WHAT, WHEN AND HOW TO FEED GARDEN IN JULY MONTH
It is in July that fruit buds begin to be laid, which will become the basis of your harvest next year. Therefore, it is important that the trees do not starve during this period. About what to feed the orchard in the middle of summer, we are talking with the candidate of agricultural sciences, plant breeder phytopathologist Julia Kondratenok.
—For the apple tree and pear, foliar feeding, that is, leaves, is most effective at this time. This is actually targeted food delivery, when the necessary trace elements immediately go where they are most in demand (leaves, ovaries, growing shoots, fruits). When we apply fertilizer to the soil, nutrition will also come, but along the way weeds will take up some part of ourselves, something will remain in the soil itself, and the process itself will take time.
Therefore, I advise you now to spray the crowns with complex mineral fertilizers such as Kemira, Kristalon, Ekolista (according to the instructions). And such treatments should be at least two (in 10-14 days).
Root dressing in July is not relevant?
- No one has canceled fertilizers in the soil. Root dressing is relevant for drugs that are poorly soluble - the same superphosphate. It needs to be embedded in the ground (it dissolves for a long time and slowly gives up its nutrients). If the soil is fertile, then superphosphate is added under digging once every 2-3 years (preferably in the fall).
And in late June - early July, if you can’t do foliar dressing, feed nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium under the root (the trees need them to form the future crop). It is convenient to use ready-made complex fertilizers such as ammofoski or ammofoskamida. But in this case, additionally spray fruiting apples and pears with a solution of calcium nitrate (20 g per 10 liters of water) to prevent bitter dimple.
The last recommendation applies to those summer residents who last year encountered this problem?
- Calcium treatment will not harm any garden. Every year a bitter dimple manifests itself more and more (even on plants of those varieties that were previously resistant to this disease). Calcium as a trace element is needed by plants. In addition, calcium nitrate contains nitrogen, which will benefit fruiting trees.
Amateur gardeners are careful with protective treatments, but many people are sure that it is impossible to overfeed the tree in matters of top dressing ...
“Stick to the middle ground.” Both a deficiency and an excess of nutrition lead to certain violations: the fruits can become worse in taste, will be poorly stored, and the tree will weaken. Too much fertilizer, especially nitrogen, can cause the plant to accumulate nitrates.
And more: overfed trees cannot stop growth in time, and therefore, prepare for winter. And as a result, the plant freezes in the cold. Remember: the end of June to the beginning of July is the deadline for nitrogen application. The nitrogen that is contained in calcium nitrate will in no way affect the overgrowth of the shoots. But to make urea, ammonium nitrate, manure from mid-summer is absolutely impossible! Let your plant be not so huge and burdock, but it will lay down the apical buds in time, its shoots will become lignified, the tree will leave in the normal state in winter, and in the spring it will wake up and begin to grow.
