions, the action is smooth, outwardly similar to Amur, but slightly higher - up to 2 m high. The leaves are more elongated, oblong-elliptical, almost lanceolate. Leaves from below, calyx and fruits without pubescence, which is why the appearance is called smooth. It also blooms in June starting from the age of 7, white flowers are elegant and fragrant. In the nature of the Far East, the plant is found on the forest edges, but it is extremely rare, therefore it is listed in the Red Book of Russia.
Extremely beautiful action rough (or rough) originally from China and Japan. Shrub height about 2,5 m, with elongated-ovate leaves, covered with star-covered pubescence. It is distinguished by narrow paniculate inflorescences up to 12 cm, appearing on the shoot tips at the end of July. During 2-3 weeks, wonderful flowers up to 2 cm in diameter adorn the bush. Although they are devoid of flavor, they are conquered by the whiteness or the fern-colored color and as if by a porcelain sculpture. This action is superior to the previous types of decorative, but inferior to them in winter hardiness. If the bush is left without a winter shelter, it will freeze above the snow cover.

Charmingly elegant, but require attention and care of its variety. Very attractive varieties with double flowers - Candidissima with pure-white elongated inflorescences, and also Captivity и Roseau Plena with pale pink flowers.
Less winter-hardy varieties that are brought from Polish and German nurseries are Pride of Rochester, Turbilon Rudge and Godsal Pink with double white-and-pink flowers, and a variety Waters, terry flowers of which are surrounded on the outside by carmine petals. Unfortunately, these varieties are frozen to the level of snow, if you do not take care of shelter. Significantly less common in the culture of the action of Mar-morta, Aureo Variegata and Punctata with leaves in white specks and specks.
ACTION - VARIETY FOR ANY TASTE
In June, flowers The action is elegant, coming from Japan. The shrub is compact, with a height of about 1 m, with a rounded crown. White flowers up to 2 cm in diameter are collected in inflorescences-panicles up to 10 cm. Oblong-lanceolate leaves with pointed at the tip and saw edges densely cover the shoots. In severe winters without shelter, it freezes to a level of snow. Especially decorative is its Aurea form with golden yellow leaves, rare in Russia.
When crossing an elegant and small-flowered action, a garden hybrid was obtained - the Lemoine action. Shrub low (up to 1 m), with arched shoots and beautiful gray-green leaves. The flowers are large (up to 2,5 cm in diameter), collected in a pyramidal inflorescence, blooms profusely and at the same time with an elegant action. Needs good shelter, then winters without damage. After trimming, it grows quickly. Also from action graceful received action pink with lilac flowers and oval leaves. Wonderful white flowers with a diameter of 2,5 cm, packed in pink buds, in the action of long-leaved from Western China. The shrub 1,5 m high has elongated leaves, pubescent from the underside. It blooms in the second half of July.
The garden hybrid is unique in its beauty - the action is magnificent, or magnificent, obtained by crossing the action with a rough and Vilmorena. Shrub height of 1-2 m, with long and sprawling shoots. From the middle of June to the first ten days of July, the tips of the shoots are loaded with numerous dense brushes of pure white terry flowers, especially in varieties Superba, Formosa and Erecta. In our country they did not spread, as in the middle zone of Russia only shoots that were below the snow level bloom, and after a very severe winter bushes can bloom only after a season.
For action, a mild warm climate is most favorable, so an open sunny area, where there can be sharp changes from heat to cold, is not so desirable. A semi-shady garden is suitable for her to protect herself from dry air and remain in diffused light under the crown.
large trees. Shrubs should be protected from cold northern winds, so they are placed on the southern side of the building or in another secluded place where they will amaze with abundant flowering.
Action prefers fresh fertile soils, loves clay patches with moderate moisture. For bushes unacceptably close groundwater occurrence. It can tolerate poorer soils, but the blossom will not be so magnificent.
For action, the optimal spring planting is in the period after thawing the soil and before the buds open. Planting pits dig 35–40 cm deep, and on poor soils 15–20 cm deeper. Fill them with fertile soil with the addition of mineral fertilizers. The approximate rate of fertilizer in each pit is 1 bucket of compost and 100 g of nitrophoska. The nutrition area of one adult action bush is 0,6-1,5 square meters. m. Bushes are planted at a distance of 1,5 m from each other and must be watered.
The easiest way to propagate the action is with green cuttings. Cuttings are cut in July in cool weather 10-15 cm long with two internodes, large leaf blades are truncated in half. The upper cut is made over a pair of kidneys, the lower one is oblique. For root formation, the lower end of the cutting is powdered with Kornevin. Boxes or flower containers are filled with light nutrient soil, half mixed with river sand.
A layer of sand of thickness 2-3 cm is poured on top. Plant the cuttings slightly inclined, deepening into the ground at 0,5. See Boxes put in greenhouses and greenhouses, covered with polyethylene film, regularly watered. Before the cuttings are carried to the open area, they are gradually hardened. Rooted cuttings can be transferred to the ground, but in the first winter they need shelter with a leaf or coniferous lapnika. In the spring they are planted to grow.
The action is multiplied and lignified cuttings (but the survival rate will be lower), layers, root offsprings, seeds. It is also possible to divide the bush. A strongly overgrown shrub is excavated and divided along with the root system on the 2-3 part. At the same time, cut off old thickened branches. Planting material is not allowed to dry out and as soon as possible planted in a new place in the open ground.
ASSIGNING A CARING FLOWER
COVERING OF THE DANCE ON WINTER.
The easiest way is to mulch the near-trunk circle of the bush with wood chips, a layer of peat, and in autumn, fallen leaves or straw. For small bushes, you can use cardboard boxes, boxes, branches of coniferous spruce branches and non-woven covering material. More heat-loving types and varieties of action should be wrapped for the winter with burlap or heavy kraft paper, top with modern covering material (lutrasil, spanbond, etc.) and wrapped with a rope so that the plant does not open when the gusty wind. If you use only one non-woven material, then under it formed an increased humidity. It is important that the shelter does not reach the ground and that the lower part of the crown is ventilated. On warm spring days, already in April, one must not be late with the removal of shelter, which will slow down the vegetation beginning in late April or early May, and limit the growth and development of action.
CUTTING THE DANCE.
One of the most important measures to care for the action is the annual sanitary pruning, after which in the mass appear young and strong shoots, ready for flowering. For cutting, sharp and clean tools are needed: secateurs, trellis scissors and a garden knife. Places of large sections are desirable to process with garden fumes.
BOTTLENING AND CONNECTION.
With sufficient soil moisture, shrubs long and beautifully bloom. Especially in need of watering young plants in hot summer periods. Approximate irrigation norm for an adult shrub 30-40 l / kv. m. Watering is mainly in the evening. If the autumn was dry, it is important to water well the flowering varieties of action in the second half of October.
In spring, under each bush, you need to make nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers in 10-15 g for 1 sq. M. m. Potash fertilizers are applied to 15 g per 1 sq. m. m only once in 2-3 in the autumn, they contribute to better wintering of heat-loving varieties and increase resistance to fungal diseases. Useful for shrubs and watering slurry diluted in 5-6 times, or bird droppings divorced 10 times. For the summer summer top dressings are effective, especially before flowering, they can be carried out on cloudy days, when the soil is sufficiently moistened. However, in early August, they stop, so that the shoots retard growth and prepare for the winter.
ACTION - GROWING, PLANTING AND CARE - ADVICE AND FEEDBACK
GENTLE BEAUTY DEICIA
The charming deytion shrub is undeservedly in the shadow of its hydrangea relative. But now very interesting hybrids have appeared, the beauty of which is amazing.
LANDING
Plant the action in a well-lit area, protected from the wind. The shrub is undemanding to the soil, but prefers drained, loose, fertile soil. The ideal substrate for an oriental beauty is compost soil, humus and sand (2: 2: 1). The depth of the landing hole should be at least 50 cm. Put a layer of drainage on the bottom (you can sand), and then add 200-300 g of slaked lime and a little ash.
CARE
In the summer, mulch the near-stem circle of action to retain moisture in the soil. In autumn, carefully dig with a pitchfork, and loosen the soil in early spring. In the first 3-5 years after planting, be sure to cover the shrub for the winter.
In the first year after planting, regularly water the action, starting from the second year - as the soil dries up, and then - only in hot, dry summers without rain. Every year in the spring, when the shoots begin to grow, feed the oriental beauty with mineral fertilizers (according to the instructions).
CUTTING
As a rule, the first two years, all branches are shortened by 2/3. Cut off faded branches in time to developed buds or young lower shoots, otherwise they will spoil the flowering picture next year. If necessary, even out vigorous shoots that have broken out of the desired crown contour during the season. Remove self-seeding regularly.
Once every 5 years, carry out rejuvenating pruning “on a high stump” (from 40 to 100 cm), while cutting out all dry branches.
DRAWING
In June, cut the cuttings of the action rough, graceful and long-leaved. The optimal soil substrate is a mixture of peat and sand in equal parts. The use of root formation stimulants (Kornevin, Epin) will increase the chances of success.
When buying a seedling, be sure to check with the seller whether the plant you like can safely endure the winter in your area. For example, pink action is quite frost-resistant, and large-flowered action is afraid of cold weather.

