A couple of years ago, I noticed that the grape clusters began to deteriorate: 2-3 large berries ripened, and the rest remained small and green. There were no visible injuries and diseases, because for prevention, every spring before the start of active growth, I spray all the vines with Bordeaux liquid (300 g per 10 l of water). And then she discovered the cause of the problem.

A neighbor for additional heating and lighting of the chickens in the barn stretched an electrical wire from the house to the annex, and several branches of our grapes braided it. It turned out that the impact of electric current negatively affects the development of the plant and the quality of the crop. I had to cut down one bush altogether, and cut off the rest. Therefore, I advise everyone to watch in which direction the grape vines are crawling and what they can catch on to.

For many years I have been growing grapes of different varieties. At the end of last summer, a neighbor at the dacha complained that his grapes began to crack, although it was too early to harvest. Most often this happens due to a violation of the humidity regime. So we had either prolonged rains or heat. As a result, in a drought, the bunches do not receive the moisture necessary for growth, and during the rainy period, the pulp of the berries becomes watery, so they increase sharply in volume, the skin does not have time to stretch enough and bursts. Such berries should not be left in the bunch, as the juice will drain inside the brush, causing the rest of the fruits to rot. In addition, there is a risk of infection of even small cracks on the shoot with bacteriosis or gray rot. What can you advise?

If 30% of the bunch is damaged, I cut out the diseased berries with scissors. For more damaged grapes, remove the entire brush.
To prevent cracking, I try to maintain constant soil moisture in the period preceding the ripening of the crop. In late summer - early autumn I do not water the vineyard additionally, and if it rains heavily, I mulch the soil under the vines with straw.

The variety is also important. For example, a rather elastic and durable shell of isabelle varieties (Samantha, Flamingo, Timur, Martisor).
