IMPORTANT. Garlic should not be planted after potatoes, otherwise it will be severely affected by Fusarium and Nematode. After garlic and onion, garlic is planted at the earliest in 5-6 years.
Like onions, garlic prefers light loamy and sandy loamy soils with a soil solution reaction closer to neutral. The relief of the garlic area should be smooth, without depressions that contribute to the accumulation of water on which the garlic will be soaked.
The soil for winter garlic is prepared and fertilized for 2-3 weeks before planting, the ridges are cut in a day or two. At this time, make nitrogen fertilizer (ammonium nitrate) and carefully close it, the norm is 60-80 g / sq. m
IMPORTANT. On a flat surface, garlic succeeds worse. Ridges and ridges in early spring are better warmed up and dry out, garlic grows earlier, and excess moisture leaves in rainy summers.
MINERAL FERTILIZERS are applied in the same quantities as for onions. Of these, 3/4 of the nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium fertilizers are applied for the main tillage in the fall, as well as organic fertilizers - humus or well-rotten compost (4-6 kg / sq. M). The rest of the mineral fertilizers are given as top dressing in the spring.
