    HOW I FORM DAHIA BUSHES
In order for dahlias to bloom well, I form the plants immediately after planting.
For plants grown from root tubers, I leave no more than 2 strong shoots.
For cuttings, I leave 1 powerful stem.
If you regularly trim the bushes, the flowers will be much larger.
This must be done from planting in the ground until the buds appear in the leaf axils of the main stems.
To speed up flowering, I pinch the central buds.
To prevent the lower part of the stem from thickening, I remove leaves to a height of 30 cm starting from the end of July - beginning of August.
This contributes to better preservation of tubers.

Dahlias from seeds - how to grow?

I love dahlias very much, but due to lack of space in the soda, I decided to plant annual varieties. One of my favorite varieties is Figaro.

It is not difficult to grow luxurious flowers from seeds. In the spring I buy a bag of Figaro series seed mix. I sow them in April in a greenhouse. In late May - early June, I plant seedlings in a permanent place.
I choose the sunniest place in the garden. I plant immediately in groups along the path. Dahlias of the Figaro series are undersized compact bushes with a large number of inflorescences. Flowers of various colors from snow-white to purple and bright yellow, may be non-uniform. The flowers are large, double and semi-double, bright and very elegant.
Annual dahlias bloom early and delight with beauty until autumn. The Figaro variety is unpretentious and is able to bloom until frost. Care is reduced only to watering, weeding and top dressing.
If desired, in the fall, you can collect your seeds from plants and use them for sowing next year.
Figaro dahlias will thank for their care and delight everyone who loves and appreciates these flowers with their bright colors.

I plant my dahlias in early May. Before planting, I divide the nests - the smaller they are, the larger the flowers will be later.
Then in a bucket I cook a mash of clay, sand and compost (2: 1: 2). Add a cap of sodium humate to it. Consistency - thick sour cream. Delenki dipped in a talker and slightly dried on a wire rack. In the remaining mixture, add water to become liquid, and pour 0 l into each well. Planting dahlias, sprinkle them and mulch the surface with straw.
With this method of planting, I no longer feed the bushes until I dig them, I only water them in the heat.

If ants appear on the tops of young shoots, prepare an infusion of garlic (grind, dilute 1: 1 with water and put in a dark warm place for 10 days). Then I dilute 1 liter of infusion in 5 liters of water and process the bushes.

Last year, I bought a variegated dahlia in a pot on the market. All summer bloomed well. Autumn decided to save the plant. I took it out of the container, but there was not a single tuber, but only thin filiform roots. How is this possible? Why didn’t the tubers form?

      - These were annual dahlias. In fact, they are no different from perennials and have a huge number of varieties. They are popularly called "Funny Guys." If you observe the time of sowing seeds and agricultural cultivation, then at the end of the season you can get small tubers. Most likely, your plant simply did not have the strength to form them.

For the future: from annual dahlias, you can collect seeds and sow them in the spring. True, in this case, the color of the petals may differ from the parent color (if the seeds are from a hybrid plant). The flowering of annual dahlias is plentiful and long, occurs much earlier than that of large tuberous dahlias, approximately 50-60 days after sowing the seeds.
If a tuber is formed and you manage to save and plant it in the spring, you will get a dahlia that is fully consistent with the varietal qualities of the mother plant.

Did you know that for the first time dahlias were brought to us from America as a root crop, but our ancestors did not like the underground part of the novelty? But the flowers of the plant were very beautiful, and they began to plant in the gardens. Interestingly, with the potato, everything turned out the other way around: initially it was brought as an ornamental plant, and then the tubers were eaten. But dahlias are good for health - they normalize blood sugar levels.

1 tsp is enough chopped-up (dry) root tubers brew 1 tbsp. boiling water and drink 1/4 tbsp. 4 times a day. It is good to add 2-3 dry bean leaves to this drink. The course is a month and a half. If necessary, after a month, treatment can be repeated.
