THE MOST EARLY POTATO IN MAY
The selection of varieties for early planting depends on many components: taste, climate, soil, the number of tubers for planting ... And most importantly - zoned planting material, purchased from a reliable supplier.
I was lucky: friends supplied tubers with as many as three varieties. And you can safely compare the results, since Rosaru and Karatop were grown last season (2018), and Bel-Larosa was planted this April. KARATOP is a German selection. In the State Register of the Russian Federation for the Central Chernozem Region and central Russia - since the late 1990s.
The color of the pulp is cream, and the tubers are light yellow. It is not picky about the soil, but it does not tolerate drought at the beginning of the growing season. And after flowering, it is better not to top up than to overfill. Round tubers of medium size weighing up to 120 g.
The disadvantage is exposure to late blight, but the earlier we plant it, the less risk it is to “pick up”. Technical maturity in 50 days. This potato is very good for mashed potatoes. Even without milk it is very tasty, and butter can be replaced by vegetable.
ROSARA - German grade. In the State Register of the Russian Federation since 1996, recommended for the entire territory of Russia. The deep pink tubers are oval, with almost no eyes. The pulp is yellow and dense. Ready for use after 45 days. But the variety for summer consumption is not stored. When cooking, retains its shape, good for eating whole tubers.
Bellarose - variety in Russia since 2006. Also German. Dining room, stress resistant. Technical ripeness after 55 days from germination. It grows on any soil, unlike Rosara, has heavier tubers up to 200 g. With good care, they form in the bush up to 10-12. Universal application: first courses, mashed potatoes, frying. Lying, disease resistant.
LEGAL TRAINING PREPARATION
Serious attitude to this event is the guarantee of the harvest. I started vernalization in early March, that is, a month and a half before landing. Tubers washed in hot water to wash away dirt, pests, spores of diseases. Treated with fungicide. She laid the dried tubers on a sunny windowsill in a glazed loggia. Once a week, turned over, sprayed with water, and three weeks later lowered it to the floor. During this time, dark green shoots appeared on the tubers (on Rosar and Bellarose with a purple tint), the largest ones grew to 1,5 cm. Some tubers slightly sagged and dried, but this is normal. The vernalization is useful in that green tubers secrete solanine - it is not tasty for pests. And the presence of strong shoots will reduce the time of emergence of seedlings.
WARM FIELD FOR EARLY TOTAL
It is important to have sufficiently heated soil. Help out high and warm beds. For a quick warm-up, without waiting for the complete melting of the snow, I harbor black agrofiber. Immediately after the snow melts, the biomaterial dried up for the winter is embedded in the soil (bread crusts, tea and coffee used, EM compost from the EM bucket, etc.). And under the agrofiber in the presence of heat and sun, the soil will quickly heat up, thanks to the process of decomposition of organic matter.
LANDING 10 APRIL
In the first half of April - planting tubers. Sprouts by this time grew to 1 cm, became "oily", dark green in color. Last year, they planted potatoes on April 20, but this year they did not tolerate it and planted it on April 10.
Furrows with a depth of 10-15 cm were sprinkled with ash, the tubers were laid in still moist soil after 30 cm. The same distance between the rows. We placed 20 tubers in two rows, in the middle also planted radishes.
CARE: COVERING AND POLISHING
The bed was covered with white covering material on low (up to half a meter) arcs. Shoots appeared exactly one week later! Shelter was not removed until the end of April. By this time, the bushes rose under the arc, the growth was friendly and fast. Watered once a week plentifully.
In the garden, the soil has been well-manicured since the fall; almost 50% is humus and plant debris. Naturally, no spring dressing!
By the 20 numbers in May the height of the bushes reached 50-60, see. The radish also quickly ripened and was eaten. And the potato bushes closed. I even had to remove some of the leaves. By this time, the buds appeared. We stopped watering because it rained.
COLLECTION OF MAY 31
MAKING CONCLUSIONS
Last year, when planting 20 April harvest dug 10 June. How he pleased us! Karatop gave 12 small, even tubers, and Rosara in the bush had 7-9 pieces, but larger and elongated (the size of a duck egg). This is when harvesting through 50 day after planting! And this year, we dug 31 potatoes in May! Bellarosa tubers are small but tasty! Gave us 10-12 pieces from the bush. Which were immediately cooked and eaten.
To plant early potatoes is a must! We need very few bushes. You have to work hard, but it's worth it. Note: the remaining vernalized tubers of Bellarosa planted in the first days of May in the ridges in the garden. Shoots appeared on the 10th day. And compared to the nearby growing Saprykinsky variety, Bellarosa looks more powerful - the strength and benefits of early vernalization and hardening.

Early potatoes - in winter
You can also get young potatoes in winter, and not from distant countries, but right in your kitchen. I started practicing this a couple of years ago, having read the recipe in one of the old magazines that I found in the attic of my parents' dacha. Take it into service for the winter - you will not regret it.
For a potato "plantation" you will need deep (at least 40 cm) boxes. They should be filled with fertile soil and tubers should be planted about a third of the height. The earth must be well watered, and the container itself must be placed in a place where the temperature is in the range of 25-30 degrees, for example, next to the heating battery.
Under such conditions, potatoes do not sprout, but form daughter nodules 2-3 cm in diameter. They are quite suitable for food, their taste is no worse than that of early young potatoes. You can harvest two months after planting. All this time, it is necessary to water the soil in the boxes at least once every ten days and not allow the ambient temperature to drop.
