Divide peonies in August - instructions
Dividing peonies: a step-by-step guide
In the first years of her gardening, she planted peonies in the spring, and then wondered why they did not bloom. Now I know that this should be done in the second half of August.
I share peonies from 5-7 years of age. Admittedly, this procedure is quite troublesome.
To begin with, I cut off all the greens from the bush, leaving only hemp of stems 7-10 cm long. Then the leaves do not interfere with the roots to adapt in a new place, do not take away water and food from them.
Then you need to naturally uproot the bush, because it has huge roots. I do this with a pitchfork, with which I loosen the plant as much as possible and turn it to the surface.
I shake off the soil from the rhizome, and wash off the remains with a weak stream of water from a hose. By the way, after this procedure, sick and decayed places are visible (I remove them).
I dry the washed root for a day in the shade.
I proceed to the division. At the base of each stem there is one bud, as well as one root extending from it. I outline the incision sites so that there are at least three such kidneys and a root in the delenki. If you leave 5 buds, there is a high probability that the new bush will bloom next summer. I do everything with a large sharp knife. For disinfection, I dip the strips for 15 minutes in a pale pink solution of potassium permanganate, after which I sprinkle all the cuts with crushed coal.
I plant it in prepared pits (50 × 50 cm), filled with a mixture of humus, garden soil, sand (in equal parts) and a handful of bone meal. I deepen the root collar 2-3 cm from the surface. I definitely water it.

Why are peonies transplanted only in August? The fact is that by the end of summer, their suction roots die off, one rhizome remains, which can be cut into pieces, and the delenki be planted in a new place. And if you do this in spring, the suction roots will break off and the plant will die.

This summer, my peonies finally pleased me with large flowers. And before that, for two seasons in a row, there was not a single bud, despite feeding with universal fertilizers. I was already desperate when the seller at the flower market advised me to treat my fastidious ... ear. She also fed peonies all summer once a week. The result this season is a lush bloom.
Now I do not throw away fish waste (scales, bones, skin, fins), but collect and then boil it. After cooling down, I water the plants with this ear (1-2 times a month), thus supplying them with potassium and phosphorus. If the broth turns out to be highly concentrated, I dilute it with water (by eye).
