BEST VARIETIES OF PEPPER AND GROWING THEM - PLANT AND CARE TIPS
Beds of fruit-bearing pepper can turn your head in its diversity. Whatever forms and colors his nature has awarded: round and long, conical and square, and also green, yellow, red, purple ... Having an incomparable taste and aroma, this vegetable is able not only to decorate any table, but also to supply our body with vitamins and other necessary substances. But pepper is a culture with character, and will be revealed in all its glory to only the most zealous gardeners.
THOUGHT UP
Growing peppers requires a balanced approach. It has long been convinced that only a seedling method allows plants to create favorable conditions for a successful start. Soil mixture for seedlings is prepared in the fall. Its composition: two buckets of sod land (prepared in the forest plantation, and then sieved through a sieve) and humus (at least two years old) and a bucket of sand. For each bucket of this mixture add a liter jar of wood ash. Fill the boxes with at least 15-16 depth with finished soil mixture. We put tanks with soil mixture at freezing under the shed, before sowing we disinfect them with boiling water and transfer them to the room where the seeds will germinate.
We plan to sow hot peppers for the second decade of February, and sweet ones a little later, focusing on the lunar calendar. We start seed preparation for sowing in 30-45 days. To do this, we warm them near the heating devices in plastic bags, in which, before sowing, we make holes for air circulation.
After warming up, many gardeners usually disinfect the seeds with 1% potassium permanganate solution at room temperature for 20-25 minutes, then wash them with running water.
We use another method: soak the seeds in aloe juice solution (10 ml per 100 ml of water) on 6-8 h and, without rinsing, dry to flowability. In a box through 6-8, we make an edge of the ruler of the groove 0,5 depth, see. Use tweezers and carefully fold the seeds in the grooves at a distance of 2-3. Then we cover the box with a transparent film and leave it in a room with air temperature 5-25 ° C. If the box is installed near the battery, daily change its position in relation to heat.
Under favorable conditions, seedlings appear after 7-9 days (at 22-25 ° C temperature - on 9-12-th day). When sprouts (in the form of white loops) will be up to 10%, move the box to a cooler room (air temperature is 5-6 ° C below). A new home for plants should be well lit.
When the 50-60% seedling appears, remove the plastic wrap from the drawers. This will provide the root system with additional heat and allow it to fully develop. If you miss this moment, the plants will stretch out, they will be very thin, with weak roots and will “lie down” at the very first watering. Seeds are sown not randomly, but in rows, so that in case of lodging, seedlings can be saved by sprinkling with soil.
Since the pepper is very painful for picking, we abandoned this procedure. Instead, we roll the sprout together with a lump of soil into a more spacious place and pour it with soil mixture. Thus, the root system is formed more efficiently.

Water in the morning (up to 9: 00) with warm rain or melt snow water of room temperature (if it is not there, you can use regular tap water that has been settled for 24 hours).
Feed the seedlings every 10-12 days with infusion of chicken manure (1 kg per 20 l of water) or mullein (1kg per 10 l of water), combining with irrigation. The first 20 days of watering try not to abuse, so that the plants are not "knocked down" black leg. And if you accidentally overdone with watering, treat the surface with wood ash as soon as possible - it will absorb excess moisture and add a few degrees of heat.
By the time of planting in open ground, plants should be 60-65 days old, by this time they have already formed 6-8 leaves. 10 days before planting, we harden the seedlings. The first two to three days we take plants to fresh air in the afternoon. We start with 20 minutes. then gradually increase the time. The last three to four days before transplanting seedlings leave the night on the street. We plant plants in the garden late in the evening, but before that we water abundantly in the morning so that they can easily be taken out of the box with a lump of earth. Planting scheme 45-50 × 35-40 cm, for varieties with small bushes - 30-35 × 20-25 cm.
When planting seedlings in any case, do not add fresh manure or bird droppings to the wells, as this has a detrimental effect on the pepper. To preserve moisture in the soil and to protect the root system from overheating during the sultry heat, we row the rows between straw, hay or grass (layer up to 10 cm). Among other things, this technique facilitates weed control. Water the plants two or three times a week.
We make the beds with pepper backstage. As wings, we sow three or four rows of sweet corn of the varieties of lingonberry or gourmand. The scenes are placed at a distance 2 m from each other, between them - three rows of pepper of the same variety. A wall of powerful plants protects peppers from cold wind currents, creates a greenhouse effect in hot weather, and also partially eliminates pollination with a nearby variety.
If the weather is cloudy for a long time, the microclimate is regulated by dusting the plants with wood ash in the early morning, in the dew. Ash powder absorbs excess moisture, enriches the bush with potassium, protects against fungal diseases. After each harvest, we feed the plants with infusion of chicken manure (1 kg per 20 l of water) or mullein (1 kg per 10 l of water), combining top dressing with watering over the mulch. If strong heat, in the evening, at sunset, we spend sprinkling using irrigation tape "Mist".
