A resinous influx appeared on the plum bark. Does it harm the tree?

      - A resinous influx on the trunk of stone fruits, including plums, occurs when the cambium (a thin layer of tissue between the bark and wood) is damaged and is called gum disease. This can happen when the tree freezes in winter, peeling off the bark, or even when the plant is massively colonized by aphids.
If the damage is small, the tree itself copes with the disease (resinous secretions prevent infections from penetrating under the bark). For serious injuries, the treatment methods are no different from the treatment of cancer. In early spring, clean the bark to healthy tissues, disinfect the wound with a solution of copper sulfate (10-20 g per 1 liter of water) or ferrous sulfate (50 g per 1 liter of water). Then treat with garden pitch and tie this place with a natural cloth.
