I just can't make friends with carrots - it grows clumsy, seeds do not germinate well. The fact is that our soil is heavy, brought in sand and humus, I try to loosen the bed - it does not help. I read on the Internet that there are varieties of carrots that are not afraid of carrot flies and grow well on heavy soil. But they are so expensive. Does it make sense to buy them? How to prepare a carrot bed for next year?

      - Indeed, many new varieties of carrots have appeared, which are distinguished by increased immunity and a denser root crop, grow quickly and actively resist pests. But even modern varieties do not have miraculous properties. They also suffer from carrot flies if there are a lot of pests, and even these varieties will have gnarled roots if the soil is heavy.
Therefore, I recommend not to chase new products, but to ennoble the earth, make it looser and more suitable for growing carrots.
At the end of summer, plant any legume crop in the future carrot garden. When the plants reach a height of 10-15 cm, mow them and seal them into the soil with a flat cutter.
Under the autumn digging, add a bucket of humus and river sand, as well as 1 tsp. nitroammofoski per 1 sq.m.
To protect plants from carrot flies, follow the crop rotation, plant onions around the perimeter of the garden.

Under the carrots, I took a plot on which onions grew last season. I dug up the earth and thoroughly plowed up. Seeds sown in late April. Watering the carrots when she noticed that the topsoil had dried up.

In the phase of the first real leaf, I fed it with complex mineral fertilizer according to the instructions, repeated feeding after the first thinning, then when the root crops began to pour. Harvested in mid-September. The carrots pulled out, laid out on the garden bed for 4, cut the tops so that there were stumps about 1 cm high. She laid them in wooden boxes, sprinkled them with moist sand and sent them to the cellar.
