Dwarf TREES ON LOW-GROUND GROUPS - PROS AND MINUSES
Today, many gardeners are trying to plant trees on dwarf rootstocks (primarily apples and pears). The main feature of such plants is that their height does not exceed 2,5-3 m. However, as usual, each medal has two sides. Consider the advantages and disadvantages of a short garden.
IN CARE OF ROLLS IMPORTANT:
- keep the trunk clean and weed out all the weeds
- prevent the formation of a crust on the ground (carefully loosen the soil)
- mulch
- water in drought 1 once a week (2 buckets under one seedling)
- control the development of ovaries (tear off the excess)
UNRELATED BENEFITS OF Dwarf TREES
Begin to bear fruit quickly
Ordinary tall fruit trees will delight 5-7 year with the first fruits. And 7-10 years will increase yields. Dwarfs start to bear fruit already on the 3-4 year, and you will get a full harvest from the 7-year-old plant.
Easy care
Trees whose crowns are not stretched by more than 2-3 m, it is easier to handle pests and diseases, pruned, and also to harvest from them.
Small food area
If a regular apple tree covers an area of about 40 sq. M, then a dwarf square will be enough for 8 sq. It turns out that where before you could plant just one strong-growing tree, you can now accommodate up to five undersized. This is especially important for owners of small areas.
Variety of varieties
More trees - more opportunities to "test" in my garden different varieties.
High yield
Of course, you will collect fewer fruits from one small tree than from one strong-growing one. But the small size allows for more dense plantings on the same area, so the total yield from dwarfs is about two times higher.
Beautiful view
Dwarf trees look very decorative, especially if they are grown in fancy artificial forms (cordons, pyramids, palmettes).
FACT: IF THE APPLEMENT IS ON A DREAM THE GROWTH IS NOT CORRECTLY TO PLANT AND DROP THE GIVEN PLACE. THIS IS A TREE FROM A LOW-BUTTERFLAST WILL TURN INTO A HIGH-HEIGHT. THE PLACE OF VACCINATION MUST REMAIN OVER THE SURFACE OF THE EARTH.

THERE ARE MINUSES AT Dwarf Trees
Lifespan
Ordinary tall fruit trees grow and fruit in the garden 40-50 for years, dwarf trees - 15-20 for years. However, during this period, dwarf stands produce as much fruit as vigorous for a longer period.
In addition, gardeners have the opportunity to update the assortment using more interesting varieties and stocks of domestic and foreign breeders.
Low frost resistance
The roots of dwarfs are located, as a rule, in the upper part of the soil, so the plants often freeze over. The complex of measures for preparing the garden for winter will help to solve the problem: autumn irrigation irrigation, shelter of the stalk strip with mulch in 5 cm, whitewashing trunks and skeletal branches, pruning of the tips of the shoots that have not ripened.
Low-growing trees need more thorough care than tall ones. They will often have to be watered, fertilized, treated for diseases and pests.
Dwarf trees need frequent pruning
Dwarf trees due to the active growth of the aerial parts of the crown quickly overgrown. If they are not regularly pruned (usually in early spring), the fruits become smaller. As a consolation, I can say the following: my experience shows that pruning 50 of undersized trees is easier than 10 of vigorous.
OUR REFERENCE:
Dwarf apple trees are obtained by grafting a varietal cutting on a dwarf clone stock. This means that they are not grown from seed, but by vegetative means. The resulting trees retain all the characteristics characteristic of the donor apple tree, with the exception of height.

