Tale of how a dacha cabbage was shod
It seems to many that the usual "gentlemanly set" of crops in the garden is just what a simple farmer needs to be completely happy. We do not need delights when the time and energy, as they say, are at a loss. But what is considered frills? Let’s talk about this.
Where is our pride?
Somehow it happened to us, gardeners, truck farmers, that if we grow cabbage, then mostly white-headed. No doubt, this beauty is really needed for us, and quite rightly some readers write that without it, the table is empty. All this is true. But only who said that she alone is able to decorate our menu and correct our health? What about other types of cabbage? There is also a leaf, for example, Brussels, Beijing, kohlrabi. Apparently, some of the summer residents nevertheless rasproboval them and realized what's what.
But little, very little! Looking at these ARTICLES, there is a feeling that their authors are like white crows among millions of summer residents. But we all want to live at least a hundred years, and even pamper ourselves with various useful and tasty dishes.
I guess that ordinary people are afraid to grow such a cabbage: they say, why should I need extra zamorochki with "foreigners", when I can hardly keep up with basic plantings? But why are our truck farmers who can overcome any difficulties, suddenly become so shy?
Once I even heard that such vegetables are easier to buy in a store. Yes, the fact of the matter is that in the store prices for it bite. In addition, they are constantly increasing! So I thought at one time: if it’s difficult to buy the best types of cabbage for the family budget, so maybe start to grow this so-called exotic itself? And from the "hopelessness" I decided to try. So, believe me, you do not need to imagine yourself as a left-handed person who is faced with an impossible task - to shoe a flea. Nothing complicated in growing these types of cabbage

To begin with, I would like to give a brief description of different types of cabbage and, in view of their experience, tell how to grow them.
Tourists visiting the countries of the southeast do not cease to be surprised that the deep old people there are not inferior in strength and endurance to the young. And in private conversations, these elders claim that their happy longevity is due to kimchi. What kind of remedy is this healing? Maybe it’s not without ginseng? At least, we have such legends about this root that books can already be composed of them. But no. It turns out that kimchi is only being prepared. .. from kale! For example, Beijing seasoned with sweet pepper and daikon.
And in China it is generally sour, adding garlic and pepper. What is so valuable leafy cabbage? In that it contains much more, in comparison with the white-
cabbage, vitamins and useful mineral salts, which promote proper metabolism in the human body.
Okay, say, a good tale turned out. But the main thing is not gu-gu. What is happening with agricultural technology? But nothing, everything is in order. There are no special secrets in comparison with the cultivation of a beloved white-headed or the same daikon by everyone here: in the same way, different varieties have different planting dates, they behave in the same way with a long daylight (they can go into color). The only thing - kale should not be grown through seedlings, as she really does not like transplanting. At least, this method did not impress me. It seems to me that planting seeds immediately in the ground on warm, well-tilled beds with shelter in arches is much more effective.
At the same time, I do not advise and densely plant such cabbage in the hope that then, during thinning, it will be possible to "superfluous" plants to spread to other beds, thus increasing the planting area. The plot will really expand, but the "exhaust" for the harvest is unlikely to be appropriate.
However, this is my point of view. Maybe someone, on the contrary, will succeed with seedlings: after all, there are no clearly established instructions in the garden once and for all. But for sure, I’ll say from experience that the best planting scheme looks like this: between plants of 40 cm, between rows of 50. The usual care: weeding, loosening (in no case can be spud!) And abundant watering under the roots.
I want to warn you right away that all kinds of kale respect slugs, you can hardly see - instead of lace leaves. Therefore, after watering, I always sprinkle ash around the plants around the plants, and in the aisles I lay out boards, from under which I scoop up these creatures with scoops in the morning. Of course, it will not do without a whitefly, but after all all the measures to combat it are familiar - choose for every taste and according to your abilities.
6 REASONS TO GROW BROKKOLS
But the most interesting of all the "exotic" cabbage is broccoli. Why? And now I will tell you.
1. It is the most productive, because it has the ability, after cutting heads on the central shoots, to form a new crop even on the stepson. In the sense that from the sinuses of each leaf grow small little kochanchiki. Is not this a natural conveyor?
2. Broccoli is not particularly thermophilic and normally grows even at 16 °, which, you must agree, is very important and convenient for us. Moreover, it even withstands small frosts (-7 ° so it is for certain, it was personally convinced of it). But this cabbage is sensitive to the raised temperature: in hot weather its heads grow so quickly that you will not have time to blink an eye, as plants already will blossom. Therefore, for planting broccoli, I always choose a place so that at noon the sun's rays do not reach it. In the extreme case, I build over the beds simple unpaved shelters with white covering material.
3. Broccoli is rather undemanding to the soil, but at the same time it does not tolerate acidification, it needs more nitrogen than any other cabbage, especially at the end of the growing season. I prepare the ground for it from the fall, digging all over the bayonet with a spade. And in the spring I make a bucket of humus (or compost) and a half-liter ash bank at 1 square. m, again digging (but already legonechko) and level.
