LEAVES WITH A SMELL OF THE SEA OR SAMARA APRICOT
Continuation of the "apricot" theme (moreover, from the author mentioned in one of the previous articles). You can, of course, not experiment - plant potatoes year after year and enjoy. Only then, in your country house will never smell the sea ...
SAMARA WALNUT - A GIFT FOR FUTURE GRANDS
Today I want to share with dear readers a story about walnuts. Our neighbor, Valentina, occasionally comes to visit and admire flowers (I have only 47 roses of varieties), a garden pond with nymphs and various novelties. Says: "I come to you with a revision."
And on the day of the next “revision” I remembered that one of our novelties had not yet been shown to her. And led her to the walnut. Near the tree we had a very "meaningful" conversation.
- And here we have a walnut.
- What other nut? He does not grow with us!
- This is not growing for you, but for us - please.
“No, it cannot be!” He generally does not grow in our area.
- But how does it not grow? Here he is, right before your eyes!
Yes, four years ago, my husband Andrei and I planted a walnut seedling - a small twig. And this year 14 nuts were tied up on it (we counted). We hope that our future grandchildren will harvest in buckets. Well, or at least kilograms.
I want to say right away that in the second year of the nut's life in winter, very severe frosts hit, and the top froze in it. In the spring, having seen the blackened lifeless crown, we decided to simply trim it and form not a tree, but a bush. In general, a walnut is a tall tree that requires a lot of space. Therefore, we were not particularly upset: the formation of a bush is still preferable in a small cottage. The photo shows that we connected the lower branches - it is painfully sprawling bush.
In the third year of life, our little nut decided that it wanted to live, and actively set to work. And this year the miracle finally happened: the fruits appeared! And you could easily show the neighbor a “novelty.”
Ours is not ours
Unfortunately, the name of the variety is not known. The husband acquired a walnut sapling in our Samara Botanical Garden and didn’t even take an interest in the variety: type, nut - it is also a nut in Africa. I must say right away that we took care of it to a minimum: in spring and summer - watering, in late August - feeding with ash.
Landing was made in the spring. We plant all saplings (both trees and bushes) as follows: the husband digs a hole of such a size that the roots fit there freely. We do not add any fertilizers, just pour water abundantly. At this landing is over. True, we must admit that our land is very good, we always give minimal ones to the garden and the garden.
In winter we didn’t hide him. Perhaps this is wrong, but the husband has a strict principle: if the plant is capricious, it means that it is not “ours” and we will not dance on it. We harbor roses only with a single layer spunbond, and we can only insulate the trees even more in our thoughts!
By the way, the young leaves of the walnut were happy to feast on the leaf-maker (seen in the photo). And we hoped that the leaves with iodine (walnut contains iodine) do not like pests! It was necessary to sprinkle once with a store remedy for leaf-eating insects.
I read a lot about the fact that under this tree nothing will grow. However, I have just under the nut a row of beets - growing as if nothing had happened. In the fall we plan to trim the upper growths of the nut, to continue the formation of the bush.
“Pampering,” one of the readers will say, “there is nothing for them to do — grow a walnut in a summer house in the Samara Region.” And we are interested. We love to experiment. And a plot of 10 acres it allows you to ... And how fragrant are the leaves of the nut, if you rub them in your palms! They smell of the sea! So those who wish can safely plant a walnut in our region and similar regions. Is growing!
And finally, I want to write more about this: unfortunately, I do not sell strawberry seedlings. Catastrophically not enough time. Therefore, I simply dig strawberry mustache for those relatives and friends who themselves come to our country house. My husband and I are young, hard-working people, we are at the cottage only on weekends. Hope for understanding.
I wish all summer residents success and joy! Thanks for the interesting articles and stories.

Walnuts with walnuts do it yourself
Walnut milk is a wonderful restorative! Soak 120 g of walnuts (kernels) in water for 10 hours, then drain the water, and knead the kernels in a mortar. Then we fill in chopped nuts with 1 liter of milk, insist 4 hours, then boil for 20 minutes, stirring constantly. Add salt, sugar or honey to taste.
A small handful of walnuts contains many useful substances: vitamins, minerals, essential oils, organic acids. But remember that walnuts are a high-calorie product and should only be consumed in moderation. The composition of nuts also has a unique group of antioxidants that reduce the risk of prostate cancer.
