Cherry care for a big harvest - agronomist advice
CHERRY TOMATOES: 7 HARVEST SECRETS
These tomatoes got their name from the English "Cherry" (cherry), since the fruits of this variety of tomatoes rarely exceed 25 g by weight. But thanks to their richer and juicy taste, these fruit crumbs have received well-deserved recognition. Growing cherry tomatoes is not very different from ordinary varieties, but it also has its own characteristics.
1. So that the cherry has enough food and light, do not thicken the planting... Plant 80-
100 cm apart and 80 cm between the rows. This, by the way, will also reduce the risk of late blight infection.
2. When the bush reaches a height of 25-35 cm, tie it up. Tie it up as it grows so that leaves and fruits do not touch the ground. Stepchild in time, and with the formation of fruit brushes, also remove the leaves shading the tomatoes.
3. Water the cherry often, but in moderation.
If there is not enough moisture, the tomatoes may crack. If, on the contrary, there is too much moisture, the fruits will become watery and tasteless.
4. Cherry tomatoes love complex feedingcontaining not only potassium, nitrogen and phosphorus, but also zinc, molybdenum, manganese, iron, cobalt and selenium. Unfortunately, folk remedies cannot provide such a "cocktail", therefore, once every 7-10 days, spray the bushes with a solution of complex fertilizer, which contains these nutrients.
During the period of ovary formation, additionally feed the cherry with a solution of ammonium nitrate (30 g per 10 l of water) or sprinkle 1 tbsp of wet soil around the bush. wood ash.
If you notice that the fruits are developing slowly, and the bush, on the contrary, is actively growing, give up nitrogen fertilizers.
5. Cherry, like no other tomatoes, needs loose soil, so cover the soil with a layer of sawdust, straw 5 cm thick, or loosen the garden bed after each watering.
6 The most dangerous opponent of cherry - phytophthora... Don't wait for the plants to get sick. Spray the fungicides diluted according to the instructions every 7-10 days. Alternate contact (Penncoceb) and systemic (Ridomil Gold) medications.
7. When harvesting, cut the cherry with branches... If not all fruits are ripe, let the branch lie down. Cherry can be stored in a dark, cool room on a branch, and can be frozen for the winter. After defrosting, these tomatoes will be no less tasty and will lose much less useful properties than the fruits of conventional varieties.
