Growing chernushka onions in the Moscow region - planting care, tips
GROWING LUKE IN MOSCOW - MY ADVICE
Sometimes you can hear the opinion that under the winter, the bow is planted only by desperate farmers. Or maybe, on the contrary, the most practical? After all, they do something with a distant, but true sight.
Although a lot has already been said by readers about growing onions, I hope my story about how I care for plants and preserve the harvest will also be useful. So, in the fall, at the same time as garlic and on pre-prepared beds (that is, abundantly fertilized with humus and ash), I plant large, strong bulbs.
Yes, yes, I came to the conclusion that the landing should be made at the end of the season, because if it is done in the spring, then the seeds (black-legged) do not always have time to ripen, because the weather in recent years has become generally uncontrollable. And do not be afraid that the onion can freeze or rot, it is fine to winter, even spring return frosts are not terrible for him.
But already at the very beginning of the season the onion is full of strength, gives good strong arrows, which I tie to pegs stuck in the ground so that they do not break. With regard to nursing, it is the easiest: once I loosen, I will make two or three weeding, I will water once a week, that's all my onion work. As I see that the arrows have turned yellow, I immediately start collecting seeds. I cut everything off and hang it in the greenhouse to ripen the ridge for a week or two to three. Then I hull, sift and stack the seeds in cotton bags, where they lie quietly to me until the new season.
And in the spring I sow seeds, and I place them densely, so that the blackie grows not too large. I spoil the planting and watering as necessary (if the heat comes in summer, then I do not regret the water). And Chernushka also grows well and does not require special care. When the feather begins to dry up, I start cleaning: I dig it out, immediately cut off all the excess and put it to dry in the garage. In the same place I keep my trophies: on the concrete floor I spread out the old fur coat, I put plywood boxes on it, into which I put onions, and on top I cover them with old warm blankets. And the bow rests superb under such conditions. The main thing is that he does not freeze from below and from above, and so, in itself, the cold to him, as they say, is in no way at all.

In early spring, I go through it: I place large paper on the pen (which does not fit in the garden, I postpone and plant it already in the middle of summer), and I put the medium and small on the head a little later.
And in all cases, before the very landing of the bulb, I dry it dry and warm it up, laying it on the heating boiler (but it is possible and simply on the battery). And then there will not be a single arrow. At me personally after such preparation the bow costs, as a wood, on this bed even weeds do not grow.
And after planting, sprinkle the beds with coarse salt. What for? But it will gradually begin to dissolve in the soil, it will turn out to be a kind of saline solution, which the onion fly is very afraid of. In my opinion, such a simple trick is the best way to deal with this pest. Well, further care here is not too burdensome for me - all the same, not too frequent loosening, weeding and watering. And I don’t know the problems with the onion. In addition, I always use only my seeds.
I also want to write a little about flowers. After all, what a summer residence without them? You look at the flowerbed - immediately the mood rises, and let us pace with the uplift in the beds. And after the shock work, you again admire them, and fatigue falls off the shoulders by itself. Therefore, my flowers grow everywhere, even in the garden. Most of all I like asters and fragrant lilies. And just with the latter one unforgettable story is connected. One fine day, watching the lilies, I saw such a miracle and called it “Flower Waltz”.
One morning, early in the morning, I opened the greenhouse and on the way back to the house I sat down beside the flower bed with lilies and thought, and suddenly I saw how all the buds almost flinched at once, opened a little and from them stretched white tight pistil stars. And each pistil began to rotate rapidly, the sepals flew away, like on springs, and the pale gold crowns resembling a spindle appeared.
The pistils continued to spin, and finally the flowers, which looked like large cups of golden transparent porcelain, opened with a strange whisper, as if someone sighed unknowingly, and I was enveloped in an inexpressible fragrance. I was so amazed at what I saw that I simply petrified. Then I began to closely monitor the lilies, but I did not see such a "waltz" anymore. Probably, such a miracle can be admired only once in life, when the flowers want to thank you.

NOTE: THE BOWL IS BREATHED
I'll share some methods of growing onion-sowing. First I dig a shallow groove along the bed with shallow grooves, fill them with humus and fall asleep with the ground taken out earlier. And after that, small patches are obtained on the patch, into which I stick the bulbs. To plant them, I cook them. I decontaminate from the onion fly larvae in a strong saline solution (400 g per 2 L of water) for 10 hh then rinse and leave it wet for a few more hours to start sprouting.
And now I'll tell you how I keep the sekok. Dug out the onion in a spilled form before the cold in the attic of the bath, then pour it into a plastic bucket, close it with a film in two or three layers, press it with a rope around the bucket and put everything in a hole dug in the kitchen garden with a depth of about 80 cm. grapes or dried tops. Place under the pit I choose where the snow is not blown out by the wind, where water does not stagnate. And in the spring, as the earth rolls back, I dig a bucket, take it to the city and pour out the sevok near the battery. So the bow is well preserved and does not shoot.
I warn you: you can not store onions in hermetically sealed jars or bottles - suffocate and will not rise, although the appearance of the onions will be good. I already had such a bitter experience ...
