Compliance with the timing of cabbage planting is, of course, a sacred matter. But even you can approach him creatively, providing yourself with vitamins in the end for almost the entire year.
Once again, I decided to share my observations and experiences with the readers of our beautiful “Dacha”. This time I will talk about the cultivation of Chinese cabbage. I have been friends with her for many years, so my agrotechnical practices have been worked out to automaticity. But it turned out that if the automation suddenly fails, the results can be very interesting. I usually deal with proven hybrids like Chacha F1 and Richie F1which are famous for their beautiful weighty heads (photo 1). But last year I was too lazy to go the extra half kilometer to the store where I always buy seeds, and I went to the nearest one, where I bought a variety of Glass. The cheap packaging was a little embarrassing, but I did not attach much importance to this, because I have never met with bad reviews about the mentioned variety.
Sowed the purchased seeds, as always, in the spring and, as always, immediately into the open ground. And the seeds ... did not sprout at all! Then I remembered that I read about the possibility of sowing Beijing cabbage for a second term - seedlings in July.
I was not too lazy here, I went to “my” shop and bought the seeds of Nick's F1 hybrid (there were no others at the beginning of June already). I acted with them as described in the letter: soaked, and then planted two things in one plastic cup. The germination of them turned out to be normal: somewhere both seeds were hatched, but somewhere one by one. As soon as real leaflets appeared on the sprouts, I left one plant in the cups, otsadiv excess in a separate container.
I watered cabbage, like all my seedlings in general, as infusion of kvass thick.
I will explain where it comes from. The fact is that all year round I prepare for my household a very healthy drink - kvass. I’ll clarify: I’m preparing it myself, the recipe is simple. Pour the sourdough, dry kvass and sugar with warm water, insist for a day, filter, and everything can be drunk or okroshka.
Some of the so-called thick must be drained to add dry kvass and sugar to it again. I pour this warmth of this sourdough part with warm water (100 g of 2 sour dough of water), insist on 3-5 days and water the seedlings with it, and at the same time houseplants. The smell, of course, comes from this fluid is not the most pleasant, but the benefits are great for plant health (photo 2), which grow in the literal sense of yeast.
Well, I continue. After the heat of June in the first half of July, the air temperature dropped and it rained, which I was very happy about - it’s time to plant young cabbage! No need to shade it from the sun, no need to constantly water - the poet's dream! And the whole planted seedlings really perfectly took root and quickly went into growth. Watering it, like all plants in the garden, only fermented nettles. My Nika developed at a shocking pace to my joy and grew healthy and powerful by the fall. After cleaning, I first dried and ventilated it in a dry room, and then tightly wrapped it with cling film and sent it to the basement for storage (photo 3).
This experience was very useful. Judge for yourself: window sills at the end of May - beginning of June are already free, and there are no problems with placing trays with Peking seedlings on them. And in early July, the beds begin to be freed after harvesting the early potatoes, and in its place you can just freely, without interfering with other plantings, add a Beijing!
Again, in the summer we already have enough greenery, and the method of growing this cabbage with seedlings in the second half of the season also provides vitamins in the winter. I also want to note that the summer harvest of Peking cabbage is stored better than that planted in spring.

In the period from April 20 to May 10 in the greenhouse, where I am going to grow tomatoes, for every square meter I dig for a digging along a bucket of rotted manure and 1 tbsp. superphosphate. I mark PET-bottles with holes in which I will subsequently plant seedlings, and between them at a distance of 20 cm from future tomatoes and from each other I sow 2 seed of Chinese cabbage. Mulch crops wood ash. When the seedlings put on the 2-3 true leaflets, pull out weaker ones.
TIP: I do not feed Peking cabbage additionally and try to remove it from the greenhouse before it is necessary to feed the tomatoes for the first time. From my own experience I can say that excessively fertilized soil makes Peking cabbage tough and tasteless.
