NEW VARIETIES OF PRIMULES - PHOTO + TITLE + DESCRIPTION
Spring is associated with galanthus, crocuses, hellebore, and other early-flowering beauties. But after all, a good half of summer residents do not find them in dissolution.
For such florists, the season begins with primroses, which delight with a gentle scattering of “lights” of all shades a little later, in April and early May. And it was at this time that the primrose got all the attention. How do you want in such moments to plant more interesting varieties in the garden!
At the FlowersExpo-2019 exhibition in Moscow, Julia WOLFSHMIDT, an employee of a German nursery, introduced visitors to the original series of primrose ordinary - Hethor, Pettico Piano, Crescendo, Bellarina. At first, they seemed to me a kind of exotic. But, as it turned out later, some of the previously presented (varieties have already been tested in the middle lane.
NOWING CROPS PRIMULA
The one who “caught fire” with a chic flower may grow primrose from seeds. Western companies offer to sow in June-July. But the owners of domestic nurseries are advised to do this in February-March (the optimal time in the middle lane). Seeds are distributed on the surface of the soil and sprayed with water, do not sprinkle. The bowl is wrapped in a bag and sent for at least two weeks in the refrigerator (+ 3-5 degrees.) Then put on the windowsill (only not southern).
SEEDLING CARE
The temperature for the development of seedlings is kept at + 16-18 degrees. Why is it important? Only in this range will a good root system be able to withstand a pick. When two true leaves appear, the seedlings are planted in separate pots with drainage holes. Peeled primrose is watered with a thin stream of water. In the future, they are regularly fed complex fertilizer.
In June, the grown seedlings in the tanks are dug in a semi-shady corner of the garden (not in the lowland). Bushes are planted in a constant place in the second half of August, when cooler weather sets in, at a distance of 25-30 cm from each other.

CLEARANCE CENTER
In March, as soon as the snow melts, the sockets clear of last year's foliage. Granules of nitrogen fertilizer are scattered across the soil. Refuse urea, because it will begin to be absorbed only after a couple of months. Better take ammonium nitrate. If you want to prepare a solution from it, reduce the dose by 2 times (0, 5 tablespoons / 10 liters of water).
Are April and May arid? Need moderate watering. Now feed the primrose with liquid fertilizer for flowering specimens.
After flowering, in June the first half of July, use any complex preparation for top dressing. Do not forget about watering if there is no rain for a long time, as well as weeding.
In late August and early September, overgrown primrose is divided. Do not ignore this rule, as thickened bushes sparse bloom and often wither. The curtain is dug up and chopped with a shovel into several parts. Delenki planted in a new place without deepening, and watered. When the bushes are accepted, then fresh leaves will appear from the middle - a signal that it is time to cut off the old ones.
Due to prolonged autumn rains, part of the rhizome may be exposed. At the end of October-November, pour humus under the sockets. Cover large-flowered and terry varieties with dry fallen leaves (scribble a net so as not to scatter from the wind).
FLOWER TESTIMONIALS
Collector Veronika BEED their plantings of daylilies “knock out” with bushes of unpretentious primroses with simple inflorescences, for example, varieties Crescendo blue shades etc. In the summer, when primroses go to rest, the foliage of taller perennials creates for them a slight shade from the scorching sun. The root system of spring beauties, although not deep, but powerful (perfectly holds the soil on the slopes).
I remember the story of breeder Tatyana KOLOKOLENKOVA. Tatyana Nikolaevna, giving a lecture, admired the ability to primrose naturally cross her hair and give copies of amazing colors.
And here’s the review of flower grower Igor Milekhin from Voskresensk: “Creamy baby of the series Belarina came to me by accident. For a couple of seasons, she grew a bush, and then turned into a terry "princess"! It blooms for a long time - from April to June. But it also requires attention: timely top dressing, removal of fading flowers, dividing overgrown bushes, mulching ...
VARIETIES AND TYPES OF PRIMROS - ADVICE AND FEEDBACK
RARE AMONG PRIMROS
I will never miss the opportunity to “settle” curiosities on the site. The easiest way to get such plants from seeds. So in my garden appeared primrose geyherolifolia and primrose stemless varieties Blue jeans with blue petals.
PEARL COLLECTION
Primrose geyherolifolia - alpine species from the south-central part of China. The bush reaches a height of 15-20 cm, actively grows in width. The leaves are rounded, serrated at the edges and rough to the touch, slightly “curly”, so the plant is not surprisingly confused with geyhera (hence the name of the species). Primrose blooms in early May with single flowers on long peduncles.
In nature, this beauty grows from the shady side under the cover of rocks, trees, and also in bamboo forests. For this reason, I chose a dry, shady place for planting seedlings on a hill under a willow, where there is no stagnant water even in spring. The primrose liked the gravelly soil.
I sow seeds in early February in bowls with universal soil. I stratify the crops for a month in the refrigerator. If possible, I bury it in a snowdrift. Seeds germinate on the 10th day. I rearrange the containers with seedlings in the light and provide cool (+ 11-15 degrees) conditions until the “kids” get stronger.
I plant the grown plants in a permanent place at the beginning of summer in cool weather. I monitor soil moisture. When the soil dries up, I water the bushes. When they take root well and start growing, they will no longer need additional watering. Primroses bloom in their second year.
"BLUE-EYED" BLUE JEANS
Plants with blue flowers are my favorite. When I saw the seeds of the stemless primrose Blue Jeans for sale, I immediately bought them. The highlight of the plant is in the white venation of the petals, which can be more or less pronounced depending on the type of soil and lighting. The flowers of Blue Jeans are large, up to 4 cm in diameter, appearing from a rosette of wrinkled leaves in "bouquets". Each stem carries one bud. This primrose blooms in early May and pleases for 2-3 weeks.
I sow seeds in February-April, although it is possible later. All the same, seedlings will fully bloom only in the second year. For friendly and fast germination, I keep pots with
sowing a couple of days at room conditions, and then stratifying for 10 days on the refrigerator door. Seeds hatch on the 7-10th day.
Seedlings develop better at a temperature of +11 - 15 degrees. I keep them on a cool windowsill or take them out to the veranda. A month later I dive into cassettes. After 10 days, I begin to feed with a solution of humates once every two weeks. A month later I take it out to the garden for a couple of hours for hardening.
In early to mid-June, I choose a cool day and plant the grown seedlings in a shady flower garden. I water until the young bushes take root.
Before winter, I mulch the ground under the curtains with compost.