4. For those who can not live without fuss with seedlings, I am informing: this cabbage can be grown and in this way. But you need to know that broccoli is a precocious crop: after planting the plants in the soil, the crop can be obtained after 40-50 days (i.e. 70-80 days after sowing the seeds). Yes, I almost forgot, by the time of planting, broccoli seedlings should have 5-6 leaves. I follow this strictly: overgrowing adversely affects the size of the heads.
5. Broccoli more than other types of cabbage is resistant to diseases and pests. In addition, its heads do not require darkening.
6. Broccoli heads, count - ready-made natural multivitamins: they contain vitamins A, B1, AT2, РР, С, К, and also salts of potassium, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium. And by the amount of protein it exceeds asparagus, spinach, sugar corn and sweet potato. Amino acids and protein in it so much that in this she is not inferior even to beef. In short, broccoli is the best dietary product in the world! It seems to me that this is difficult to challenge.
CARE FOR BROKKOLS
With regard to the characteristics of care, then first of all I will note that it is a very large vodohleb. I focus my attention on the word "very". In my experience I was convinced that this cabbage will be satisfied with watering only when the soil is soaked with moisture for at least 15-20 cm.
Troublesome? Yes, there is such a thing. But such an expense (it’s clear that you don’t run into buckets here, you will either have to dig a well and install a pump in it, or connect to a water supply system in SNT) more than pays off. In addition, speaking of abundant watering, I do not mean that they need to be carried out every day - twice a week is enough. But only so that everything is accurate! Broccoli is punctual in this sense.
Ask, and how to deal with it, if the summer was rainy? And still water, but every two days, be sure to loosen the soil around the plants so that their roots can breathe freely. And to improve the yield and the quality of the heads, before inserting them I apply to the soil either a solution of the mullein (1: 10) or urea (30 g per Yule of water).
STILL FORWARD!
With good care, on the 70-100th day after sowing seeds, large heads of dark green color, weighing 600 g or more, are formed. But at the same time I was convinced that chasing more solid sizes is not worth it - you can generally stay with your nose. Harvesting must be done in a timely manner for two reasons: firstly, the heads in this case will be tender and tasty (I guess that those who did not like broccoli tried to deceive nature), and secondly, they can go out of color.
It is better to cut them off early in the morning, with dew, or late in the evening - in this case they do not fade longer. I simply do not recommend storing heads in the refrigerator: they become flabby from this, turn yellow, most importantly, lose their signature taste. It is best to disassemble the head immediately after cutting into inflorescences, put it in a bag and place in the freezer. In frozen form, cabbage does not lose its taste and healthy qualities and can be stored even until a new crop.
And more: it is most useful to eat broccoli in fresh form on an empty stomach.
That's all. Broccoli cabbage, I think, should take a worthy place in our plots, because this is the surest tested against premature old age! I note that I'm not an agronomist, I just really love the land and work on it. I come from Siberia, although I've been living in the Volga region for 60 for years. Actually, I am a child of war and have already changed the eighth decade. But I do not fall for difficulties: it's hard, of course, but I process the site myself (although not all already).
That there are no helpers nearby now, I’m not upset. On the contrary, I am proud of them: my son, a geophysicist, works in the Far North on new gas fields. The grandchildren apparently inherited a piece of Siberian character: they received higher education, everyone works successfully and does without any guardianship from the parents. So to you, dear farmers who love to work on the land, I turn now: well, who, if not ourselves, will help ourselves? We didn’t cope with such difficulties! ADD TO COLORED CABBAGE
It is better not to think up
I want to tell you about cauliflower, as it is rarely written about. Apparently, not everyone knows that, for health reasons, it can give a hundred points ahead to all other garden crops. Well, I think, they are afraid of growing it, believing that they will not cope with complex agrotechnics.
So, in fact, it can not be called a capricious (in the same tomatoes, for example, kooky much more). I grow varieties Baldo (early maturity), Balboa, Goodman (mid-term) and Spywalker (average ripening period), which are very unpretentious even for our difficult conditions (capricious summer, frequent high water spring, constant temperature changes), good yield and attractive appearance.

I grow all the seedlings.
Since this cabbage does not tolerate acidification, I prepare the soil for it with ash and humus, and I feed the sprouts 7-10 days after picking with a biohumus solution that contains everything that is necessary for the good growth of young plants. I dig the beds under the cabbage with a shovel, and add a handful of ash and humus to the holes. Landing pattern - 30 × 50 cm.
As the cabbage grows, I do three top dressings. The first one - a week after disembarking at a permanent place, introducing ammonium nitrate (20 g per bucket) or slurry (1: 5). The second top dressing - two weeks after the first, I breed 30 g of ammonium nitrate, 20 g of superphosphate and 80 g of potassium sulfate in 10 l of water. And I do the third top dressing at the beginning of head formation - with fermented grass with the addition of ash.
I water the cabbage depending on the weather, but do not allow the drying out of the soil. At the very first irrigation, I consume water of 10 liters per 1 sq. Km. m beds, and in subsequent (when the cabbage will confidently grow) - 20 l each, in addition, during the growth period of the heads, I water the beds with sprinkling to moisten the air. By the way, after tying the heads I isolate them from direct sunlight, covering them with broken leaves. After harvesting, I chop all the tops and stumps with a shovel and bury them here, on the bed, the soil in the spring becomes loose, a lot of earthworms live in it.