In recent years, farmers, when planting an apple orchard, are not in vain choosing seedlings on low-growing rootstocks. Such plants are skoroplodny, the volume of a crop is many times more, than from tall trees. At the same time, due to better crown illumination, the fruits grow larger, their coloring is more intense, and the ripening time is accelerated. All this allows farmers to get a big profit in a short time.
From my experience, I will say that after severe frosts, stunted apple trees recover much faster than tall ones. The fact is that dwarfs are able to yield not only on rings and rods, the restoration of which requires 2 of the year, but also on a one-year increase. A few words about the benefits of the root system of dwarfs. Apple trees on low-growing rootstocks quickly take root and grow well in the year of planting. The main part of the roots is located in the upper soil layer, where there is more nutrition, and when we give additional dressings, they reach the plant much faster. The main thing when choosing is to buy seedlings on winter-hardy, zoned stocks.
COLONWOOD TREES - PROS AND CONS, GARDENERS'S REVIEWS
“Columns” is not just a tribute to fashion, they greatly facilitate the gardener’s path to harvest. Are COLONOVID GROWTH in the Middle Band? The author concluded that no. Maybe he did something wrong? We are waiting for comments.
We became interested in the columnar trees as soon as the rumor was heard about them, i.e. over 15 years ago.
At that time, getting them was not easy. Finally, I was lucky - in 2010 I managed to buy in one of the nurseries near Moscow. To the question of an elderly consultant, where I live, he answered: "In the north of the Yaroslavl region." The consultant (by the way, the candidate of agricultural science) gloomily remarked: “Have you played these toys yet? It would be better if they took half-dwarfs. ” But, as they say, "by the will of the wife who sent me" I stubbornly pointed to the apple-columns. He took the three most winter-hardy varieties: Moscow Necklace, Dialog and Vasyugan, which had a powerful root system and thick trunks. In parting, the seller advised warming the trunk circle for the winter.
Brought, planted in a better place. The maturity of the “columns”, to our joy, turned out to be true, and all the apple trees bloomed. We cut off the flowers, and in the second year we already got a crop - 5-7 apples each. The Moscow necklace turned out to be the most delicious, the rest are also quite good. For the winter, the near-stem circle was insulated with peat and the trunk was wrapped with newspapers from the cold and hares.
Meanwhile, our “columns” grew to 2 m and, to our great surprise, began to let out side branches, which I regularly pinched. This went on for four years. They didn’t make a backup, the trees had strong stems and kept themselves perfectly. I’m not even talking about beauty - imagine the trunks densely covered with (you can’t put your palm in) beautiful fruits - everyone was admiring!
But in the harsh winter of 2017, our “columns” froze to the level of snow, 40-degree frost was fatal for them. Powerful shoots went from the surviving hemp; I left 1 to 3 on each plant. He wanted to uproot, but his wife did not allow it - he regretted it.
It should be noted that in our city all familiar owners of such trees came to such results. It seems that the old consultant was right: it is easier to grow a garden from half-cars, especially on a seed stock than to communicate with thermophilic "columns".
So it turns out that growing fruit “columns” north of Moscow’s latitude is an interesting but ungrateful affair. Like a suitcase without a handle: it’s uncomfortable to carry, and it’s a pity to drop it. It would be interesting to continue the discussion on the pages of the magazine, I am especially interested in the opinion of gardeners in the North-West of our country.

Can an ordinary seedling grow a bonsai tree? I bought planting material in the garden center, and from the farmer, and from an amateur gardener. But still you get stunted trees. Why?
#
- The height of a tree of any variety depends on the type of stock on which this variety has been grafted. If the stock was a seedling obtained from the seeds of Antonovka or another cultivar, the grafted tree creates a powerful root system and grows up to 5 m and above.
However, today, not large trees, but plants with restrained growth are in fashion, for which scientists created special stocks. For example, for growing medium-sized trees, the MM-106 stock is used, and for dwarf trees, the M-9 stock.
Thus, the height of the grafted fruit tree does not depend on the place where you bought it, but on the stock on which the stalk of the cultivar was grafted. In your case, seedlings purchased in different places were grafted on a dwarf rootstock, and therefore they grow low.

What is the size of the hole to dig for a dwarf apple tree?
#
If you intend to settle such a tree on your plot, dig a hole the size of 80x80x50 cm, and on sandy soil increase the depth by 10-15 cm. You should not dig too deep a hole, but rather increase it in width.
It should be remembered that the planting of a low tree has its own characteristics. In the planting hole or on the knoll, carefully spread the roots in all directions, not forgetting that they are very brittle. The site of inoculation after sedimentation of the soil must be higher than the level of the soil, otherwise the scion may form its own roots.