elegant primrose
She is attractive and unpretentious. For abundant flowering, it is important to divide the bushes in time. I have specimens in my garden that grow rapidly and require rejuvenation every 2-3 years. And for example, a large-flowered primrose with yellow petals (I don’t remember the name of the variety) remains compact for a long time. If desired, it can be transferred into a pot and placed on a bright, cool windowsill. But after flowering, be sure to land in open ground. The main thing in growing primrose is landing on an elevated place where there will be no stagnation of moisture.

PRIMROSE
Ideally, if the temperature on the windowsill is within + 12-16 degrees. The plant needs bright diffused light, without direct rays. Water the flowering bush abundantly, then moderately, after the topsoil has dried. With the advent of heat, the stemless (ordinary) primrose is planted in open ground. But P. back-conical and P. Chinese can be left in pots until the next season, transplanted and placed in a cool, shady place with good ventilation for the summer. Water moderately, remove yellowed leaves in autumn and increase moisture.

The son gave a beautiful primrose in a pot. Can a plant live in an apartment? Or is it better to give it to my sister to plant in the garden?

Of course, the primrose will be more comfortable in the open. But for a while she will please you at home as a seasonal “live bouquet”. Put the pot on a cool windowsill - ideally, the flower needs + 12-16 degrees. Primrose prefers bright light, but not direct sun. Water a flowering plant abundantly, then - moderately, after drying of the top layer of the soil. In dry air, periodically spray the leaves. If the room is hot, put the pot with primrose on a tray with wet pebbles.
PRIMULA ACAULIS after flowering with the arrival of heat needs to be planted in open ground, but P. obconica and P. sinensis can be left in pots until next season. They are transplanted and placed in the summer in a cool, shaded place with good ventilation. Watering moderately, in the fall, yellowed leaves are removed and watering is increased.
