I want to share how I am relatively cheap (and early!) growing young potatoes.
We have a small garden near the house, enough only for the most necessary vegetables. Well, there are also pears, apple trees, peaches, cherries, cherries, apricots, plums, currants, raspberries, many flowers and 16 grape varieties on the trellis. Therefore, we do not plant potatoes, nowhere. But I want a young potato! So, for the winter we buy 4-5 nets of potatoes, we usually take, as the sellers say, Bellarozu - it is large, pink, and its sprouts are only at the top.

And here I am, when I cook, cut these shoots with pulp with a layer of 2-3 cm, take a shallow plastic box, cover it with a film so as not to leak, and pour a layer of moistened sawdust (5-6 cm).
I put these cut pieces, powdered with ash, directly on the sawdust (closer to each other) and sprinkle it on top with the same wet sawdust. Having finished the first layer, I lay the second and put the box in the corridor or on a warm veranda, even in the kitchen - in general, where there is a place.
I start these procedures immediately after the New Year, in two months the shoots are pulled out on 4-5, or even on 6-8, see
and acquire a rich root system. And already at the beginning of March, when the earth warms up, I take out the boxes outside for two days so that the sprouts get used to the sun. On the dug up beds I make a hoe with a groove deep on the bayonet of a shovel, every 60-70 cm I put a handful of onion husks and ash, and I spread my fluffy lumps on them. Between them - two grains of corn. Again, I make a second furrow with a hoe, from which I carefully grab the ground from the first, as if hilling the stolons of fluffy lumps with leaves. Then I also plant a third furrow, put small arcs and cover with any covering material from return frosts.
A week later, the potatoes start to grow together, in April it blooms, and in May we are already digging up new potatoes! It’s undermining - we select large, then water, and small grows further.
