Raspberries in tires - a convenient way to grow
DON'T WANT THE Raspberry to sprout - GROW IN TIRES
We are tired of fighting with raspberries, which strives to crawl into the beds with vegetables. A familiar summer resident advised growing raspberries in ... tires.
As it turned out, this method has a lot of advantages. Siblings will not be able to "run away" for the territory allotted to them. It is much easier to take care of the bushes, to harvest, and such a berry bed looks neat and original.
For a new raspberry cake, we chose a clean, flat area with fertile soil. We got a couple of tires (better big ones - from a tractor or a truck). Further acted as follows.
We cut the sidewall tires (they only occupy a scarce space).
They dug a hole about half the depth of a spade bayonet with a diameter slightly larger than a wheel.
They leveled the bottom of the pit and lowered the tire into it so that it would rise above ground level on 10-15.
The circle was filled with soil removed mixed with the same amount of compost (humus) and 1 -2 Art. wood ash. Once again carefully dug. The soil level in the tire should not reach its upper edge on 12-15 cm, so that water and liquid fertilizer solutions go directly to the roots.
Each tire can "settle" up to three raspberry seedlings. After planting, the soil was mulched with semi-decomposed manure. During the summer, raspberries in tires were given minimal care: the thickening shoots were removed, and they were watered only in a strong drought. In the fall (in October), sprouts were cut out.
Plants of tall varieties are best grown on a trellis - we use wooden posts hammered into the ground at a distance of 30-35 cm from the wheel, on which we pulled several rows of wire. So that the shoots are well lit by the sun, we attach them to the support at an angle 50-60 degrees.

WORD TO THE SPECIALIST
Amateur growers often use tires from used tires to limit the growth and development of raspberries. But I would not advise you to do this: the roots of plants can absorb and accumulate harmful (from the point of view of ecology) substances released by these tires.
To prevent raspberries from spreading out on the plot, block the path to it with slate, which dig into the ground along the perimeter of the bed. And tires can be used for rooting cuttings of gooseberry, chokeberry, henomeles.
Here's how they do it, say, with gooseberries: in the spring the bushes (up to 30 cm high) “ring” a tire, inside which the shoots are bent to the soil and sprinkled the upper part on the third with earth, and then also sawdust (moisture will be better preserved).
Well watered. In such a "flower bed" shoots, as a rule, no longer need to be watered in addition - there is enough rain. As a result, shoots root on 100%. Already at the end of the season (in September-October) they are separated and transplanted to a permanent place, and the tire is removed from the mother plant.

I want to tell the readers about my experience of growing raspberries in tires. This method is good in that it prevents unwanted overgrowth of bushes and makes it easier to care for the berry and collect fruits. Removal of root suckers, which is indispensable for the usual cultivation of this plant, usually weakens the raspberries, and in the "rubber" unnecessary shoots do not spread around the bushes.
For cultivation, it is best to use larger tires. You need to dig a hole about half the depth of a shovel bayonet and a diameter slightly larger than the tire. Thoroughly level the bottom and lay the tire so that it rises 10-15 cm above the ground level. Then return the soil back to the tire, add a bucket of garden compost and dig thoroughly again.
Such a berry flower bed needs minimal supervision: remove thickening shoots, water only on hot, dry days. With the onset of autumn, old, fruiting and damaged stems will need to be cut out.
Of course, with this method of growing raspberries, the plantings occupy a large area, but the yield will also increase. It is better to grow tall plants on a trellis - for this I use wooden posts driven into the ground at a distance of 30-35 cm from the wheel, on which I pulled several rows of wire.

Going to plant raspberries along the fence. Since this culture is demanding on soil fertility, I want to fill the trench with humus. But since I will buy it, I want to calculate the exact amount. How to do it better?

The question asked is quite simple from the point of view of arithmetic calculations, but from the point of view of agricultural engineering there are some nuances.
First, determine the volume of the trench: measure its length, width and depth, then multiply the numbers obtained. Here is an example: if the length of the trench is 20 m, the width of 1 m and the depth 0,5 m, the volume will be equal to 10 cube. m (20x1x0,5).
However, the soil for this volume needs a little more, taking into account its natural sedimentation, which is approximately 20%, that is, another 2 cube is required for shrinkage. m, total 12 cube. m
In this case, note that raspberries, like many other cultures, do not tolerate burial, therefore, the trench must be filled in advance, no later than a month before planting.
Try to correctly calculate the necessary parameters of the trench. They depend on the planned layout of plants, the type of soil, the depth of groundwater and other characteristics of the site.
Given the surface root system of raspberries, it makes no sense to drive the valuable fertile soil to great depths. This is all the more inexpedient with closely located groundwater, where the soil will simply rot without any benefit. On such sites, if you need to dig trenches, then only for soil drainage, laying large branches, stumps, bundles of brushwood, sod, etc. on the bottom. Plant the same plants will have to bulk rolls.
