Soap-oil solutions and emulsions from pests of domestic plants

PREPARATION OF OIL-OIL SOLUTIONS FROM PESTS
I read that soap and oil emulsions are good for pests. I want to know how to cook and apply them?
Oil emulsions have long been used to protect plants from pests and pathogens.
The principle of their action is as follows: a thin film of oil envelops an insect or tick and causes its death from suffocation, in addition, it dissolves the chitin (shell) of both the pests themselves and their eggs, which also leads to death.
The oil film also acts negatively on fungi and bacteria: it inhibits their growth and development, prevents infection, and the germination of new spores.
Gardeners are well aware of preparations for early spring garden treatment based on mineral (petroleum jelly) oil - 30 Plus and analogues. However, for vegetative and especially indoor plants they are not used because of the high phytotoxicity.
Therefore, in this case, use vegetable oil in the form of a soap-oil emulsion, which is easily decomposed (or washed off) and it is well tolerated by plants. Soap in this case works not only as an emulsifier, but also alkalizes the environment for faster destruction of chitin.
Basic recipe: 100 g of solid laundry soap is diluted in 1 liter of warm water, 100 ml of any vegetable oil is “driven in” and the volume is adjusted to 5 liters. Carefully process the leaves from all sides, without getting on the soil.
VARIATIONS AND ACTIVE ADDITIVES TO SOAP OIL EMULSIONS
Tar or sulfur soap.
Emulsions give a more pronounced fungicidal effect.
Neem oil.
Oil of nim tree, or Indian azadirachta (lat. Azadirachta indica), has a strong insecticidal effect. They add it in addition to vegetable oil, or you can buy a finished drug based on it.
Castor oil.
It works well against pests and diseases, as well as a stimulator of growth and flowering. To 1 liter of base emulsion add 1 tsp. castor oil, and instead of solid soap use liquid green so that the emulsion does not turn out too thick.
Licorice extract.
It contains glycyrrhizic acid, which enhances, accelerates the effect of the emulsion on pests and pathogens, and increases the period of its protective effect. Licorice extract is contained, for example, in the Chest Elixir pharmacy (licorice extract + anise oil + ammonia), while the remaining components of the elixir only enhance the effect of the emulsion. For 1 l of the basic composition, 25 ml of the pharmacy drug will be required.
APPLICATION
Despite the fungicidal properties of the soap-oil emulsion, it is often used against pests: spider mites, aphids, thrips, whiteflies. Treatments are carried out both for prophylaxis (1 time per month) and for treatment (1 time in 5-7 days until the complete disappearance of pests). It may not work as fast as modern pesticides, but people who do not use industrial drugs for various reasons can use this tool.
RINSING the emulsion is not necessary, although a periodic shower for the plants is welcome.
