Found a family garlic. Grew up, unlike usual, without flaws. It differs from the usual one in that it is much higher, and the stems-leaves are very large, long. Convenient in planting: it grows in clusters without harming the crop.

    Family garlic: myth or reality?
I heard about family garlic, but none of my acquaintances have heard of this. Is this a publicity stunt or does it really exist? Does it make sense to grow such?

      - Family is not a variety of garlic, but a way of growing it. The main difference is that you plant regular spring garlic, but not with chives, but with whole heads. In fact, the technology does not differ much from the standard one. The only difference is that as a result, a group of heads grows, usually smaller than usual (but there are more of them). And you need to dig out such garlic not individually, but as a whole group (family) using a pitchfork.

In October, before the onset of persistent cold weather, it's time to plant winter garlic. Prepare the bed a week before planting so that the soil settles a little. On the day of planting, soak the teeth in a pink solution of potassium permanganate for 2-3 hours. After planting, mulch the bed with straw or humus.

There are enough people who want to buy family garlic, but I want to share advice: to grow larger heads, plant it through 15-20 see
The last five years I’ve been planting second-years from bulbs - Harvest strong, heads beautiful, well kept. I select the heads with 3-4 teeth and plant them in a row through 20 cm in a staggered pattern, row spacing by 40 cm. On July 15 I dig out the garlic-year-old from bulbs, 700 pieces. I plant them in the winter.
And one more tip: if you still have cloves of garlic in the spring, plant them - there will be no shooter, and do not dig out in the fall, just cut the stem near the ground, and in the fall you will harvest a good crop. Just plant less often!

Crop of garlic depends on the variety and care. Our garlic: scales dark purple, very sharp, does not freeze. But we cover with a fern: it is light and soft, soft, sprouts easily break through it, in the spring I do not pick it up for a long time, until the garlic grows on 15 cm. Then I rake it in the aisles, it keeps moisture.
I have been planting garlic, one might say, all my life, and I have come to the conclusion: there is no need to plant it deeply, and he does not like the strong sun.

    Diatomite for beds
I read that the beds can be filled with diatomite. What is this substance? What can replace it?

      - Diatomite is a soil disintegrant, which also helps to improve its water and air permeability, slightly reduces its acidity. It is a rock with silicon in its composition, soft and loose in structure. In people, diatomite is called mountain flour. Add to the beds with dense, lumpy soil at the rate of 1 bucket per 1 sq.m. But even for loose soil, this improver will not be superfluous, although it needs less - 0,5 buckets per 1 sq. M.

As a baking powder instead of diatomite in the same doses, you can use river sand, wood ash, or crushed to dust chalk.

To get the maximum yield of spring garlic, before planting split teeth leave on 30 minutes in a weak solution of potassium permanganate or ash (1 tablespoon on 1 liters of boiling water, leave to cool, drain). Then wrap in a cloth dipped in honey (0,5 tsp on 0,5 l of water) cloth, put in a plastic bag, do not tie it. Keep in the fridge 2-3 of the day until roots appear. If there is no time for sprouting, 1-2 nitroammofoski granules dissolve in 2,5 l of water, soak garlic in the solution overnight.

Take the bed of garlic where the siderats (alfalfa, clover), zucchini or squash grew last fall. Do not plant garlic after onions, carrots and beets.
Under the digging at 1 sq. M, add 20-25 g potash phosphate fertilizer. At a distance of 25 cm from each other, make furrows with a depth of 2-3 cm. At a distance of 10-12 cm apart, spread the garlic cloves. Sprinkle with earth and grind with humus or compost (layer thickness - no more than 3 cm).