Deutzia blooms only on the lower shoots. How to fix the situation? When is the best time to prune shrubs?
#
— I can assume that you have deutzia rough or grandiflora growing. Both species are more often found in gardens in the middle zone, but do not overwinter well. Freezing of branches begins at temperatures from -25 degrees and below, although even a bush that is completely frozen in winter usually grows well over the summer and manages to bloom. Of course, abundant flowering, as in the south, will not happen - only on branches that have overwintered under the snow. Remove frozen shoots in the spring, after the snow melts. You can trim dry branches when the leaves begin to bloom and you can clearly see which ones have overwintered and which ones have not.
To get a more lush flowering bush of these species next year, hill up its base for the winter, bend the shoots to the ground, cutting off the immature parts, and sprinkle with clean fallen leaves or cover with spruce branches.
Or cut out all broken, dry branches growing inside the crown, shorten healthy ones by half and build a frame of slats around the bush, covering it with agrospan with a density of 110 g/sq.m and leaving 10 cm between the plant and the frame for protection during sudden temperature fluctuations. For the future, I recommend choosing dwarf species
— Deutzia graceful and Deutzia pink, up to 80 cm high, for which a layer of snow cover is sufficient for successful wintering. It is better to plant them in areas well protected from the wind and sunny.

The rough action bush began to bloom badly. Few gives new shoots, and even those are thin and weak. Maybe share it?
