      – Hippocrates also said: “Everything is poison, everything is medicine.” It's all about quantity. It is recommended to eat no more than 100-150 g of any fresh berries per day. If in the form of a decoction or tea - no more than a glass per day. If in the form of juice - 100 g and better not in pure form, but diluted with water. I would recommend that people with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract consult a doctor.

      – For anemia, spring vitamin deficiency. The active substances of this berry increase immunity. Chokeberry berries and juice stimulate appetite, increase acidity and digest the power of gastric juice. They are useful for people suffering from gastritis with low acidity of gastric juice. As you know, stomach acidity decreases with age, and I would especially recommend this berry for readers 55+. Fresh berries and juice help lower blood pressure. This, by the way, applies to both ordinary mountain ash and viburnum.

      There are contraindications: it should not be used by those with low blood pressure, gastritis with high acidity, stomach and duodenal ulcers, constipation, or increased blood clotting.

    I often see that gardeners don’t even collect them, leaving them for the winter - chokeberry, for example. I recently learned that it is perhaps the healthiest of all berries.

      – It is the leader in antioxidant content among all berries, even ahead of black currants. The very name of chokeberry contains its essence: chokeberry, “aros” - from the Latin “help”. It contains a lot of organic acids that are important for our body; it is an excellent absorbent that removes toxins. It contains a large percentage of healthy pectin and vitamin C (up to 8 mg per 100 g!). 100 g of chokeberry contains a daily dose of vitamin A, necessary for every person, as well as a variety of B vitamins. It is rich in iodine, which is in no way inferior to feijoa, an expensive imported fruit, or seaweed, which is considered a means of preventing and treating thyroid diseases.

    Aronia: simple and useful
    When I bought a plot of land, I decided to plant various unpretentious shrubs on the boundary, including chokeberry, and I never regretted it. The plant is absolutely undemanding to soils, even the close standing of groundwater is not a hindrance to it, it tolerates winter well, diseases and pests bypass it. Due to late flowering, chokeberry (the scientific name of chokeberry) never freezes, pollinates on its own, while giving a good harvest of large sour-sweet berries with a slight astringency, but without bitterness, which do not crumble at all, they are easy to collect and store.
    Another plus in favor of the chokeberry: the bushes do not need to be specially formed; with sufficient lighting, the plant itself forms a beautiful crown.
    And in order for chokeberry to have a good and stable yield, it is enough to pay a little attention to it:
    - it is better to plant a plant in a sunny place (fruiting decreases in the shade);
    - in the trunk circle, the soil should be regularly loosened and weeded from weeds;
    - in the spring it is enough to remove only old and broken branches;
    - at the beginning of summer, carry out top dressing with organic matter (5 kg of bird droppings, diluted with water 1:20, for each adult bush);
    - in the dry season, the soil around the bushes should be moistened and mulched.
    If you properly care for chokeberry, then it will begin to bear fruit already 1-2 years after planting, while maintaining its decorative effect.

    To strengthen blood vessels, help in the work of the liver and the endocrine system, the therapist advised to eat more chokeberry. But the berries are tart, astringent to taste. Another thing is the “raisins” made from blackberries, healthy and tasty, which I have learned to cook myself. For 1,5 kg of mountain ash I take 1 kg of sugar, 2 tbsp. water, 1 tsp citric acid. I sort out the fruits, rinse them under running water and let them drain in a colander.

    I pour water into a saucepan, dissolve sugar in it, bring to a boil on the stove, stirring occasionally. Pour mountain ash with lemon into the boiling liquid. I cook for 20-25 minutes, put it back in a colander to drain the syrup (it can be used for compote). The berries are dried in the oven on a baking sheet, spreading baking paper, at a temperature of + 40-50 degrees. I pour the finished "raisins" into paper bags or store in a closed glass jar. It is tasty both in itself and in you oven, drinks.

    Aronia (chokeberry) has been growing here for two decades.

    So that the seedling has time to acclimatize, and in the spring it does not fall under frost, the planting was scheduled for early October. A mixture of rotted compost, superphosphate (200 g), potassium chloride (100 g) and wood ash (200-300 g) was introduced into the pit. Aronia is photophilous, so it grows in a sunny area.
    Once every two years in April, we bring a bucket of organic matter mixed with 2-3 tbsp under the bushes (along the perimeter of the crown for loosening). granular double superphosphate.
    Obligatory reception - regular pruning in late autumn after leaf fall.
    First of all, we cut out weak branches from the middle of the bush, and also remove the old skeletal ones. Finally, we shorten the plants to a height of no more than 1 m.
    With minimal care, chokeberry bears fruit well up to 50 years.
